Does this need an antibiotic?

My DS has a small I just. I'm concerned with the red snaking up his arm that red bit around what looks like a splinter entry has grown this last hour since bath time. Doesn't seem to have anything in it. Doctors tomorrow or any tips I could try? Thank you

Does he have a splinter? If so, soak it in Epsom salts for a few mins and it should draw it out.

MrsPerfect12 · 13/01/2022 21:30

I don't think anything is there but an entry point is visible - he doesn't know how it happened.
It was a little yellow pus blister before bath. But the bath has burst/removed it.

I'd draw round it and mark that track. If it tracks any further I think you need to see someone sooner rather than later.

Soaking in saltwater is a good call above.

I'd get that looked at, better safe than sorry.

I had a spider bite that looked like that. I’d draw a line around it and seek medical advice in the morning and also take anti histimine. I ended up in hospital on a drip but I take bad reactions to most bites, it would be best to seek medical advice especially if it’s tracking.

It's tracking up his a, get him seem
ASAP

elelel · 13/01/2022 21:38

His arm,

MrsPerfect12 · 13/01/2022 21:40

I've drawn round it and marked the end of the track so far. DH is away to get detol (his idea) I'll do a soak in salt water and check again in an hour.

I'll phone the docs in the morning for sure but hopefully it's no worse tonight.

That's tracking badly already, and needs seeing urgently this evening. Don't wait until tomorrow - tracking needs to be taken really seriously. Don't daff around - phone 111, but get antibiotics into him this evening. Any fever or other signs of sepsis, straight to A and E (you may need A and E this evening to get seen anyway). Don't leave it until tomorrow.

Houseofvelour · 13/01/2022 21:40

Do not wait until tomorrow. Tracking can very quickly turn into sepsis.

I wouldn’t wait until morning tbh nor use dettol on it. Speaking from experience that may need antibiotics.

I had understood a red line travelling upwards was extremely bad news requiring immediate medical attention. Please check with a medical professional.

MrsPerfect12 · 13/01/2022 21:43

I'm on hold to 111

You understood correctly. Hopefully OP will take our warnings seriously. I had an infection in my foot that started tracking and I was very unwell because of it within a matter of hours.

Just read this! I'm so pleased. I hope he'll be on antibiotics within the next couple of hours 🤞

Good, be very clear with them about the tracking. Don't underplay it
JanuaryBluehoo · 13/01/2022 22:07

Out of interest how can people see its "tracking"?

elelel · 13/01/2022 22:12

The red line going up the arm

MrsPerfect12 · 13/01/2022 22:14

On our way to A&E.

Good luck OP Thanks

Tatapie · 13/01/2022 22:22

Wow, I had no idea about tracking. Glad you're en route to help OP Thanks

MioneAnna · 13/01/2022 22:25

Good luck op. Well done for taking some sound advice on this.

MrsPerfect12 · 13/01/2022 23:32

We're getting antib's, they're deciding if it needs to be IV or oral and the doc is awaiting discussion with a senior. They're away to do bloods so not sure how DS will be with that. We were seen pretty quick thankfully.

That's great op.
I Can't believe how many people mn has sent to a and e this week!. I wouldn't even know about tracking without mn.
Hope he is OK.
