Why is it so hard to drink water?!

I try and drink 2 mugs of water in the morning, every morning. I can't drink water from a glass (no idea why?! I just doesn't feel right!) It has to be immdiately from a tap otherwise it tastes weird, I can't leave it for 10 mins and drink it. It's so hard to gulp down, so I try and take little sips but it's really hard work!
I can't drink anything at work as it tastes gross and nothing is clean. There's not even paper towels. I'm not organsied enough to bring my own mug in and clean it between each use. Also, the mug has to be white on the inside. I dislike drinking from a mug that's a different colour on the inside. IT IS STILL WATER FROM A MUG, why the hell should it make a difference?!
The stupid thing is, water is my drink of choice and the only thing I will drink during the day, I hate juice and will only drink coffee at a push.
Anyone else find water hard to drink?!
Obviously, this is lighthearted as I've just read it back and realised what a weirdo I am!

Ooh I love drinking water!

We e just moved to Croydon though and it tastes rank. So I’m drinking a lot less. I’m not buying bottled when I pay for it to come out of the bloody tap.

Are water filters worth it? I’ve lived in London for the years and never had horrid tasting water!

girlmom21 · 03/01/2022 16:16

Have you tried a glass water bottle? Especially one of those that encourages you to drink a set amount per hour. That way you won't need to refill at work but the tops can be silicone or plastic so it's not like drinking from a glass.

thewhatsit · 03/01/2022 16:19

No, I love drinking water. I can’t eat food until I’ve had water to drink.

If you’re just drinking water why do you specifically need to clean your mug at work? Can’t it just be re-filled over and over?

Comedycook · 03/01/2022 16:20

Who doesn't like juice?! Shock

crosbystillsandmash · 03/01/2022 16:23

I never drink water, bloody hate the stuff.
I drink decaf tea all day long, can anyone explain how my body can distinguish between the water in my tea and any other?
I drink pints of boiled water everyday!!

Lots of people! Is it that hard to comprehend that people's tastes vary enormously? Grin
daisyjgrey · 03/01/2022 16:27

It's not that hard, you're making it much harder work with all the fannying about.

Ohh not keen on juice, or squash. I however love water and rarely drink anything else Grin
megletthesecond · 03/01/2022 16:30

What about a metal water bottle? It keeps it cooler.

WheelieBinPrincess · 03/01/2022 16:30

I didn’t like juice or squash at all.

I drink wine, coffee or water. It was rubbish being pregnant 😂

Comedycook · 03/01/2022 16:32

I can see how squash might not be to everyone's tastes but I thought juice was universally loved Grin. We drink absolutely loads of the stuff!

Oh I hate juice. You quite rarely see adults drinking juice don’t you?
MimiBaker · 03/01/2022 16:32

I like drinking chilled water, I struggle with room temperature water.

MrsJBaptiste · 03/01/2022 16:33

I don't really love water but drink 2-3 litres a day as I know it's good for me.
Sometimes quite hard to get down though!

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2022 16:34

It can't. It also can't tell the difference between water from the tap and from soup, within an apple etc etc - it's all H2O. The original, over quoted estimates of how much water we need in a day was from all sources - mostly from food.

Of course, it can tell whatever else you may ingest at the same time, some good, some less good, some neutral. Personally I wouldn't drink much juice because it's too sweet. Tea with milk is perfect, IMO.

BertieBotts · 03/01/2022 16:37

It's probably the temperature if you like it straight from the tap, try a chillys bottle?

Of course tea is just as hydrating as normal water. People say it isn't because there is a myth about caffeine being a diuretic, but it's not strong enough to completely cancel out the fluids.

Comedycook · 03/01/2022 16:37

When out I guess...I don't drink alcohol and hate fizzy drinks so have juice when I go out. I assumed people drink it at home with their breakfasts especially?!

BertieBotts · 03/01/2022 16:39

I used to love juice and couldn't get enough of it but it's expensive so don't drink that much these days and now I often find it's too sweet and overwhelming. I will drink a glass of it almost as a snack rather than as a drink.

We all only drink water as our cold drink (well except wine and beer 🤣). My children are the same. We all have those bottles which will fill up and use through the day that keep it cold for 24 hours

ErrolTheDragon · 03/01/2022 16:42

@Ionlydomassiveones

I can gulp beer or juice easily when I’m thirsty but when it’s plain water I feel like I’m drowning. I hate it. Struggled with it as a child too.
If you're thirsty due to being active or it being hot, chances are you need some electrolytes. In which case pure water isn't necessarily the best option.
TooWicked · 03/01/2022 16:43

I can only drink hot (boiled) water or sparkling water, and my dentist shouts at me about the sparkling water.

I've tried one of those bottles that is marked out with how much you should drink every hour, to try and break it up a bit, but I still can't do it.

Chunkymenrock · 03/01/2022 16:44

Juice is juice and squash is squash. Squash is not juice. Op, is squash any better? Drinking juice frequently is very bad for teeth and would be very high in fruit sugars. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry. Drink water as you prefer to. Although we are incredibly lucky to have safe drinking water at the turn of a tap.

Chunkymenrock · 03/01/2022 16:45

I love a pineapple juice when I'm driving and avoiding alcohol.

UnshakenNeedsStirring · 03/01/2022 16:46

I hate water. I buy sparking water (bad i know!!) but I find it very hard to drink water. Especially after someone told me that every sip I take has been passed through a human body atleast 3 time . Gross
