What new craft shall I try in 2022?

I fancy something new to learn, on a small ish budget though.

My dad's likely to give me some money for my birthday in a few days so I'll probably use that. If not, I have £20 Christmas money to spend.

Any ideas?

I already sew (with a machine), have done cross stitch, enjoy crochet, have tried iris folding. There are probably others I've forgotten! I need ideas...

Decoupage?

anyoldname76 · 31/12/2021 23:05

The 2 hobbies I like are needle felting and crochet, as I can do both from my sofa Smile

Needle felting for sure

I discovered phytograms at a festival in the summer. You get to create really beautiful photographs from plants, without a camera.

Lindy2 · 31/12/2021 23:07

I tried needle felting for the first time recently. It was good fun and it's actually fairly easy to get a good result.

Redshoeblueshoe · 31/12/2021 23:08

This afternoon I watched one of the Kirstie Allsopp Christmas programs, it had several things that looked really good.
I may have had one glass of wine too many tonight, but tomorrow I'll try and let you know which episode it was

MaudebeGonne · 31/12/2021 23:08

Needle felting is good as there is loads of different styles. I am trying linocutting - I got a kit for Christmas!

Floralnomad · 31/12/2021 23:08

Weaving , you can get small starter looms quite reasonably priced and there are loads of useful things you can make .

DuckWithOneWing · 31/12/2021 23:10

Latch hook. It's like a good between cross stitch and knitting

PlsTryAnother · 31/12/2021 23:11

I started diamond painting during lockdown and love it!

FaoinDrualus · 31/12/2021 23:12

Crewel embroidery. So pretty!

Faoin that is beautiful

I had to google what iris folding is. I crochet and donate rugs to charity. I've also made small, crochet flowers on hair clips for my god daughters.

  • Calligraphy
  • Jig saw. Someone recommended wasgij brand
  • Adult colouring in
  • Macrami (handy for hanging house plants in)
ShroomShroom · 31/12/2021 23:27

I'm going to try a blackwork SAL and I'm also thinking of trying calligraphy or macrame for 2022 Smile

OneLlamaOpenSleigh · 31/12/2021 23:29

I keep meaning to try Tunisian crochet

Punch needle embroidery. You’d just need to pick up a needle (I use a lavor one) and some monks cloth (eBay). You’ll probably have a hoop and some wool. It’s quite a quick craft to pick up but makes beautifully textured works.

That's gorgeous!
Snugglepumpkin · 01/01/2022 00:44

Gilding - if you work with imitation sheets it's really cheap & there is almost no equipment needed.

You don't need a Squirrel hair brush, a really soft make up brush from any cheap shop will do.

CormoranStrike · 01/01/2022 00:54

Do you have an iPad? If so I spent a tenner on a drawing app called Procreate and am loving the results.

I drew this dachshund puppy yesterday.

Tassel making is on my list

Blossomsbloom · 01/01/2022 01:23

I've started air dry clay making trinket pots, then gilding and decoupaging them. Also had a go at origami and getting addicted.

The little wizards are sooo cute!

OP, try stained glass painting. I got a kit last year and thoroughly enjoyed it!
