How do you get stuff out from under your sofa?

Just as per the title... Two toddlers in the house, loads of little toys, hair bands etc. What's your go to method (so that I don't kill my new robot vacuum)? On your tummy reaching? Long stick? ...?

Broom handle!!

SlowBoiledFrog · 04/01/2022 12:15

Leave it?

Bagelsandbrie · 04/01/2022 12:15

A hanger used sideways !

DonGray · 04/01/2022 12:16

We have a grabber/litter picker thing

FelicityPike · 04/01/2022 12:17

Move the sofa out and pick the stuff up off the floor.

MerryChristmas21 · 04/01/2022 12:18

Move the sofa. But if that's too hard, broom handle.

minipie · 04/01/2022 12:18

Move the sofa or long ruler if I can see it.

PrisonerofZeroCovid · 04/01/2022 12:19

Lift the sofa up with one arm and sweep stuff out with the other

Seeline · 04/01/2022 12:20

Old pair of tights over the end of the hoover pipe - sucks everything up, but stopped from disappearing into the hoover.

PrisonerofZeroCovid · 04/01/2022 12:20

As in tip it backwards, not literally lift it into the air Grin

Georgeskitchen · 04/01/2022 12:20

Broom handle

NewPositiveYear · 04/01/2022 12:20

I send my 4 year old under. Haha.
Before that, I would move the sofa
.

Alsoden · 04/01/2022 12:26

Grin @PrisonerofZeroCovid I had a picture of you in my mind and was very impressed at your strength

Just watch the cat doesn’t get underneath whilst the couch is lifted up. I once sat for 20 minutes with a settee balanced painfully on my thighs waiting for the cat to get close enough to grab so I could drop the couch without squashing it.

NewYearCalavicci · 04/01/2022 12:31

Depending in how big the gap is could you block it by velcroing some draught excluder snakes to the underside?

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/01/2022 12:47

Tip it backwards, or lie on the floor and use my hands/arms.

Maybe my sofa isn’t as big as yours!!

runningfromtheoutlaws · 04/01/2022 12:49

Pull them out!

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 04/01/2022 12:50

My late grandmother's wooden walking stick! Remains invaluable for retrieving cat toys now that the DC aren't losing moshi monsters and the like every 30 seconds frequently

BarkminsterBlue · 04/01/2022 13:06

We have this, the Oxo 'under appliance duster'. It is long but very thin and flexible and gets under both the sofa and the TV unit. We refer to it as 'the muppet'. Broom handles and the like wouldn't fit under our sofa, although all the bastard Lego happily will.

PattyPan · 04/01/2022 13:07

Kneel down and reach under with my arm… there is a fair sized gap under my sofa (IKEA Ektorp)

Alsoden · 04/01/2022 13:14

Ok thanks everyone since I don't have the tip it over/move it option I'll just get the broom out. Just wondered if anyone had invented anything more useful/guaranteed to get every last bit in one sweep!? Like that OXO thing attached to a broom for length? Hate when those little bastard bits evade the broom. And it's so dusty under there the robot definitely needs to have a go

Same here, so I’m struggling to see the issue!
BlairWaldorfLovesShopping · 04/01/2022 13:21

Bit random but - We have an ikea hemnes daybed upstairs and decided to replace one of the foam mattresses with a sprung one to see if it was more comfy. Rather than get rid of the old foam one, we discovered that it fitted perfectly under our sofa, and we’ve even used it for (young) guests to sleep on in the living room. Yes you can see it and it looks like what it is - a mattress under a sofa - but it’s now impossible for toys to go under the sofa and has made our lives sooo much easier for the past couple of years.

Juletide · 04/01/2022 13:22

Lakeland Flatmate duster.

User2638483 · 04/01/2022 13:23

Why can’t you move it out? Bit gross to never hoover under it/behind it
