We have a bed being delivered on sunday, its just a single bed frame for the babies room as we still take it in turns to sleep in the same room as her..but just checked now and it can hold 100kg as its limit... I am over this by a couple of stone ..i do want to lose weight and i will once i have got my head in it but for now i am over! I would be sleeping in it 5 days per week do you think it will last for a while? Are all ingle beds like this? It wasnt too expensive so dont mind if it doesnt last yeara and years but would like it to last a few years if poss!

You'll have to let us know how well it lasts.

Could you sleep on a mattress on the floor instead -- yes, I would do this.

TreeSmuggler · 31/12/2021 21:33

I'd sleep in it no worries, it's just a guide. Not like at 101 kg it's going splinter and collapse. Just don't jump on it.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 31/12/2021 21:45

If it’s one of those with wooden slats, they seem to break quite easily - DD broke hers without being anywhere near 100kg.

if its slats replace with a few stronger ones or extra ones

Thatldo · 31/12/2021 21:55

No, the bed will break under that weight.

SweetBabyCheeses99 · 31/12/2021 21:55

That’s like 15% over the limit 😬 I’d sleep on the mattress on the floor for now.
No need to get your head in to weight loss, you’re building it up to be too much. Just eat a bit less and/or move a bit more.

MyDcAreMarvel · 31/12/2021 21:56

A slatted single bed isn’t going to hold over 15 stone. Definitely not 17, return it for a divan.

Newbabynewhouse · 31/12/2021 21:58

@lljkk

I have already been doing this for months but just want to make it look like a proper room and so guests can stay if need be now and then Blush i sound like an elephant hahaa i dont think i look that massive..maybe im in denial.. gets embarrassing when you have to start thinking about weight limits on things!

Pop the mattress on the floor and it will be fine. I slept on a mattress on a floor for 8 months and it was actually very comfortable.

Pigsinblankets4breakfast · 31/12/2021 22:09

It will probably be fine. I’m overweight myself (haven’t a clue what I am in kg) and have been sitting in my baby’s cot to get him to sleep. If the cot can cope with me then a single bed can cope with you.

AnnaSW1 · 31/12/2021 22:09

We had this thought about my other half using one of our daughter's beds. You also need to factor in the weight of the mattress. The single mattresses we have weighs over 25kg so with a 100kg person on it you're already 125kg on the frame.

However, he often sleeps in them and they are fine!

NannaMcPhoo · 31/12/2021 22:15

Can you cut a few extra slats from some reclaimed wood? That should take the pressure off of the existing ones.

That's silly though. If the limit is 100, and a regular mattress weighs 25, then any person would need to be at most 75 kg. It's not exactly uncommon for a man to be 80-85, especially if they have a little muscle.
Drunkpanda · 31/12/2021 22:20

If you're taking it in turns, why will you be in it 5 days a week?
I broke a slatted bed by standing on it once. I think sleeping will be fine. I'd be concerned if you were in it with the baby though, just in case.

AnnaSW1 · 31/12/2021 22:20

@FuckeryIsAfoot I think the general idea is that grown new would more commonly be in a double bed not a single! 😀

OP didn't ask for weight loss tips. Why do people do this?
SilkLabrador · 31/12/2021 22:24

100kg is approximately 15 stone that's a pretty good weight limit

WrongWayApricot · 31/12/2021 22:25

I don't think it will break. It'll probably give way over time if it's going to. Even if it goes suddenly it won't be far to fall and you have your very own crash mat. Just make sure nobody's hiding under it when you get in.

Londonr · 31/12/2021 22:26

I'm sure that (everything) says Weight limit 100kg Confused apart from scales that is. I think you will be fine though 🙂

Cuck00soup · 31/12/2021 22:29

It could depend on the design of the bed. A divan would potentially be ok as the weight is distributed. A frame bed with small legs could be more of a concern as the legs could collapse.

For information, a lot of dining chairs have a weight limit of 80 KG, about 12.5 stone.

SarahJessicaParker1 · 31/12/2021 22:33

I think you'll be fine tbh. Don't flop on to it with force and I reckon you'll be OK.

Galliano · 31/12/2021 22:35

A quick Google says there are single beds for sale that can support 150kg. I’d cancel and order something else or you’re just going to feel nervous of using it.

Mother2princess · 31/12/2021 22:37

Sleep on floor on mattress

PurplePansy05 · 31/12/2021 22:38

I agree, a divan would probably be ok. Slated base might not be. How tall are you, OP? And what's the size of the bed? It depends on the weight distribution. However, if you're 2st over it's unlikely you'd lose such weight very quickly so the extra pressure on the bed would likely be noticeable (daily use, time needed to lose weight etc.). In the nicest possible way, 100kg pp is quite a standard limit, if not on a generous side, as pps said. I'd be minded to make a shift and lose weight reasonably for your own health and comfort in your lovely new bed SmileFlowers. Until then, do you have any other beds to use on a temporary basis? xx
