Things you can't believe you put up with

When I was 14 I asked for a jewellery box for Christmas. I picked out one I liked from the Argos catalogue, it was one that looked like a wardrobe with drawers in the middle and an opening top.

I've had it for 20 years. The handles have snapped, it's looking very tired. I decided to treat myself to a new one. For the princely sum of £30 I now have a large square one with a lift out tray, loads of compartments, two separate pieces for studs etc etc. And it can't be knocked over by my toddler (or me).

I can't believe I put up with the old one for so long. All my earrings are now paired. My jewellery looks lovely in it, even though most of it is cheap as chips.

Anyone else? Lighthearted or not!

Years of foot long apple cables hanging over side of bed or sofa when it’s charging. Be gone! Now have extra long cables it’s amazing.

Rubbish old pillows really cheap replace and x10 size of old ones.

Bad / old bras... I still put up with too many. WHY?!

My outside light on didn't work for years, maybe 15 years, it took a bloke with a big ladder (here doing another job) two minutes and a new bulb to sort it out.

Squeaky, stiff kitchen tap. Got one put in with one of those jet spray extensions. Then moved a few months later. Wish I'd done it years ago!

@carlygirly

We put up with old scratchy towels for years before I wondered why one day, and now we have an entire set of lovely fluffy John Lewis ones.

I always think this at people's houses. My parents lived without a kitchen bin for years, just using a carrier bag each day and taking it out. (They are minted and it was ridiculous.)

I need to ask my friends to audit mine. Grin I think you just live with stuff and stop noticing it.

I used a small swing-top bin for recycling for years, then during the first lock-down I thought "sod it" and bought a lovely bin from Lakeland.www.lakeland.co.uk/46175/Rotho-Albula-Recycling-Waste-Bin-Fern-Green-Colour-25L

My mum never had a laundry basket of the type that you place the clean washing in to hang out on the line. She used to carry the whole lot over one arm and struggle to peg out one handed. For years I asked her why she didn't buy a plastic basket which never really cost more than a fiver. She just said she didn't need one 😆
One year I decided to take matters into my own hands and bought her one for Christmas!! She never looked back 😍

Crap, cheap outwear. When I had my daughter I bought decent, comfortable ankle wellies, a warm, properly waterproof coat and waterproof padded pram mittens so I could take her for a walk whatever the weather. Spent near enough £500 but they have been worth every penny and will easily last me another 5 years. I'll never go back!

Like @Laila747 - having a heavy, slightly broken hoover that didn't fit in cupboard and was a nightmare to get out and hoover anything up with, so we seldom did. Shark has been so much better.

Also can't believe I put up with DH doing so little washing up - but since he bought a large, extendable dish rack he does it so much more often thank God.

And wired bras - I have small boobs, and I don't think any woman my size or smaller needs underwiring since the invention of lycra but it took me until me 40s to work this out. Mostly living in bamboo fabric crop tops which do just fine.

That's the ultimate thing I need that I can't quite being myself to buy- I use Ikea bags! I have a small laundry basket but it's used as toy storage and wouldn't fit all my laundry in.

Old nighties (the oversized t shirt variety). I was looking through some old baby and toddler pics of my daughter (then 14) and in one I was wearing a very familiar nightie - yep I looked down and it was still in use 12 years later! Treated myself to three new ones.

Not having a dishwasher. 7 years ago I had a new kitchen and actively decided not to have a dishwasher, in favour of extra storage.

I moved 2 years ago, and honestly. What was I thinking?! I absolutely luuurve my dishwasher.

I also love my Henry, though. I've had a Shark, an AirRam and a Dyson - not one of them hoover as efficiently, none can cope with the amount of mud and pet hair that comes into this house.
