Why is it so hard to drink water?!

babywalker2 · 03/01/2022 16:10

I try and drink 2 mugs of water in the morning, every morning. I can't drink water from a glass (no idea why?! I just doesn't feel right!) It has to be immdiately from a tap otherwise it tastes weird, I can't leave it for 10 mins and drink it. It's so hard to gulp down, so I try and take little sips but it's really hard work!
I can't drink anything at work as it tastes gross and nothing is clean. There's not even paper towels. I'm not organsied enough to bring my own mug in and clean it between each use. Also, the mug has to be white on the inside. I dislike drinking from a mug that's a different colour on the inside. IT IS STILL WATER FROM A MUG, why the hell should it make a difference?!
The stupid thing is, water is my drink of choice and the only thing I will drink during the day, I hate juice and will only drink coffee at a push.
Anyone else find water hard to drink?!
Obviously, this is lighthearted as I've just read it back and realised what a weirdo I am!

Try a chillys water bottle, keeps it super cold and refreshing all day.

ouch321 · 03/01/2022 16:47

Love water, always have but some object on the grounds that's tasteless. You can get flavoured water or flasks/bottles where you can self flavour the water with slices of lemon, cucumber etc.

Wannabegreenfingers · 03/01/2022 16:48

For me water is water. It doesn't really have a strong taste one way or another. I don't drink squash and very rarely fruit juice. Absolutely nothing diet Artificial sweetners are the work of the devil. 🤢

Listen to the BBC sounds 'Just one thing' podcast on water. It trumps all other drinks, although milk also came up good for hydration, but I recall the calories added up.

Tap water tastes drastically different in different parts of the country
Twitchynose · 03/01/2022 16:50

Try drinking it through a straw, I can drink a lot more that way for some reason.

ElephantCup · 03/01/2022 16:51

@daisyjgrey

It's not that hard, you're making it much harder work with all the fannying about.
Completely agree

Juice is too fattening for me. It's SO calorific. My Christmas Day treat this year was a massive glass of orange juice. 😆

I struggle with water. Can I drink sugar free squash with water? I could drink loads if that but for some reason WW tells its members that it's bad.

Naimee87 · 03/01/2022 16:53

I love freeeezing cold water! Usually in a glass! Sometimes fizzy! But cannot drink water from a bottle that had anything else other than water in it, definitely tastes horrible then... never heard anyone that doesn't like water, that's so funny! The things you learn on here ay! Grin

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/01/2022 16:56

It tasted funny from a mug I think.

I love water, and drink loads. Although it definitely tastes bigger in the north!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 03/01/2022 16:57

nicer in the north

lozzadoo · 03/01/2022 16:58

I'm also weird when it comes to drinking water!
I'll drink it from a glass but not from a mug or from a bottle. So i end up not drinking any at work as i don't have anywhere to store a glass when I'm not in the office and can't be bothered to bring one each time.
I also don't like water cold from the tap, only room temp, so i have to leave it sitting for a while. And i have to sip it, if i try and gulp it, it feels like I'm drowning!
My husband thinks I'm really odd. It's only water that i struggle with though, i could easily glug a whole mug of tea that was going cold in one go!

BertieBotts · 03/01/2022 16:58

I think sugar free squash has those sweeteners that have the same effect on the brain as sugar so can still cause negative effects, I can't remember exactly.

MrsTophamHat · 03/01/2022 17:00

I forget. All the time.

When i do remember, I am very conscious of not having too much because I can't go to the toilet when I want to, so that puts me off as well.

WhoTheyWas · 03/01/2022 17:06

I love water & drink loads during the day, but I hate drinking it in the morning. However, if I drink a glass as soon as I wake up I feel SO much better, so I just gulp it down like medicine. Not enjoyable, but necessary!

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 03/01/2022 17:08

i used to hate drinking water but now I get my water free from the White Springs in Glastonbury, there is a tap outside straight from the source and you can just go and help yourself.
It tastes completely different. I fill up my bottles and drink about 4 pints a day.

Phrenologistsfinger · 03/01/2022 17:16

I love water! Drink loads. It has to be filtered though (not London tap water) - my berkeys water filter is a game changer.

Also tea, black or green (no milk). Big fan of coconutvwater for electrolytes. Love apple or orange juice but too sweet to have much so only tend to have that with some wheatgrass as a shot or special occasions.

Weakness for Appletizer and sparkling water but mainly when eating out as bad for teeth.

stayathomer · 03/01/2022 17:32

As a previous non water drinker I think it's a barrier you only break through by forcing yourself (I used to make sure it was the first thing I did in the morning) until you begin to tolerate and then like it. Saying that I adore bottled water (which I don't buy just cos of guilt) and water from my mum's tap (in Dublin, we're rural). We have to filter our water and it's still disgusting (they did a lot of work on a local road and it was never the same. The council have ruled that it's drinkable as within their ranges but everyone around is gutted that nothing's being done). Best of luck with it OP, I find a huge difference in everything health wise when I drink a decent amount

Faretheewellmyfairyfay · 03/01/2022 20:17

If work water or work hygiene is gross, then keep some bottled water at work. It's not a crime against humanity to use plastic bottles. Make sure they get recycled, if you can, and don't feel guilty.

But, you don't actually have to drink any pure water if you don't want to, all water in food or drinks counts, it's a myth that it doesn't. I often drink skimmed milk in between hot drinks. And I don't like the taste of a lot of tapwater so I put a teeny bit of squash in it. So you could try those tactics. Also small cartons of fruit juice might be useful for work.

Faretheewellmyfairyfay · 03/01/2022 20:17

*plastic bottles

I meant to say ...when you have a good reason and are using them in moderation for that reason only.

Cherrytart23 · 03/01/2022 20:22

Try drinking from a sports bottle I like water can drink alot of it but my dc won't drink it from a glass but will happily drink it from a sports bottle.
