I hate my body shape. It makes buying clothes so difficult, and I always look huge Sad

Are there any other pear shapes here? How do you dress to minimise the hips?

Ah I don't buy second hand clothes any more because of the smell issue. I'm talking about "vintage reproduction" which is modern-day clothes made in a vintage style. Collectif, Hell Bunny, anything found on topvintage.net.

Not any more (thanks DS!), but I used to have a 24 inch waist and 40 inch hips. Basically a big bum and cyclist’s thighs. BMI 20, so not at all fat, just out of proportion. During the “waif” period as well, so fashionable clothes of the time looked appalling on me.

You just have to embrace it, if you wear baggy things you just look massive, when you aren’t.

@3boyshere

Could anyone tell me what shape I am please as I struggle buying clothes that suit me
You look like a rectangle to me with slim legs, Letitia Dean has that shape, she tends to wear loose longer line tops and skinny jeans or pencil skirts, she dresses very well for her shape.

I am an hourglass and also struggle with a lot of contemporary tailoring. I absolutely love everything on the homepage of this website. But is there anywhere in the UK we can order these brands from? It’s become a bit hit and miss ordering from the EU since brexshit.
MaybeHeIsMyCat · 13/01/2022 00:42

@GirlOnPfizer most of the brands have their own U.K. sites
I love collectif, and also lady v (their Elsie dress fits like a dream)

Goodness me! what a fantastic figure .

  • I wouldn't be trying to minimise hips! I would be wearing very fitted clothes to show that waist off. Don't hide it. If you have narrow shoulders, cap sleeves will make you look wider or a slash neck or halter neck.
tectonicplates · 13/01/2022 01:02

@GirlOnPfizer Just Google whichever brand appeals to you and see if you can buy it somewhere else. Some of them you can buy in the UK, some of them you can't. Sorry I don't know of a quicker, more instant way of finding out, but it's just a case of googling each brand, I'm afraid. Top Vintage have always given really excellent service, although I must admit I haven't bought anything from them since Brexit happened.

Fashion is for baggy shapeless clothes, avoid those!!

Also leggings and skinny jeans, not great.

Wide leg jeans are coming into fashion. Also boot cuts. I felt very bold wearing wide leg jeans again. So comfy. Definitely more flattering for the wide of hip.

You have a lovely figure though, it's just unfortunate that modern fashion isn't as flattering as vintage fashion was

GirlOnPfizer · 13/01/2022 17:03

MaybeHeIsMyCat, tectonicplates, Thanks, both, I've fallen down a Google rabbit hole of replica vintage clothing. My savings account is not going to be happy.

And OP, I totally agree with everyone saying that you have a lovely figure. But I also agree with you that that doesn't always translate into finding clothes that fit properly/ are flattering.
