What brings you a little bit of joy?

What are the things / moments / experiences that bring you a little bit of joy?

It could be anything from growing your own garden flowers from seed to having a collection of mulberry handbags.

A few from me:

Occasionally I get to have an afternoon nap
In bed and I love that hour or so just resting in the daytime.

Any pudding when eating out. I'll often check the menu and plan my main meal so there is room for the desired dessert.

Seeing daffodils spring up and having a feeling that soon we can spend more time in nature and the garden with lighter and brighter days.

Feeding the birds.
Walking in the rain.
A glass of red wine in the evening.

GoodnightGrandma · 30/12/2021 06:44

My dog.
As I’m going to divorce in the new year I feel quite alone, he’s the only thing that makes me feel happy.

HoseMeDownWithHollyWater · 30/12/2021 07:06

I had a baby in early November so sheep has been in short supply.

My husband and I play to our strengths so he stays up late with the baby while I sleep, and I get up early with the baby while he sleeps.

Those few hours where I'm in bed with just my dog are the best. We spoon.

When I bake and decorate a cake and it comes out really well. I’m not a creative person, so when I (occasionally) manage to make a cake look like I wanted it to, I get so incredibly proud of myself.

TheWayTheLightFalls · 30/12/2021 07:19

Having a coffee by myself in the quiet before everyone else wakes.
Being at home when it's pouring down outside and I can watch the rain through the windows.
Cuddles from the DC.
Achieving something anything in the garden. Our garden is like the Forth Bridge, but still.
Good food.

I love a rare afternoon nap, would have one every day if I could. Even just having a couple of hours to myself if the kids go off to to grandparents and I can read a book in bed during the day. Literally happens once every 6 months but I love it. Also love morning cups of tea in bed before the kids wake and a good foot massage from the DH.

There's nothing quite like spooning with the dog. It makes me very happy.

My special mug Collection.
A cuppa watching crap tv before the kids are up.
A sleeping baby on me.
Interacting with patients at work.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 30/12/2021 08:16

Absolutely seeing the daffodils becoming out in the spring.

And that 5 mins per week where all the housework/washing and ironing are done so l can sit and chill without a to do list whirring round my mind.

MintMe · 30/12/2021 08:16

I've been making a list of these since Christmas so that I can ensure I'm doing regular things that I love and that bring me joy.

  1. My Sunday morning lie in with a coffee and a home improvement magazine while DH looks after DS
  1. Fresh flowers
  1. Picking my Hello Fresh recipes
  1. A hot bath
  1. Childs pose in yoga
  1. When I can, a long walk with a murder podcast
  1. The moment DS comes running out of school
  1. Going up to bed to read
  1. Choosing new nail designs
  1. A cold glass of wine, usually on a Friday night when DS has gone to bed

Trail running in the stunning range of hills next to our town (The Pentlands) - it’s always a slog to start off with but will invariably loosen off and feel as though I’m on top of the world, which in a sense I am.

Have attached a pic from Monday there. Amazing and yes, joyful.

What brings you a little bit of joy?
TeenMinusTests · 30/12/2021 08:17

Supermarket shop coming to a whole number of £ with no pence.

Car milometer clicking over to 50000 or 12321 or any nice number.

PurplePansy05 · 30/12/2021 08:19

When my DS laugh chuckles and cuddles up to me when I hold him. His first smiles when he sees me every morning (he's 5 mo).

When DDog and DCat chase their toys happily, smile snd bark happily/purr and snuggle up somewhere next to me.

When I can listen to my tunes whilst driving.

A hot cup, of anything!

A clean house, particularly clean for Christmas.

Empty washing and ironing baskets.

Chatting to my close friends.

Time to myself, in any shape or form. Total rarity.

Theatre and travelling. Never happens now and I miss it so much.

MintJulia · 30/12/2021 08:21

My ds still wanting the occasional hug - at 13
The first garden snowdrops
Waking up early and knowing there's no rush.

WorriedMillie · 30/12/2021 08:25

Oh yes, an afternoon nap, it doesn’t happen very often, but I love it when it does!

Sniffing my horse, which sounds odd, but they have a certain smell that takes me back to my childhood. Ditto sniffing the tack room- leather and saddle soap!

A tidy and clean house, for the brief period it stays tidy and clean Grin

Cuddles with DD, under a blanket on the sofa

A cup of tea and chat with my friend

DreamerSeven · 30/12/2021 08:28

Making a pot of tea out my pretty teapot

N0va · 30/12/2021 08:33

Ooh I love reading everyone else's!

Uninterrupted caramel macchiato from coffee machine, bonus points if it's still hot 😂

Massages

Cuddles with dog or DS where they are sleepy and want for nothing but a cuddle (no playing/feeding)

Long motorway drives with all the songs I like and can sing along to.

Sleepy night feeds with DS when he's laid down, latched perfectly and we both have heavy eyes.

Christmas morning.

A candlelit bath with sad/acoustic songs and fresh bed sheets to come out to c

MelonTits · 30/12/2021 08:38

Quite a lot of these for me too - daffodils/spring bulbs popping up, a quiet coffee in the mornings, cat cuddles and DC cuddles.

Long train journeys by myself. Music, podcasts, reading and snacks, watching the landscape change out of the window.

Buying myself flowers. I know that cut flowers are environmentally terrible but the way a fresh bunch brightens up my house brings me so much joy.

JudgeRindersMinder · 30/12/2021 08:40

A line of washing in the garden

Insert1x20p · 30/12/2021 08:43

@pictish Yes, there's nothing quite like a trail run. I need to get back into it and "relearn" that the crappy first 2km are always worth it!!

linerforlife · 30/12/2021 08:45

@pictish good Lord how lucky are you to live there !!

skyblueone · 30/12/2021 08:47

Getting up before everyone else and enjoying the first coffee of the day in total peace.
A good drying day (I'm quickly turning into my Mam!)
A bath with loads of bubbles.
A glass of wine on a Friday night at the end of a busy week.
When 17 yr old DD writes 'to the best mam' in cards.

pictish · 30/12/2021 08:48

On a less epic note, the first coffee in the morning, a nice mug, a good book, something compelling to watch on tv.
