What brings you a little bit of joy?

What are the things / moments / experiences that bring you a little bit of joy?

It could be anything from growing your own garden flowers from seed to having a collection of mulberry handbags.

A few from me:

Occasionally I get to have an afternoon nap
In bed and I love that hour or so just resting in the daytime.

Any pudding when eating out. I'll often check the menu and plan my main meal so there is room for the desired dessert.

Seeing daffodils spring up and having a feeling that soon we can spend more time in nature and the garden with lighter and brighter days.

A day when there's a big dump of snow (happens here about once a year). The look on DS face when he wakes and I can tell him to look out of the window and see it!

Yes to all of yours OP, especially naps!
Also the first cup of tea of the day, DC laughing together, the smell of freshly cut grass, going out for tea and cake, starting a new book, petting a dog, watching Bake Off.

lesenfantsdelesperance · 30/12/2021 10:34

I get lots of these but oddly equally lots of these really give me the ick.
I think my number one would be a cup of fresh coffee.

Squills · 30/12/2021 10:35

At the moment, I really enjoy the end of a shower when I turn the water fully to cold. Every morning, burst of cold to wake me up and I stay there for 30 seconds. Love it.

(I have had periods of time when the shower broke and had to have fully cold showers. I got used to it.)

I also get great joy from seeing deer near me - I went for a run the other week and crossed a road and a deer was standing in the middle of the road. It felt magical.

JMAngel1 · 30/12/2021 10:53

30 seconds! Eek!
Did you have to train yourself? What benefits have you found from it? (thinking about this for New Yer but maybe too much of a wussGrin)

iklboo · 30/12/2021 10:55

Clean bed
Clean PJs
Clean me
Candle
Good book

Cats

All together. Makes a nice, relaxing evening.

Lovemusic33 · 30/12/2021 10:57

Spring/summer….things/flowers starting to poke out of the soil and birds starting to nest.

A nice view….walking up a big hill and looking down on the world.

The sun coming out and the sky being blue.

Car milometer clicking over to 50000 or 12321 or any nice number.

LindaEllen · 30/12/2021 11:03

Rare evenings when DSS is at uni and DP has gone out for a drink - as I can sit and watch crap TV and read in peace. Maybe even have a bath!

I love DP and it's great he likes spending so much time with me, but everyone needs 'me time'!

Moonface123 · 30/12/2021 11:21

Walking anywhere amongst nature, far from the maddening crowd.
Growing big bold drifts of flowers from seed and watching the bees enjoy them.
My cats purr.
A lazy morning in bed.

Sunbeams09 · 30/12/2021 11:29

A completed jigsaw

Opening the first window on my advent calendar

My baby’s smile when she sees me if I am lucky enough to catch her when she first wakes up

Watching my toddler dance

A clean bathroom!

mumonthehill · 30/12/2021 11:29

So much! That first cup of coffee in the morning, hearing the owl as I go to sleep, reading in bed with a bar of chocolate, a really hot shower with special shower gel, and right now a bowl of twiglets in front of the tv while everyone is out!

Crinkletinkle · 30/12/2021 11:34

Merry Christmas Everyone by Shakin' Stevens

StevieNicksscarf · 30/12/2021 11:43

Wild animals visiting my garden. I have a disability so can't go for walks despite living in a beautiful part of the country.

Two Christmases ago a beautiful barn owl landed on the gatepost outside our kitchen window and just sat there for 10 minutes. It was Christmas Eve and it was mesmerising. I felt somehow very spiritual even though I'm not religious. The memory of it it still brings me joy.

This year, I was driving down our single track lane and was met by a mother and baby deer. The mother leaped over the hedge into the field and the baby looked terrified. Thankfully she followed her mother a few seconds later.

These little encounters stay with me for ever and truly make my heart sing Smile

almostforgotitwastwilight · 30/12/2021 11:45

There is always a day, usually just one as a little fluke, where you realise spring is coming. Always my favourite day of the year.

The smell of my DH's neck (sorry I know that's a bit 🤮😂 but I do love it!)

When DD says 'Dadda do it' (literally once in a blue moon)

Love this thread OP
