Kindle vs kindle app on phone?

Read on my phone most nights but always end up replying to a WhatsApp or scrolling mumsnet instead (like right now)

Want to buy a kindle so I can have my phone turned off at night and left on dresser and not by bed. Also thought will help to generally reduce my screen time a bit as I'm on my phone way too much

Dh saying huge waste of money as can use kindle app on phone like I already do? I have a £50 Amazon gift card so if I get the basic kindle it's only costing me £19 and seems worth it. We already pay for kindle unlimited

Is it worth it? Is the basic kindle crap and better to go straight to paper white also? Help please!

Kindle screens are totally different to phone screens. They use e-ink, for a start, so look like book pages. Personally I hate reading books on my phone because it doesn't feel like reading a book and the screen is all wrong for reading things for long periods. I'll do it if I have nothing else but not out of choice. I have a Kindle Oasis and it's wonderful.

@Nat6999 blue light blocker. I have an iPhone. How do I find that

Kindle is much much better for your eyes because it's like real books. The lighting is also better and can be used in any type of setting, including bright sunshine, without reflections.

I'm always a little thrown by how many people read on their phone rather than a kindle. Mine is with me ALL of the time and I absolutely love it.

My only small complaint is to take advantage of pricing, I have the 6inch paper white (got on sale before Christmas after my old one died) and I wouldn't mind trying the slightly bigger one simply because I feel I have to turn the page a LOT (this is even worse on a phone). But I do read very quickly and it is true that the 6inch one fits very comfortably in my hand when lying reading in bed.

I love my oasis. As someone who has bad hands. The lump on the back of the oasis makes it easier to hold as I feel like I can grip it. I also prefer having buttons to use instead of touch screen. It also rotates. So the buttons can be for right or left hand users.

I have used a kindle for about 10 years , the last couple have been paperwhites . They are ace . I have around 1500 books in the cloud , of which the majority were free or 99p .
The past 2 years I have joined kindle unlimited with Amazon for £7.99 per month . For this I can check out up to ten books at a time , returning each one as I've read it . I must read 15 to 20 books a month . My kindle is much better than reading on my phone or iPad. The light is kinder to my eyes at night . Each page is bigger than phone so don't have to turn over ( tap screen) as often . The kindle is far lighter than the iPad. I'd say go for it , you'll wonder how you managed without.

@bsc

I have a paperwhite, and it's honestly my favourite item I own. The screen is good, far better on my eyes than my phone. Far more words on a page on a kindle (matters to fast readers, I think). I'm not tempted to browse with a kindle, just crack on with my book.
It's the more words per page that makes me want one, I am a very fast reader and get sore thumbs from flipping pages.

I love my kindle. I had a basic one and treated myself to a paperwhite on Black Friday and I love it.

I have both but prefer my phone. You can play around with settings ,I can't tell any difference with eye strain. I have my phone with no blue light in the evenings when I read.
