Would you recommend a Henry vacuum cleaner?

Are Henry's any good?

What are the different types? I have seen a Hetty and a Harry cleaner. Are these the same?

Is the suction adjustable? Would you recommend getting one?

My house is small with furniture that I need to get under, so don't want anything too big. I have a shark and I can't be doing with it anymore am just going to use it for the car.

I've just got a Hetty and it's brilliant. Just the same as a Henry, but pink and cuter! Excellent suction and deals with my shed long hair easily (tmi maybe). There's a reason cleaners in offoces and hotels use them. I think they come in different sizes, mine is quite small but you can get bigger ones.

Kshhuxnxk · 09/01/2022 21:43

My cleaners use them and won't go past them.

Yes, but he can be a dickhead getting caught & tangled on his cord and flinging himself down on his side dramatically like a Disney Princess on occasion. He’s heavy on the stairs.
But he’s a great hoover.

This is brilliant and exactly true. It's the way he lies there on his side still smiling at you Grin

I had a Henry years ago then went through a few cordless ones that were rubbish, went back to a Henry.

Honeyroar · 09/01/2022 21:45

Yes I love Henry, copes brilliantly with our hoardes of pets. But he’s quite a chunky, heavy chap.

Matterti · 09/01/2022 21:45

I’ve got one, no adjustable suction but really does the job. He does fall over inappropriately but it rather adds to the charm when he has a little lie down. Utterly unbreakable, get an aerobrush attachment for carpet too. Had dysons etc always gone back to Henry.

amusedbush · 09/01/2022 21:46

I have a Hetty, I’ve had her for years but I’ve just replaced her with a cordless Dyson. It’s not a comment on Hetty though, the suction is good but she’s really heavy and moving the plug from room to room annoys me Blush plus hoovering the stairs is difficult and clunky.

tothemoonandbackbuses · 09/01/2022 21:47

Hetty is very good, as is Henry but neither follow nicely. If they can get entangled in a table leg they do. They last well. You can get paper or hepa type bags so no emptying loose dirt out. The filters do need vacuuming off regularly. I take my hetty round to my dad’s. He uses his Henry to clean hetty and vice versa.
I did acquire a samsung vacuum cleaner, it’s bag less which I don’t like and it also does follow nicely but it’s slightly better than hetty.

The perfect description 😂😂😂

I love mine although he is now my third Hoover and primarily used for DIY and heavy clean ups my shark is too prissy for..

Maverick66 · 09/01/2022 21:48

100% recommend Henry from a suction and long lead point of view.
However, it is cumbersome to carry up and down stairs.

BettyfromBristol · 09/01/2022 21:48

Henrys are brilliant. Ours has seen us through a house renovation and was used daily when our children were small. He's over 30 years old, with only the brushes needing to be replaced occasionally.

Fuckitydoodah · 09/01/2022 21:48

I love my Henry. He's a bit on the weighty side and not the most sexy but you can count on him to get the job done and he'll cope with most stuff. Hasn't let me down yet.

DirtyDancing · 09/01/2022 21:49

Just got my first one before Xmas. So far very happy, but it is heavier than I had expected.

Willome · 09/01/2022 21:50

Good suction. Heavy and not easy up the stairs. They are big to store. For a smallish house, I wouldn't get one.

Spacerader · 09/01/2022 21:51

Henry's are good, but they are big, bulky, awkward to store if you don't have good storage and just faff.

So I'm going against the grain and saying I'd get something else especially if you have a small flat.

Thatldo · 09/01/2022 21:52

The reason why many cleaners use it is not because it is a good hoover,it is because it is a very sturdy, robust hoover.the suction,in comparison to other hoovers, is quite poor. But if you want a robust thing, that doesnt break down if "thrown about", go for it.

OrangeSyringe · 09/01/2022 21:52

100% get a Henry. Brilliant vacuum at a good price. A real workhorse.

If you’ve got £££ to spend a Miele is lighter than a Henry.

My friends who are cleaners love Henry’s or Mieles but would only ever buy a Henry themselves.

Never get a Dyson. They don’t actually vacuum and you have to empty them every bloody time or they lose what little suction they have.

Brilliant! Even mid tantrum, Henry never forgets his purpose. To suck.
TopCatsTopHat · 09/01/2022 21:56

The reason cleaner's use them is cos they're cheap to buy not cos they're good. I have cleaned in hotels and they're bloody awful. Fall over easily. Fill up so quickly and are filthy to empty, by the time you've emptied and cleaned up after yourself you wondered why you bothered. Long cos, but since you have to go back to it every time you need to guide it round a corner like an elderly aunt on roller skates there is hardly an advantage in that and the auction is lost really quickly as the bag fills up, really quickly. I hated it and his inane grin only made it worse.

Fleur405 · 09/01/2022 21:59

When our dyson on broke I asked our cleaner what she would prefer - I only ever use the handheld dyson but she doesn’t have enough charge for the whole house in one go. She said a Henry!

ImmediatelyNo · 09/01/2022 21:59

Had both a Henry and a Hetty. Both are great hoovers, they can get up to some mischief but how could you get angry at that face?

They will handle just about anything you can throw at them and are a great price. Worth getting some of the many attachments to go with.

pumpkinpie01 · 09/01/2022 22:01

I cannot stand mine , it's sat in the garage needing a new bag and rather than buy a new bag I went to Argos instead and bought a Vax , it's brilliant . I would happily just give my Henry away.

OrangeSyringe · 09/01/2022 22:01

The Hepa Henry bags mean there is absolutely no mess emptying him.

I think I could go 6 months without changing the bag, that’s in my 2bed flat. I change it more like 3 monthly as. i don’t like the dirt sitting around.

He has a very long cord. He has 3 plug holes to do the whole house.

BarrowInFurnessRailwayStation · 09/01/2022 22:02

Mmm, I don't have a lot of room to store it. I have an upright shark atm but it falls over all the time, is heavy and the cord is stiff and gets kinked and tangled.

I've never had a cylinder vacuum before so I thought it'd make a change. I'd never have a Dyson again. They're only for ornamental purposes now I think.
