I hate my body shape. It makes buying clothes so difficult, and I always look huge Sad

Are there any other pear shapes here? How do you dress to minimise the hips?

Yep, me. I wear size 10 tops and size 16 skirts. I don't know why people see it as so odd as it really isn't - millions of women are pear-shaped. I buy most of my clothes from Collectif and other vintage-style companies as the hip to waist ratio is right for my shape. I've practically given up on the high street. Don't worry if you don't like vintage style specifically - they also make plenty of plain clothes and work-appropriate stuff.

Me!

WonderfulYou · 12/01/2022 22:10

I feel curvalicious and have really made friends with my body rather than fighting to be a shape I'm not.

Love this!!

I think many of us fight to be a shape we’re not instead of just embracing our natural selves.

Flared dresses are your friend.

It's fine to say that, but when you go clothes shopping and nothing fits then it's not so easy to say that. Vintage-style has completely transformed my life, now that I finally get to buy clothes that actually fit. But high street shops just aren't interested.

Lotusmonster · 12/01/2022 22:15

Wow. You have a very sexy shape. You’re lucky!

WakingFromDreams · 12/01/2022 22:21

If I had hips like those I'd be embracing big time! Bet you look fab in a pencil skirt! I'd love those hips.
My wife tells me I have the hips of an 8 year old boy!
Trinny Woodall has videos on YouTube showing what to wear with different body shapes so those could be worth a watch.

WhenwillIlearntoadult · 12/01/2022 22:21

Your figure is lovely! A work colleague has a similar figure and she wears clothes that accentuate her tiny waist. She always looks lovely. Popsy do lots of different styles that flatter all shapes.

Surmeslevres · 12/01/2022 22:22

I don't have any useful advice regarding clothing but I felt inspired to post just to say you are a lovely shape.

Staffy1 · 12/01/2022 22:30

@RobertSmithsLipstick

I'd love to be your shape! It's very womanly. I'm spacehopper shaped. Sad
Grin me too, will have to use that description in future.
hivemindneeded · 12/01/2022 22:32

That's not what I call pear shaped. That's slim hourglass - the sexiest most desirable shape. If I had that shape I'd probably wear bodycon dresses.

Helenahandkart · 12/01/2022 22:33

I have a similar hip/waist ratio as you - plus a completely flat chest. It’s so hard to find clothes that fit, let alone flatter. I’m a size 10/12 on top, and size 18/20 bottom.
My go-to’s are skater style, fit and flare dresses to make the most of my waist. Cropped jumpers/jackets, definitely nothing that ends at my hips.
A-line skirts. Epaulettes/slightly puffed sleeves for balance.
The best thing I ever did was learn basic sewing and pattern cutting. I mastered a couple of easy dress patterns that fitted perfectly. A 50s silhouette is a good start, though obviously not the most fashionable choice at the moment.

BookFiend4Life · 12/01/2022 22:33

Pear shape is so in right now! High waisted trousers with fitted tops tucked in, bodycon dresses (especially if you have booty), midi skirts that start at your natural waist, overalls, matching lounge sets. The world is your oyster!

whatshouldIdoo · 12/01/2022 22:34

As a slimmish apple I truly envy your shape. Beautifully feminine, lovely waist line and flat belly.
Embrace it, you look marvellous

tectonicplates · 12/01/2022 22:38

You know what's so frustrating though, is the number of people on this thread saying what a fabulous shape, yet nothing fits. If our shape is so fabulous, then why don't clothes shops make anything that fits us? It's not about being "so in right now", it's just about our natural shape. That's why I buy from vintage-style shops (not actual vintage), because the high street acts like we don't even exist. It's actually quite tiresome being told how fabulous we are - yes, but where are we supposed to buy clothes?

Totaldick · 12/01/2022 22:42

Dress as you are in the pic. You look fit! Hip envy!

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 12/01/2022 22:44

Don’t bulk up/hide anything, you look stunning.

Have a look at Manners London, ideal clothing for your shape

something2say · 12/01/2022 22:47

I think, why not try a bodycon dress? Tight at the waist, tight at the knee, skims over the hips? Lovely shape, in, out, in again. High heels and lipstick x

EishetChayil · 12/01/2022 22:50

I have this body shape. I have learned to love it, generally.

I wear a lot of loose dresses, which might not be your style.

Helenahandkart · 12/01/2022 22:54

No no NO to bodycon (in my experience anyway)

@3boyshere no expert but I think you are more “Apple” shaped with a bit of a tummy, but nice slim legs. I bet you have slim arms and a neat bum too. My friend who’s a similar shape looks great in skinny jeans with loose tops, and also shift type dresses.

immigrant002 · 12/01/2022 23:37

You have a lovely figure and pear shaped is very "in" right now !

Lucia23 · 13/01/2022 00:10

I have a similar shape. I tend to wear flared dresses as a PP mentioned. Usually the type with a belt around the waist.

I also tend to wear skirts which cinch in at the waist.

And yes to what @tectonicplates said. I've been so uninspired for years by high street shops. So I also tend to go vintage, but it can be a challenge to get the second hand smell out sometimes, usually with jackets.
