Awful sickness and tummy ache...my poor DD

So my poor DD, 14, woke late this morning and had bad tummy cramps. I originally thought it could be down to her period but she said it was above her belly button and different to any period pain she's had previously.
Got progressively worse and then she started being sick at about 5pm. Has been sick probably every half hour since, and the pain isn't letting up.
Called 111 at 6.30pm and after a triage they sent us for an out of hours gp appt at 9.45pm. She had a mild temperature before we left but noticeably cold hands I thought.
Told the gp everything, including that we'd had a takeaway curry last night but that both daughters shared a portion between them and my younger DD 2 is absolutely fine. She had a feel of her tummy which she said wasn't guarded. Tried a finger oxygen monitor but said her finger was too cold so couldn't get a reading.
So her diagnosis was that it was possibly food poisoning.
So my questions are...
If you share the same portion is it possible that one person can get food poisoning but the other doesn't?
If it is food poisoning how long will the cramps and vomiting last? She is really struggling now, she is drinking a fair bit as we've said that's the best way to clear out her tummy ( no idea if that's true but don't want her to get dehydrated ). She is literally vomiting lots of greeny, yellowy liquid.... bile I presume ( sorry if tmi ).
I have never had food poisoning so no idea how long this will go on for, or how long she can cope with so much vomit...it's been 7 hours so far Sad
Is there anything else I should be looking out for. No rashes of any kind and her temp is 37.4 at the mo.

Glad your dd is better and the op went well!
This exact scenario happened us 2 years ago,
My ds 14 at the time had a Chinese take away, vomited, painful tummy aches for 2 days, swore we would never get that Chinese again ever! all just presumed it was food poisoning
Till Xmas morning we decided to bring him to out of hours doc,
Straight to hospital, emergency surgery appendix taking out!

God that was a hard Christmas
She will be back on the mend in no time!

Meant to put it was keyhole so fingers crossed we'll be home tomorrow and a speedy recovery after that. Thanks for keeping me company Flowers

Fantastic, thanks so much for the update, I'm so pleased to hear it went well. Hope she gets out quickly and you can both get home and get some much needed sleep!

EarringsandLipstick · 04/01/2022 17:28

What a lovely smile your DD has! Glad it's all over her now.

QuestionableMouse · 04/01/2022 17:32

Glad to hear she's okay 😁

Clymene · 04/01/2022 17:32

Yay to her coming home tomorrow. And you can still go to your favourite curry house Smile

Clymene · 04/01/2022 17:34

But seriously this has been a really informative thread. I had no idea endless vomiting as well as pain could be a symptom of appendicitis.

Holothane · 04/01/2022 17:49

Oh yes vomiting fever even diarrhoea are symptoms.

Smile I had always had a little list in my mind of symptoms as my brother had awful appendicitis when younger, but then I had suspected appendicitis that ended up being a throat infection. I had all the symptoms, the glands in my throat bought up the glands in my tummy and mimicked the symptoms. Hence, my ditheryness throughout I think. Anyhoo, just had a quick visit from one of the drs who had just finished her shift...she had promised my dd she would be there throughout and she was Star Turns out her appendix was definitely ready to come out and we totally did the right thing. Smile So relieved we didn't ever report the curry house...we love it there GrinGrin

I've just read from start to this point, you sound like a brilliant parent and your daughter seems such a trooper bless her, sounds like agony. I'm glad she's had the removal and can heal now.

TitoMojito · 04/01/2022 20:30

Glad to hear they've found the source of the problem and got it sorted! Sending good vibes to your DD for a swift recovery Smile

Dilbertian · 04/01/2022 21:02

Good newsSmile Get well soon, bobkate junior 🍇

Thank you. That really nice to read. I am so proud of her. She sometimes usually has an ever so slight Wink tendancy for the dramatic and with normal things has quite a low pain threshold ( think cutting toenails/brushing hair...lots of exaggerated ouches )...but she's done me proud these past couple of days that's for sure. We have the ward to ourselves, it's amazing! I have nothing to do now but relax....no washing, no clearing up, no moaning about getting to bed....it's quite relaxing Grin

That is splendid news.

I am only sorry that it took such a long time to get a diagnosis and was so much worry for you all.

I hope that she goes on to make a very speedy recovery.

I'm so glad she's ok. I work with children with autism and learning disabilities. A while before Christmas one of them became very sick in the same way as your daughter. His appendix burst and he had emergency open surgery and a week in hospital on iv antibiotics. Thank goodness it didn't come to that with your daughter. Did they say anything about her ovary?

We were told by one of the drs who was down with her that the gynae team came down to have a look but were happy with it. I will get a clearer idea when I speak to them in the morning. It sounds as though there was a little cyst and that's what they've taken a sample of, sort of might as well whilst we're in there type of thing. So I'm fairly confident my worrying for now is done and dusted Smile

That sounds really positive. Fingers crossed everything will be ok for your daughter. Hopefully she'll be back to normal really soon.

We're home Smile She's sore, tired and emotional but pleased to be in her own bed. As will I be!
Thank you again for all the comments. They've been a real help x

@bobkate So glad to hear 😊 Hope you both get a good nights sleep in your own bed!! I’ve had keyhole abdominal surgery myself and for me the worst part afterwards was the pain in my shoulders which I really wasn’t expecting! It’s from the gas that’s been pumped into the abdomen during surgery. So keep on top of her meds 😊
EarringsandLipstick · 05/01/2022 21:37

That's great OP. All the best for DD's recovery.
