Wind chimes - yay or nay

SalsaLove · 11/01/2022 07:26

I personally love the sound of wind chimes in a gentle breeze. However, I live in row a terraced houses with long narrow back gardens that converge. I do wonder if I would forever be known as “fecking wind chime lady” if I hang up my new chimes.

Sorry OP, once had a neighbour who had one. Drove me nuts.

FindingMeno · 11/01/2022 07:40

Love them!

AuntieStella · 11/01/2022 07:41

Never within earshot of neighbours.

RampantIvy · 11/01/2022 07:42

Yes, you will. Our neighbours opposite have some, and they drive us round the bend.

Yamaya · 11/01/2022 07:42

I love them too but not sure about most people. Are you friendly with neighbours? Could you ask them?

lollipoprainbow · 11/01/2022 07:44

No they give me the creeps !!

Agadorsparticus · 11/01/2022 07:45

It's a no from me unless you live in a hippie commune.

NowEvenBetter · 11/01/2022 07:45

Really rude to inflict 24/7 repetitive noise on all your neighbours, if you’re into that noise, put them in your house on a door.

Bemorebridget · 11/01/2022 07:46

I think you might be called worse names than that OP 😂
I would put up with them if you were my neighbour because I generally leave people alone, but it would drive me insane.

ItsSnowJokes · 11/01/2022 07:46

Nope. Anti social bastards they are.

CamomileTeabag · 11/01/2022 07:47

Yes, deeply unfair on your neighbours. Please don't do it. The noise is pretty, but not 24hours a day, 365 days a year.

Anotherhill · 11/01/2022 07:47

No, don’t do it

CheshireCats · 11/01/2022 07:48

I absolutely hate them. Intrusive noise inflicted on your neighbours.

SalsaLove · 11/01/2022 07:48

These are proper bronze chimes. The picture on the box is of hills and a lake - think Sound of Music in summer. Perhaps an indication that they are more appreciated in the middle of nowhere?

OP posts:
RoseAndRose · 11/01/2022 07:52

They would be appreciated only by someone who likes them, on their own property, fully out of earshot is all others.

They have no place whatsoever out in the wild - unless you actually own that bit of it.

NowEvenBetter · 11/01/2022 07:52

Obviously. Why do you need to ask?

SalsaLove · 11/01/2022 08:01

I’m asking because I like them very much but I had a hunch that others might have a different opinion. If my neighbour had wind chimes they wouldn’t bother me.

RunningInTheWind · 11/01/2022 08:04

I love them and wouldn’t mind if neighbours had them - but I know they really irritate most.

icelollycraving · 11/01/2022 08:06

No. They are bloody irritating. I live next to someone who has them dotted around the garden. Irritating as hell.

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 11/01/2022 08:07

Cheap tacky windchimes - no.
Proper tone metal windchimes tuned correctly - brilliant, and get no neighbour complaints 😁

HasaDigaEebowai · 11/01/2022 08:07

It’s a really selfish thing to do in a built up area

Roselilly36 · 11/01/2022 08:08

No, bloody annoying.

Hippopotas · 11/01/2022 08:08

No I thought I loved them but our neighbour had them and as our bedroom was at the back they were a nuisance at night.

VitalsStable · 11/01/2022 08:10

I'd be over the fence with a pair of scissors cutting the bloody chimes off. It's rude and inconsiderate to expect your neighbours to listen to the sound of something because you enjoy it. Download a wind chime soundtrack and listen to it through earphones.

Fallible · 11/01/2022 08:10

God no, I really don't like them and would have to go round and beg you to take them down if you were my neighbour.
