Would you recommend a Henry vacuum cleaner?

Are Henry's any good?

What are the different types? I have seen a Hetty and a Harry cleaner. Are these the same?

Is the suction adjustable? Would you recommend getting one?

My house is small with furniture that I need to get under, so don't want anything too big. I have a shark and I can't be doing with it anymore am just going to use it for the car.

I changed from z Henry yo z cordless shark znd I much prefer thd shark. it. Henry drovd me mad with the long cord winding it up and the long hose. So cumbersome. But I've kept it but dong use ig now,

OldSpeclkledHen · 09/01/2022 22:36

Yes, but you'll hate him! Mine did a roly poly this morning- for no reason.

Good job he sucks well, or I'll LTB again

(Had one, hated him, got rid. Got a Dyson- hated that more so gone back to Henry 😬😬)

SherbertLemons · 09/01/2022 22:36

My Henry drives me nuts. I really dislike the way the sectional handle always comes undone when I'm cleaning. That said it has lasted through a house renovation (lost of brick dust) and is still working, so great value for money. I want to get a lighter model next and one that doesn't come apart.

He falls over loads and is a bugger for stairs. He doesn’t store easily and I find him a bit of an arse laying on his side grinning at me. He falls all the time.

He’s now the garage vacuum and for dirty jobs.

I have an upright shark, not cordless. Has a lift away short and long wand. Sucks like a bugger. Love it. Was £350 but it’s much less in the sales now. Highly recommend!

Chesneyhawkes1 · 09/01/2022 22:44

Yes I love Henry. He comes out for the jobs the Dyson can handle.

Only thing I don't use him for is stairs cos he likes to shin me

Chesneyhawkes1 · 09/01/2022 22:47

*can't

FrancescaContini · 09/01/2022 22:50

@FelicityPike

Yes, but he can be a dickhead getting caught & tangled on his cord and flinging himself down on his side dramatically like a Disney Princess on occasion. He’s heavy on the stairs. But he’s a great hoover.
Grin Mine is just the same.
CheshireCats · 09/01/2022 22:53

Nope. Heavy, cumbersome, tips over and cord gets tangled.
I am a cleaner and wouldn't dream of buying one.

Hugoslavia · 09/01/2022 23:01

We have a Henry and he can be a bit of a snug bastard as he just grins when he falls over or obstinately refuses to follow me round the dining table. But he has his uses. He's powerful, good on both hard floors and carpets, can easily get under furniture and his hose can stretch all the way up to the top stair (just), which makes life easier. The head swivels nicely. Overall I would recommend. He will eat socks if you're not careful though.

Biscuitandacuppa · 09/01/2022 23:02

I have a Hetty and she’s great, really good auction but does fall over! Bags last for 6 months and she lives in the under the stairs cupboard happily with the ironing board. I do however only use her downstairs, I have a small (cheap) Hoover upstairs as I find it difficult lifting her up and down the stairs.

Greydogs123 · 09/01/2022 23:03

Henry is the best- yes, heavy for doing the stairs (I bought the crappy dyson wireless for that job) and he does fall over in a slightly annoying way, but he sucks up everything!
We had a lath and plaster ceiling fall down years ago and after we had removed all the rubble/big stuff we used henry to suck up the vast amount of dust and little bits of ceiling. He got everything and still worked absolutely fine - ours is about 17 years old and the only replacement part was a new tube.

Bichette · 09/01/2022 23:03

I'm a housekeeper and have met many vacuum cleaners in my life.
My favourite is Miele. Henry is okay - robust, long cable, but not variable suction.
Dysons are all crap.

MeredithGreyishblue · 09/01/2022 23:05

He seeks out corners and legs to bash into and falls over dramatically, like Jack Greakish, if you so much as look at him sideways! But he is a workhorse and comes out for all the difficult jobs.

RedCandyApple · 09/01/2022 23:10

Yes, I had a Henry and hated it then I got a dyson and realised how great Henry was 😢 paid too much for the dyson so just have to live with it now but wish I had my Henry back

chocolover88 · 09/01/2022 23:13

I would deffo recommend Henry as a good sturdy hoover that just gets the job done

amusedbush · 09/01/2022 23:23

Kills your back if you are over 5ft with all the bending.

Ah yeah, I forgot to add that. I’m 5’ 4 so hardly a giant but the muscles in my lower back seize up when I use my Hetty. You need to bend low and push and pull quite hard across the carpet, which is a workout.

I’m sorry to hear the Dyson slander Grin I love mine so far. It works brilliantly and it’s so light, much less rough on my chronically painful wrists.

FairytaleOfLancashire · 09/01/2022 23:25

Definitely not

Shark, all the way.

PenelopePitstop79 · 10/01/2022 00:02

Never bother about a Henry. Get a Miele. They are utterly amazing.

Once you have a Miele, it's the difference between night and day. Sharks etc won't cut it:

PenelopePitstop79 · 10/01/2022 00:05

My professional cleaner says my Miele is the best she has used. The suction is unbelievable. It's a Miele blizzard. My old Miele c2 lasted 10 years. Again it was incredible.

Absolutely this^
SusieSusieSoo · 10/01/2022 05:30

Depends on your floors op. A Henry doesn't have a roller so doesn't brush the carpet pile up at it goes. I have a corded shark. My cleaner has the same one (I bought at her request when my Dyson died). She said you can see a big difference for having the roller.

Biscuitandacuppa · 10/01/2022 07:29

You can buy an additional head with a motorised roller for the Henry/Hetty I use that for all my carpets and rugs.

RBKB · 10/01/2022 07:35

YES. Mine is still as good 14 years after purchase. We have always had a second. We have had to replace the second ones about 6 times. Dyson are shite. Sharks are meh, ok. If you ever see school or office cleaners, they use Henry. For a reason.

absolutelynotfabulous · 10/01/2022 07:37

Hetty owner here. She's got a great suck, but awkward to store and heavy to lift up stairs.

She's 10 years old this year.

NativityDreaming · 10/01/2022 07:44

No, they are rubbish. They are cumbersome, ill designed, and not that good a vacuum. The only thing going for them is they are cheap and, for some unfathomable reason, nostalgic.
