Another Bloody Downing Street party

JustJam4Tea · 10/01/2022 21:51

So hours after telling us to only meet one other person outside from a different household 100 invited to Downing Street BYO in the garden.

It was unlawful to mix outside. If my employer had invited 100 staff to a garden party we’d have all been arrested.

Argh I meant condem not condone, thanks jgw1

Player067 · 12/01/2022 09:17

The emerging line appears to be: there was a party, it was arranged by Reynolds and was his fault (blame the civil servants/move Reynolds to a new position), BJ and Carrie live at no. 10 and were entitled to use their garden, nobody is allowed to talk about any of this because Sue Gray is investigating.

portaghost · 12/01/2022 09:18

Why were they not scared? They scared us all into not hugging our loved ones, I was not scared of getting covid but scared of passing it on to my parents. Did none of them have elderly relatives? It's so confusing.

They disgust me.

OhWhyNot · 12/01/2022 09:20

I’m sure with in the pr spin will be how Boris too knows what it’s like to be scared in hospital

This fascinates me too. We do know a majority of invitees didn't take up the offer though.
OhWhyNot · 12/01/2022 09:34

Not defending the party at all

But if you carried in working as much as normal (not from home) I think this fear wasn’t there in the same way as you had to confront it. After a few weeks I don’t think anything of going into work/supermarket

They simply should not have had the party but I think the working together is how this shall be explained away

ancientgran · 12/01/2022 09:39

@BitcherOfBlakiven

At every point in time when we’ve voted, I’ve been rather… Loud about my opinions on the Tories and those who vote for them.

I didn’t want to be right.

But I am.

We’re all fucked and I’m starting to think that ExDH, who’s a Prepper and slightly bonkers, might have a valid point.

Where’s the wine…

I feel much the same but I'm teetotal. I don't think a bar of Dairy Milk is going to cut it. Any recommendations for a drink that someone who doesn't like alcohol might tolerate? I suppose I just need to view it as medicine and hold my nose.
setthecontrols · 12/01/2022 09:40

Surely Labour have a better chance of winning the next election with Johnson in post...

It was their garden but you weren't allowed to be in your garden with a group of people were you. I know they will squirm and twist but they shouldn't get away with it.

Reminder

For those unacquainted with the role of Principal Private Secretary, this is the civil servant with the closest working relationship with a Minister. No PPS would arrange a party without being asked to by their Minister or without their Minister’s knowledge.

OhWhyNot · 12/01/2022 09:52

We know Johnson new but we know he will lie about it and I am willing to bet Reynolds will take the blame and lie too (he will have a nice job lined up already)

Player067 · 12/01/2022 09:55

Oh I completely agree ancientgran they should not get away with it but the "entitled to use their garden" line has been floated a few times now...

Separately, why should the question of whether laws were broken depend on Sue Gray rather than the police? If I was suspected of breaking the law I wouldn't be allowed to fend off a police investigation by appointing my own independent investigator. But of course, the Met must have been well aware of the parties - see Fabricant's idiotic intervention yesterday emphasising the presence of police at No 10 throughout!

This point, I think, is the death knell to further restrictions.
Hearwego · 12/01/2022 10:33

**Get used to such totally avoidable high numbers of death and disability being reported as "low stable" and "coming out of the pandemic". Oh and of course the biggie - "living lots of Other People dying or being disabled with it"

What’s the alternative? We can’t furlough people and lockdown people continuously. Whoever is in government has to live with covid being around for the long term.

AllThePogs · 12/01/2022 10:35

We could have mitigations like other countries are.
This refusal to think we could do anything to reduce deaths is a fatalistic one.
Oh a new plague that kills elderly and disabled people...there is nothing we can do.
Oh other countries are doing things to reduce their deaths...well doesn't apply to us because of reasons.
People are dying needlessly. I do think history will judge this period in England very harshly.

Hearwego · 12/01/2022 10:36

Why do these things ‘leak ‘ so long after the events? Does the media keep this information to themselves and then break the story when it suits them?
I would never like to see a lockdown ever again, of course the Tories have lost any credibility when it comes to ever trying to impose another lockdown.

At times they need enough evidence but I think often it’s their driven agenda. This will have been known about for a long. An email sent to so many senior people and everyone keeping it secret Hmm

I very much doubt anyone in the media has sat on this for so long. Especially as the one before Christmas was in the Guardian, who'd have no political incentive at all to keep it quiet. There were rumours in December that some of the papers knew who was at the Dec 2020 party but were keeping it quiet, no idea if that's true though.

My guess is, it's a person or faction within Johnson's party who want him out and/or are against further covid related restrictions.

Hearwego · 12/01/2022 11:01

The Tories have a habit of ‘getting rid ‘ of their leaders once they’ve had enough.
It happened to Thatcher and Major. And May too.

They do, and it's evident some of them have their knives out now too. Quite understandably.
BitcherOfBlakiven · 12/01/2022 11:11

I don’t drink either, but they’re bloody making me want to!

I had a Maccies breakfast this morning, it’s sort of hit the spot.

Notonthestairs · 12/01/2022 11:12

I'm Sunak is very sad to be missing PMQ's today.

Notonthestairs · 12/01/2022 11:12

That should be I'm sure...

I'm not Rishi Grin

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2022 11:22

It's not getting better for the government today

BREAKING: The Government's use of a so-called VIP lane to award contracts for the supply of personal protective equipment #PPE to two companies during the first wave of the #Covid19 pandemic was unlawful, the High Court has ruled.

DuncinToffee · 12/01/2022 11:23

What's Sunak's excuse?
