Barbie and Sindy in the 80s

I’ve been reminiscing with a friend about our favourite Christmas presents as children in the 80s. We both loved Sindy and Barbie and both got the three-storey townhouse one year for Christmas and a swimming pool. But we remember the swimming pools differently. Hers was the one that shows up on Google images now, whereas I can’t find any trace of mine. I’ve checked with my mum and she confirms I remember it correctly.

Did any of you have the same one I wonder - it was free form style, with a graduated Rocky/grassy edge to it and a plateau for a sun lounger. I can’t remember if it was Barbie or Sindy.

Also, did any of you have a pink and purple Barbie nightclub, with a revolving dance floor and a disk shaped backdrop with flashy lights? Another I distinctly remember, but doesn’t show up anywhere on Google!

Not the point, but it totally fits my memories of 80s Barbie/Sindy that Barbie would have a pink and purple nightclub with a revolving dance floor and flashing lights, while Sindy would have... a stable. Or possibly a dog grooming parlour.

Yes, the nightclub was definitely Barbie! I think the pool was too, as the Sindy one on Google images is not it. Mine was glam like Barbie too, like something from a Hollywood starlet’s house

I had Sindy’s horse. No stable. My brother once kindly cut Sindy’s hair off on one side, coloured it orange and splinted her skin green.

I had a Pippa's Apartment, I LOVED it

I didnt have the swimming pool but I had Blizzard. It was so 90s even the horse wore legwarmers.

No experience of Pippa! Where did she fit in with glam Barbie and horsey Sindy?

So jealous, lots of Pippas but no apartment. I did have a Havoc secret agent doll and the motorbike. I loved her.

I had a Sindy but no Barbie but I did have Barbie camper van. I loved that, best present ever. Also, Tressie with changeable hair that you lengthened then wound back in with a special key put in her back.

But favourites were Action Girls though they did have very feminine four poster bed and bedroom furniture.

Was it the barbie fountain pool, that had plants and a platforn for loungers.

mnahmnah good question, I think Pippa may have been vaguely related to Barbie?

My barbie was very pleased my friend had a ken from America
Meant she could stop having to put up with the fake action man from the market who couldn’t even bend his arms and legs

I had lots of furniture but no house. All Sindy. I did eventually have a Barbie.

Pippa was smaller and younger looking than Sindy. Mine was slightly darker skinned. She was horsey, but didn’t really fit on Sindys horse. She may have had her own size horse, but not at our house.

Oh back in the 1960s I had Sindy, little sister Patch, boyfriend Paul and French friend Mizzi. The outfits were fantastic, such good quality.

I loved the Sindy doll house! I remember walking into the livingroom one Xmas morning in the late 80s and there it was, all built up. A few years ago I discovered you can look up old Argos catalogues from the 80s online, maybe the pool would be in the toy section of one of those?
