Are the blue light cards worth getting?

I've heard about it but haven't got one. I've had a quick look online and you pay 4.99 a year which isn't much but just wondering if anyone finds it useful to have?

Yes, most Starbucks take it.
And I have had money off stuff, you’ve got to remember to use it

HoldingTheDoor · 03/01/2022 11:23

Yes, they're definitely worth it. I don't have one but a close relative does. Sometimes the supermarkets(Morrisons and Asda at present) offer discounts. KFC do a discount and a variety of other stores including Schuh. Greene King pubs too.

There's a wider range of offers online too. It's easily worth the money even if you only use it once.

GoodnightGrandma · 03/01/2022 11:25

There’s a card and an app, so you can use either.

It's actually £4.99 for 2 years, just renewed mine Smile

If you're eligible for it then it's absolutely worth getting one. The discounts range from 5-10% to sometimes as much as 40% and they're on a range of shops not just restaurants.

SilverHairedCat · 03/01/2022 11:33

Yes, I've had one for years. They are basically the same company as also do the Defence Discount Card for anyone in or married to someone in the military.

AnyFucker · 03/01/2022 11:34

Yes. I covered the tiny fee with my first shop at Asda.

soupey1 · 03/01/2022 11:34

Yep, we have one and saved the cost of the card with our first use and have used it again since a few times.

MrsWorriedMother · 03/01/2022 11:35

Yes I have one and it's definitely worth it.
I ask if they take it in every shop or restaurant I go in and a lot of the time it saves me a fair bit off the bill.

wizzywig · 03/01/2022 11:36

Definitely!! Got a discount on car, food, loads of things

fairgame84 · 03/01/2022 11:40

Yes it's definitely worth it. Loads of places accept it. I got 10% off a shark hoover, dh loves sports direct for his trainers and its 10% off there. You can get money off at attractions like alton towers etc
I use it a lot at asos.

Nanasueathome · 03/01/2022 11:44

My daughter has one and the amount she has saved is well into £100’s
Really worth having

Newchallenge · 03/01/2022 11:47

I saved more than that on cinema tickets the first time, and get 15% off at mountain Warehouse.

I'm not a big spender so I wondered the same as you. But yes I think it's worth it.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 03/01/2022 11:49

It is if you remember to use it.

bonfireheart · 03/01/2022 11:53

Yes, it's great for new look, river island, restaurants so many places.

Winnietherose · 03/01/2022 12:00

Yes, you get loads of discounts and will easily make the 4.99 back. I saved £4000 on a new car !

Hornicorn · 03/01/2022 12:09

I’ve just had an email to say it’s expired and I only used it once to get about 10% of a cheap meal at a highstreet chain. Not sure it was worth it for me

MsMiaWallace · 03/01/2022 12:11

Was considering getting one too!

Wilma55 · 03/01/2022 12:15

If you can be bothered you also get 3% off in sainsbury's but you have to preload gift card. Weird fish and Seasalt have 20/30% discount.

Kite22 · 03/01/2022 12:16

It is, as others have said, about getting into the habit of using it, and of asking at every restaurant / fast food place / hospitality place / shop as they don't generally advertise it.

Be aware some places I'm looking at you Nandos won't accept it unless you also have your work ID with you. Which is fair enough if they make it clear upfront.

amusedbush · 03/01/2022 12:19

I’m a student so always on the lookout for places I can use my discount and I’ve noticed shops that offer blue light discount but not student. I’d definitely say it’s worth it if you’re eligible.

AnyFucker · 03/01/2022 13:47

Yes, there have been a couple of times I have been refused the card for not having other ID with me.

This is what puts me off TBH. Some colleagues have said this happens.

I work for the unpopular emergency service and am afraid of people spitting in my food etc once they know who I work for.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/01/2022 13:53

as long as you remember,
cineworld
millets
fatface
superdrug discount for nhs staff
asda did for december, in store only,

User2638483 · 03/01/2022 13:54

My favourite thing so far has been 25% off at Seasalt
