I saw a meme shared by a friend on fb last year and it made me rethink SO much!
It was the one about Mh and the dishwasher (I don't have a dishwasher but not the point) where it the therapist in the narrative said to the person with depression "if you need to run the dishwasher twice...run it twice"
I have mental illness and a disability and I was struggling on as I thought I was "supposed" to by trying to be the same as "normal" people and I was making my life harder than it needed to be!
After reading that and a chat with my own therapist I did the following :
Bought "extra" kitchen utensils - I drop stuff frequently and I also can't always manage doing the dishes regularly so this means I always have the utensils I need
Bought disability aids - I was resisting this as a form of denial really but it was stupid! I now have a ring pull opener, bottle/can opener, and various grippers and grabbers that help.
Also bought a cordless stick vacuum which is much easier to use (had a standard upright previously and felt it was profligate to buy another "just" because I was finding that one hard to use)
@FiveGs - it's taken me FAR too long to "learn" or more accurately accept that what my mother always said about "never leave a room empty handed" and "clean and tidy as you go" is true!
Especially true of spills!
Learned a long time ago but happy to pass it on and a pp has also said - having a wardrobe with colours and styles that all go together! I have neutrals and 2 other colours I wear and it makes it so much easier to put outfits together. Also I would say embrace dresses! An outfit done in one go!
Echo dots - felt like an extravagance at the time but bought in Black Friday. Now have 2!
My memory is dreadful and I also seem to come up with my best ideas when I'm up to me elbows in suds or muck! So I can tell Alexa to remind me about those ideas at a time when I can do something about them. I also like being able to check the time when I'm up to elbows and not wearing a watch/don't have phone on me. Mostly play radio or streaming through them my hearing isn't great now so this means bit louder for me. Sadly what mine seem NOT to do is that fun thing of answering random questions!
Using Alexa for adding things to my shopping list - exactly! Which is usually something I realise while cooking of course. I don't yet really trust it to add to my online order (it's Tesco I don't trust really not Alexa) so I just do as a reminder as I keep a running memo shopping list on my phone. I have my regular items I order every week but for irregularly ordered items I note to "add" these on the memo and sometimes I acquire a glut of longer life items - eg tinned stuff, kitchen roll - I note to NOT order these in the memo
Very happy to receive tips on how to use them even more efficiently. Not suitable for current home but hoping to move this year and when I do I think I'm prob gonna get some smart home bulbs/plugs etc which will also make my life easier.
Long charger cables
I see these are fairly common now as even primark does them but when I got mine as recommended on a similar thread a few years back they were quite a new thing - multi USB port plug adapter! So much easier than faffing with extension leads and bulkier normal plug adapters
Again a recommendation from here - adjustable headlamp! Which I use for cross stitch but has also proven super handy in power cuts! USB rechargeable and angled with different light settings. Intended for cyclists etc but very useful in the house!
