Had a fall.

Fell of my horse yesterday. All my weight when I fell pretty much went on right leg/hip area and then my head was the last thing to hit the ground. I am pretty sore today but my leg is getting worse. I can walk (although sore) but I can not lift my leg high at all. Even to get in and out the car I’m literally lifting my leg with my arms otherwise the pain is awful. Tried lifting my leg to get into my wellies after work and was nearly in tears! It obviously can’t be broken if I can walk on it (can it?) but has anyone got any tips to help with the pain apart from the obvious. Would going hospital be a bit OTT? Not really sure why I’m posting but god I am in pain!!!

Even if you can walk! You really need to be checked out. Hope you're much better very soon.

DramaAlpaca · 10/01/2022 22:10

I had a similar riding accident some years ago, but yours sounds worse. I didn't get checked out and I regret it as I still have some discomfort in my left hip.

Get yourself looked at Flowers

MushMonster · 10/01/2022 22:11

Call out of hours. I reckon they will send you to minor injuries/ accidents

NewYearCalavicci · 10/01/2022 22:13

Without wishing to worry you at all I walked on a badly fractured leg after coming off my motorbike I thought I'd just bruised it
Get yourself to the hospital otherwise you could end up with a miss aligned healing bone

jalopy · 10/01/2022 22:14

You may have cracked your hip. Definitely get it checked out. That level of pain following the accident is a worry.

madisonbridges · 10/01/2022 22:16

When I was young, 50 years ago, my next door neighbour (17yo) hurt his leg playing football. His mum kept telling him to stop moaning. He was still going to school every day but eventually, 2 days later, took him to the hospital. His leg was broken / maybe fractured. It was a long time ago. No mollycoddling in those days!

2DogsOnMySofa · 10/01/2022 22:17

My dh fell off a horse and landed square on a pole that was on the floor, with his thigh taking the brunt of it. He struggled to walk so I sent him to A&E, he had an X-ray, nothing broken but I've never seen a bruise quite so impressive before. The hospital did give him some amazing pain killers which meant he could still function. It was worth the visit for those alone

ParisNext · 10/01/2022 22:21

I also fell from a horse 15 years ago with identical injuries- I was on a week long ride out and didn’t get it looked at. I now know it was a cracked illo sacral joint (sp?) and it has plagued me for years as it “goes” again but worse each time. Now use a stick about twice a year, always carry a folding one on my bag and am fearful of the dreadful pain and it’s really affected me long term. Please don’t dismiss it. Good luck.

Sarahlou63 · 10/01/2022 22:23

Did something very similar many years ago, horse slipped, I went smack down on the length of one side - hairline hip fracture and bruised from armpit to knee. Get x-rayed and rest as much as you can.

SquidGame · 10/01/2022 22:27

Please get checked. I walked for a few days with a hairline fracture which got so much worse. Best to get checked just in case, especially if it causing that much pain and limiting movement

TwinkleToeMatilda · 10/01/2022 22:29

Thanks everyone. I guess because I can walk on it i would feel silly going but then being in agony to even lift my leg into the car can’t be right. My partner is saying it’s muscle but I don’t know! Resting isn’t an option either with a dog and a horse and a job which requires me walking up stairs with no lift haha!

Similar here. Much better to get checked out. A bad heal causes so much further anguish. Hope you are ok OP

That sounds like a hip fracture to me!

CassieJumped · 10/01/2022 22:48

My husbands Nan 'walked' around on a broken hip for three weeks.

Cocopogo · 10/01/2022 22:48

Yes even if you can walk on it unfortunately it might be fractured

Christmas202 · 10/01/2022 22:49

Get yourself a bottle of golden emu oil.it’s a brilliant healer.

RampantIvy · 10/01/2022 22:50

My partner is saying it’s muscle but I don’t know!

Is your partner a doctor?
You won't know unless you get it x-rayed. I can understand you not wanting to spend hours in A and E, but you really do need to get it checked out.

BeMoreGoldfish · 10/01/2022 22:52

Definitely get it checked!

missmarplesapprentice · 10/01/2022 22:57

You definitely need to get it checked. I came off my horse and landed on my shoulder. I waited 3 days before going to a & e (after minor injuries said they couldn’t help). I thought because I could move and raise my arm that it was just muscle even though I was in pain. Turns out it was a broken collar bone.
Hopefully the doctor can make a good assessment. I imagine they will X-ray it. The doctor I saw wasn’t sure mine was broken but said because it was a high impact fall she wanted to be sure. Hope you’re alright.

Apocalyptichorsewoman · 10/01/2022 23:01

Get it checked!

I came off my horse 4 months ago, and landed badly. Of course I got back on 🙄 When I got home, I started vomming and pissing blood. Went to A&E, and found out I had concussion and had fractured 4 vertebrae - L1-L4 ( transverse processes though - not vertebral bodies)
It's worth getting it sorted.

amusedbush · 10/01/2022 23:25

I'm another one who walked around on a fracture for weeks - it was my ankle. That was five years ago and, honestly, it has never been the same again. It still aches when the weather is bad (that's my party trick - I can tell when it's going to rain Grin) and sometimes it just "goes" when I'm walking down stairs.

Definitely get it seen asap.
