What brings you a little bit of joy?

What are the things / moments / experiences that bring you a little bit of joy?

It could be anything from growing your own garden flowers from seed to having a collection of mulberry handbags.

A few from me:

Occasionally I get to have an afternoon nap
In bed and I love that hour or so just resting in the daytime.

Any pudding when eating out. I'll often check the menu and plan my main meal so there is room for the desired dessert.

Seeing daffodils spring up and having a feeling that soon we can spend more time in nature and the garden with lighter and brighter days.

@skyblueone I've actually taken photos of the clothes on the washing line blowing in the breeze 🙈. It makes my ridiculously happy.

Being outside with the full moon

Reiki (giving and receiving)

Really good quality pyjamas

Sunbathing listening to music

@pictish

Trail running in the stunning range of hills next to our town (The Pentlands) - it’s always a slog to start off with but will invariably loosen off and feel as though I’m on top of the world, which in a sense I am.

Have attached a pic from Monday there. Amazing and yes, joyful.

Stunning photo @pictish 😍

Cuddles with children and dogs

Singing with a choir

I love seeing daffs too OP. They're my favourite flowers, simple as they are. I love the colour, and I know when they start to bloom that spring is just around the corner. A little sign that brighter days are on the way. Smile

My dog always gives me joy. She's always so pleased to see me. She doesn't worry about work, money, covid etc, all she needs to make her happy are a full belly, a walk in the park and game of ball and us. I keep saying to my husband we need to Be More Dog.

MuchTooTired · 30/12/2021 08:56

My kids when they do something adorable, like DD declaring I’m her best friend, or DS saying I wuv ooo too mama. Makes me feel like I could burst with love.

DS mastering a new sound or new word (he has speech delay).

Complete silence when everyone else is asleep and it’s just me awake.

A clean and tidy house, ditto reaching the bottom of the laundry bag.

Having a few minutes to myself to notice the leaves on the trees, and be at peace.

My China collection, or looking at some of my art on the walls (not mine!).

pictish · 30/12/2021 08:57
@pictish good Lord how lucky are you to live there !!
Yes…and I do appreciate it. Lockdown wasn’t as hard on us as others as we had this to hand. We bought our house in part, because of the proximity to the hills.
Thanks. X

@HoseMeDownWithHollyWater

I had a baby in early November so sheep has been in short supply.

My husband and I play to our strengths so he stays up late with the baby while I sleep, and I get up early with the baby while he sleeps.

Those few hours where I'm in bed with just my dog are the best. We spoon.

I know it was a typo, but thought this might make you smile

My sons face when my husband gets in from work

Reading with a hot coffee whilst the baby sleeps

having fresh flowers

Fresh bedding

A bath at the perfect temperature

Finding a new tv show that's amazing

Having freshly painted nails

Fairylights25 · 30/12/2021 08:59

Bright and fresh spring days
Sailing
Swimming in clear natural water
A deep candlelit massage with an experienced but gentle therapist
Walking in the summer in the swiss mountains
Snow falling

Xtraincome · 30/12/2021 08:59

Good thread.

@PurplePansy05 agree with Empty washing and ironing baskets. Chatting to my close friends.

Will also add:

 • driving on my own
 • Big walks on my own
 • morning cuddles with my DD4 and DD7

Also, any day where I am not at work, random day off. I hate working and feel complete when I've had a day of sorting the house, helping my mum, writing a bit and managing finances. I was so happy when I didn't work.

headspin10 · 30/12/2021 09:00

Lighting a candle with dinner on dark winter nights or early in the morning when the mornings are dark.

Getting into bed with fresh sheets.

Pairing bulbs with nice plant pots then seeing how they look together when the bulbs come up.

Being 'off duty' from the children so I can write or listen to a podcast in the bath.

Having a hot drink with a good friend.

Hearing the kids laugh together.

When I've eaten a delicious meal which is also packed with veg.

Getting rid of things and making clear spaces.

Reading a book wrapped in a blanket on the sofa with oat milk coffee in my favourite hand made mug.

Pamlar · 30/12/2021 09:00

Fresh linen on the bed and watching the trees in the wind.
Also just blocked a school mum who has been annoying me since reception (now in high school) that has given me a real spark of joy -probably not the nicest thing to admit to. But she's used me enough.

@HoseMeDownWithHollyWater

I hope this is better...

What brings you a little bit of joy?
inmyslippers · 30/12/2021 09:01

The free biscuit that comes with a brew

vampirestockingfiller · 30/12/2021 09:02

I like a morning spoon with the dog as well.
When a few tiny bubbles come out of the washing up liquid bottle and catch the light
Toast and marmalade
When the pigeons are let out at our allotments and they swoop about with the sun on their wings

Bohemond · 30/12/2021 09:02

Great idea to write a list - will do this to remind myself of the simple things I love

 • A clean car (hoovered inside)
 • Walks with my 7 year old. He chats more on walks than at any other time
 • Gardening (another with a garden like the Forth Bridge)
 • Fresh bed sheets
 • Finishing a pot of anything (particularly face cream)
 • Finishing a jigsaw
 • Ticking things off a list
headspin10 · 30/12/2021 09:02

I love this thread! Great idea.

nonevernotever · 30/12/2021 09:05

A good book
The sea on a stormy day or at sunrise/sunset
The colours of a pheasant, particularly on a frosty day (alive I hasten to add -used to see them a lot at the stables when dhorse was still with us)
Spring bulbs
The first roses of the year
Advent
Christmas Eve
Making things.
The cat sitting on my knee
Snow
My music lesson. Bonus points if I play a duet with my teacher and manage to finish at the same time as her.
The cat sitting on my knee while snow falls outside and I'm reading a good book is heavenly

I have prisms in some windows. I love the rainbows when the sun catches them.

shiningcuckoo · 30/12/2021 09:22

Clean sheets
A new book
A cup of strong hot tea
Spending time with my young students just playing and talking.
Swimming in the sea.

Ew - I always dislike a feathered egg. Reminds me of where it’s been…!
Eggsley · 30/12/2021 09:36

Freshly painted nails
When I've had my eyebrows done
The dog when I get in the from work, he's always so pleased to see me.
The dog lying down in the living room in the evening just chewing on his chews, he seems so content and happy.
Clean bed sheets
A hot coffee at work
Hearing DS1 and DS2 giggling
