What lovely holidays do you have planned over the coming year?

I am really looking forward to going home (I live abroad) for a few weeks in the summertime. We did this last year and it was brilliant. My mum has cancer, and it's really important that we get home if at all possible.

I'd like to get a beach weekend local to us here as well, if possible, to escape the baking heat but we will have to see!

Keeping fingers crossed the pandemic won't come back with another variant and gather speed over summer/ autumn this year, and that people can travel and holiday and spend time with loved ones - where are you planning to go?

Have you booked anything?

@chessycurls

How come people have booked so many things so far in advance? especially with a pandemic thats fucked up so many things. I've got 2 holidays outstanding that have been moved about 4 times since 2020, that put me off booking anything abroad in the last 2 yrs.

Strange isn't it? I would say it was risky booking just one holiday abroad at the moment but 6,7,8? Hmmm Hmm

Oblomov22 · 12/01/2022 06:10

Most are lies?

Mine aren't. We are going to our caravan in Dorset 3 times hopefully, both May bank holidays and august, like normal. Dh and I are also going to Butlins Bognor for a soul long weekend and leaving 2 x teen ds's at home, that we booked with our Tesco club card points. We know how to live! Wink

I would normally go to Lisbon or Krakow with my 2 friends for a long weekend, but we are going to Dorset instead, so we can save money for a bigger holiday because we are all 50 the following year.

garlictwist · 12/01/2022 06:36

Nothing at the mo but I have booked a week off work in May. I will just wait until nearer the time, see where the weather looks decent and go there. I don't really like booking stuff miles in advance.

I'd also like to go to Tenerife at Christmas but will worry about that nearer the time too!

NotTheGrinchAgain · 12/01/2022 06:49

Oh yes lots planned this year!

First, a week in France at May half term, a holiday that has rolled over for two years due to covid! My little boy would have been a baby when we booked it but now he is walking, talking and has dropped his nap. My mum was due to come with us, but covid stopped the holiday. She died in October and we miss her so much.

Then we have two weeks booked to see family in the Mediterranean in the summer , and a week to visit my brother in Germany also. We haven't seen my brother since 6 months before covid lockdown - he lost his job in the pandemic and cannot afford to travel to us and wasnt allowed to travel for our mum's funeral due to his ex-wife being a bitch about their kids missing school due to the self-immolation needed after the trip.
I'm excited i will see my nephews and cousins in 2022 - the eldest nephew is now taller than me! They met their baby cousin once, it will be a shock for them to meet a little boy who can talk and play. I think there will be a lot of tears (me) and a lot of laughter (the kids).

It almost seems unreal, I can't quite believe we will be allowed to travel.

We plan to spend lots of time with MIL and FiL too - haven't decided what to do yet!

Roll on 2022, I've missed my family and normal life so much.

NotTheGrinchAgain · 12/01/2022 06:51

Self -solation not self-immolation! Both very painful experiences in their own way.

MinnieMountain · 12/01/2022 06:52

DH is taking DS skiing at Easter.
MIL’s 70th family holiday in the Lake District in May.
I’m swimming in Slovenia in July- was supposed to go 2 years ago.
A week in Norfolk in July.
A week in Saas-Fee in August.
I’m going to Vienna in September.
DH is surfing in Cornwall in September.
We’re also considering going back to Saas-Fee after Christmas as I have compulsory time off then.

User6397254 · 12/01/2022 06:59

Just some breaks in England in our caravan this year, similar to last year.

York in March
Kent in May
Peak District in June
Cotswolds in September
Probably Cornwall in early October and will book some last minute, we are retired so avoid the school holidays.

No overseas holidays this year again as rules keep changing all the while and it's a lot of bother

Maireas · 12/01/2022 07:41

@funji

Wowsers, some big carbon footprints ok this thread!
I was thinking the same. 6/7 exotic holidays in one year, many long haul.
Maireas · 12/01/2022 07:45

@L0uby1

London for a few days in February Dublin at easter Greece in May Turkey in June Spain in August Krakow in September Eurostar trip in late october/ November to Bruges or lile. Weekends away in our camper when the weather is good.
Wow! Seven holidays, plus weekends away. When do you get time to wash your smalls?!
ontana · 12/01/2022 08:16

We have

Northumberland in Feb
Mull at Easter
Fishing in Scotland in May

Nothing yet for summer but hoping for

Norfolk
A camping trip

London in October

I would also like to get in a couple of weekends away to York and Edinburgh

BarbaraofSeville · 12/01/2022 08:49

@funji

Wowsers, some big carbon footprints ok this thread!
It's OK, we're child free. We could fly to New York several times a year and our carbon footprint would be a drop in the ocean compared with people who have even one DC.

We're hoping to go to Madeira in the spring, and Menorca in September and will probably have a couple of UK short breaks in June or October.

As for affordability, abroad at the times of year we travel can cost a lot less than a typical 'cottage in Cornwall' type holiday in the school holidays, plus we generally book later and just see where the flights are cheapest of the places we want to go. So Madeira is currently looking cheap in March - May, except Easter of course, it's a good time of year to go there, but if the prices were high, we'd think of doing something else instead and look at that option again later.

funji · 12/01/2022 08:57

It's OK, we're child free.

Not everyone is though!

CMOTDibbler · 12/01/2022 09:02

We'd planned to do a really big holiday this year to celebrate big birthdays and landmark wedding anniversary. But just can't face the stress of will it/won't it. So have booked a lovely cottage in Norfolk in the summer and that will have to do this year plus some camping

blobby10 · 12/01/2022 09:12

Wow! So many people booking multiple holidays - how on earth do you pay for it? I've got 9 days camping in Cornwall booked in June costing £250 plus food and fuel. It will be my first break from work (except for compulsory shut down at Christmas) of more than 2 days since October 2019 and I'm really looking forward to it. Not sure who is coming with me yet but would be totally happy to go on my own (provided I can find someone willing to help me put the awning up!)

user5656555 · 12/01/2022 09:17

Greece and Canada. We prioritise holidays over almost everything except mortgage. To me it's what life is all about. No guilt about carbon footprint, not even going to pretend it crosses my mind 🤷‍♀️

SummerHouse · 12/01/2022 09:17

I will come with you blobby it sounds bloody awesome.

We have a week in Whitby in August. That's it. And I wouldn't swap it for anywhere in the world. I can't wait! Planning what to do is my mind's screensaver.

EvenLess07 · 12/01/2022 10:27

Nothing booked yet, but hoping for:

A couple of weekends in Yorkshire to see friends
Couple of nights throughout the year away from DD to go to shows we have tickets for

Greece- keeping all my fingers crossed for this one, probably in May/June. DF terminally ill so this would likely be our last big family holiday together, to a place very special to our family. Hope we can make this happen. Toddler DD hasn't been abroad yet and I'd love her to have one holiday with her grandad 😢

Finances depending, a cheap week on the south coast or Center Parcs

Refrosty · 12/01/2022 10:36

Paris and Orlando/Miami. Both are rebooked 2020 holidays, can't wait!

gwenneh · 12/01/2022 11:08

Most of my holiday time is going on attending weddings. One set of friends is getting married in the US in April, another set is doing a destination wedding in St. Lucia later in the year. So those are the two definites that are booked.

DH would quite like to do Christmas in Australia with family but I'm not sure I can cope with the flight and a toddler AND covid, so we're playing that one a bit more by ear.

GettingStuffed · 12/01/2022 12:08

A week in Bolton. Not a misspell for Boston, Bolton as in the place I caught covid.

TinaYouFatLard · 12/01/2022 12:33

Florida at Easter and the same in the summer! I’m already counting down the days.

Mydogisagentleman · 12/01/2022 13:03

We bought a flat in Spain last year and completed just before Xmas.
We will be going for 6 days in March.
Can’t bloody wait

Eaglesqueak · 12/01/2022 13:16

We’ve had our first holiday this year - South Australia for Christmas, and I’m off to WA next month if the border opens, as promised.
I’ll have two trips to the UK to see family and friends (I can’t wait - it’s been a very long two years) with side trips from there to Spain and possibly Morocco for long weekends.
I like the idea of going by train to Spain. We’ve done that before and I loved it - so much more relaxing than airports.
We’re lucky to have family and friends living all over the place, so generally don’t have to pay for accommodation, which is the reason I/we can travel so often.
We may do a big family trip with adult DDs later in the year, Covid allowing. Maybe Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia… but haven’t organised anything yet - it’s all still too uncertain.

GiantKitten · 12/01/2022 13:23

A week in Dartmouth mid-May, just me & DH (we’re oooold and retired)

And a week in Llandudno in Sept, with almost whole family, for his 70th. (One DD can’t get that time off)

We’d like a trip abroad some time, haven’t been for 3 years, but I’ve recently started treatment for a serious medical condition and have discovered travel insurance could cost £2-3k Shock
That’s just from an online quote; I’m hoping if I ring them the amount of medical cover can be negotiated down a bit. Nobody needs £10m for 2 weeks in Spain, even after Brexit, do they? Confused

PattyPan · 12/01/2022 14:06

Weekend in a B&B in Dorset in August
And just booked 10 days in the USA (Grand Canyon and surrounding areas) in May last night. Really excited! We only had to pay taxes for the flights as I had so many points built up from my credit card.
We’ll probably do a U.K. camping trip with some friends as well.

To manage my carbon footprint I don’t fly more than once a year and don’t fly to mainland Europe (train instead). Also I don’t have a car, don’t eat meat/dairy, don’t have DC, use very little energy, pay for carbon capture & storage, etc etc.
