Things you can't believe you put up with

When I was 14 I asked for a jewellery box for Christmas. I picked out one I liked from the Argos catalogue, it was one that looked like a wardrobe with drawers in the middle and an opening top.

I've had it for 20 years. The handles have snapped, it's looking very tired. I decided to treat myself to a new one. For the princely sum of £30 I now have a large square one with a lift out tray, loads of compartments, two separate pieces for studs etc etc. And it can't be knocked over by my toddler (or me).

I can't believe I put up with the old one for so long. All my earrings are now paired. My jewellery looks lovely in it, even though most of it is cheap as chips.

Anyone else? Lighthearted or not!

My Henry hoover…..

He was heavy and awkward and his tubey bit kept splitting.

I have a Shark now and it actually sucks up all the massive amounts of hair in this house! Grin

Did it have a ballerina which danced to swan lake when you wound it up with a key. Which got lost within 10 seconds

It also had like oriental stained glass doors???

The AstroTurf in my back garden which was there when we moved in. It’s grotty and weedy and local cats mess on it so I have to keep picking that up - gross. I’d love to replace it with a lawn but haven’t got round to seeing about it. I don’t know if it’s even possible.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 04/01/2022 22:51

@GreenClock we had our garden done last year. I was told anything is possible as long as you have the funds!!!

I think I have the same one and it's still going strong after 20 years! I use it for storing hairbands, make up and jewellery. Its accessed daily!

Onlinedilema · 04/01/2022 22:55

Scratchy, uncomfortable knickers. My ex use to like me to wear lacey, Brazilian type knickers. The ones with hardly any gusset and they don't quite cover your bum cheeks. Anyway I haven't worn them since we split up so I had a clear out and threw them all away. I've since replaced them with lovely cotton, comfy nude ones from M&S bliss.

carlygirly · 04/01/2022 22:58

We put up with old scratchy towels for years before I wondered why one day, and now we have an entire set of lovely fluffy John Lewis ones.

I always think this at people's houses. My parents lived without a kitchen bin for years, just using a carrier bag each day and taking it out. (They are minted and it was ridiculous.)

I need to ask my friends to audit mine. Grin I think you just live with stuff and stop noticing it.

doodlejump1980 · 04/01/2022 23:00

Think I had the same jewellery box, then I discovered stackers and they’re bloomin’ brilliant!

tectonicplates · 04/01/2022 23:02

I'm gonna join in with the "my ex" comments. What a loser. I hope he's living a miserable life, the twat.

NewYearCalavicci · 04/01/2022 23:04

The carpet in my living groom , about 10 years ago we needed a new carpet as the one we had was frayed and beyond getting clean ( it was 17 ish years old and cheap ) the pub I was working in at the time was replacing the carpet in the function room so I took it as a temporary measure, its woven hessian or something like that , very hard wearing but horrid to walk on and horrible brown and doesn't fit properly its about 6 inches to narrow.
I have had it down about 5 years !
I bought a new one at the end of last year is getting fitted in a few weeks Smile
