James Bond is RUINED (spoiler alert!!)

So…been saving the latest 007 for a family xmas movie night - day to day lives here are mega busy so at weekends if we can all sit together to watch something it’ll be a comedy series or an hour episode of something. Kind of a big deal to sit to watch a whole long film… I’ve always been a mega Bond fan…knew all the films word for word (before I was 10😬……actually never let my kids watch those due to the terrible sexism🙈)….BUT, introduced them to the Pierce Brosnan films (slightly better!) and then the more recent ones. The whole point of JB is that he ALWAYS survives!! Loved the feisty ‘new’ 007 BUT the old one is never meant to be seen to actively expire …we all just move on to the new version knowing they’ve retired. I don’t know why I’m irrationally cross - I think I’m obv the minority that’s got bored of the new fashion of making everything unnecessarily different in an attempt to be ‘edgy’ - it’s actually just a bit desperate. Am I the only one who fed up?!!

Who’s fed up - so irrationally cross I’ve lost my grammar and spelling too!

I don't know anyone who thought it was much good to be honest

At most when I've asked, they've said "Yeah it was ok".

BuanoKubiamVej · 03/01/2022 00:29

James Bond is not ruined. The films you like are still there and have not become less good. You didn't like one film. That's ok. A lot of people did. That's also ok. Not all films can please all people but I am sure that future 007 films will be made that meet with your approval. It's all ok.

Nah. I quite liked it actually. The whole secret love child thing annoyed me more. It was a good way of saying goodbye to Daniel Craig more than anything.

Sherlock Holmes came back from the dead. James Bond can too.

DropYourSword · 03/01/2022 00:32

I really liked it. Clearly in the minority though! I thought it was quite a brave choice, and a good way to say goodbye to Daniel Craig’s Bond.

olympicsrock · 03/01/2022 00:33

Really enjoyed the film although it was a shock!

Whataday198 · 03/01/2022 00:34

I really liked it. I liked that the Daniel Craig films had a proper arc with a proper ending and then everything will reboot as usual with the next one.

Blinkingbatshit · 03/01/2022 00:35

Meh, thank you - I think I’m just cross I kept the kids up late for something that left them (& me) totally non plussed. I obviously fell for the hype it received on being released….need to remember why I don’t bother with tv much anymore either!!

Yes @Morewinehenry - the secret love child thing was totally see through …..and let’s face it, the amount he’s been at it over the last 40ish years they must be everywhere..especially on the basis he doesn’t seem to have ever used ‘protection’….a gun under the pillow doesn’t count🤣

Oh I loved it! Can't wait to see how they're going to take it forward!

OneMoreForExtra · 03/01/2022 00:43

I wanted to ask whether they were allowed to do that. Surely the grown-ups wouldn't have given them permission to dick about with Bond? I felt shocked and nonplussed, they broke a 50+ year-long deal with the audience, by which I mean me. The whole thing was a homage to previous films and in retrospect was a goodbye tour even before the last 5 minutes. It might make for a better transition in cinematic terms but it crapped on the tradition of Bond emerging unscathed and quirking an eyebrow at the unlikelihood of it all.

PeaceONoeuf · 03/01/2022 00:43

Ilm with you op, also loved it that the bad guy was happy to stop abducting the kid so easily.

BreasticlesNotTesticles · 03/01/2022 00:45

But you didn't see him die...!

Blinkingbatshit · 03/01/2022 00:48

Yes -@OneMoreForExtra - I think that’s it! Even dc1 (mid teens) said ‘it’s no wonder Danny Boyle resigned from directing’. Not surprised either!!

ilovetomatoes · 03/01/2022 01:36

Hated it too. 1. James Bond wouldn’t care if he had a kid. 2. All the swapping of the 007 crap was annoying 3. He doesn’t die

Was really annoyed when I left the cinema.

I’m with you OP

We watched right to the very end of the credits. BOND WILL BE BACK

1forAll74 · 03/01/2022 04:45

I think that the latter day Bond films have been lack lustre, due to Daniel Craig, He is a miserable looking James Bond character, with an awful looking face, not charismatic at all. It was always expected, that James Bond, was good looking, charming, and had a fun side, as well as a daring and a dangerous side.. Everyone knows all the early Bond men, Craig falls short of them all.

Haggisfish3 · 03/01/2022 04:48

I loved it! Obviously in the minority!Grin

Hyppogriff · 03/01/2022 04:53

Totally loved it . Was so sad at the end !!

NdujaWannaDance · 03/01/2022 05:01

It's wide to open to all sorts of interpretations though. No body to bury so who knows what might have happened in the last second? It's bond after all, the whole thing is full of outrageously improbable stuff.

The only thing we know for sure is that he can't have contact with his girlfriend or their daughter. Everything else is still to play for.

I think the black woman playing the 'new' 007 was a bit of a red herring, put there to make us think the next Bond will be both black and a woman but how can that be, when she isn't actually JB? After all, the whole book and film franchise is based on the man who is called James Bond, not on his agent number, which is transferable.

Some possibilities going forward:

James Bond actually married Madeleine, it just wasn't mentioned. She is Mrs Bond and becomes 007 herself.

Or the remaining unadapted/unused Ian Fleming material will be made into new Bond films but they will be prequels in the sense that they will go backwards in time to when JB was still alive. So this film is the final one in his life, but not the last story to be told, if that makes sense.

Deathraystare · 03/01/2022 07:29

I wanted to see more of the villain in it. Didn't like the lovey dovey stuff but better than the old fashioned sexism.

Sunnysidegold · 03/01/2022 07:31

"he doesn't use protection...a gun under the pillow doesn't count!" Grin

I was a bit "meh" when I came out. I had so looked forward to it. I don't really like the Madeline cjaracter though and I think that put me off a bit.

NdujaWannaDance · 03/01/2022 07:33

Yes Seathstare considering all the fuss made in advance, Rami Maliks part was very small and a bit of a let down as a character. I don't think he even was a baddie really, just a damaged person with a vendetta.

ShippingNews · 03/01/2022 07:37

Did you watch right to the end of the credits, and after that ? When everyone else has gone home ? It says in upper case letters "JAMES BOND WILL RETURN" . Which tells me that it will not be a female, as people think. It will be Bond. James Bond.

LizzieSiddal · 03/01/2022 07:37

I still haven’t got over them killing off Dame Judi!
