What brings you a little bit of joy?

What are the things / moments / experiences that bring you a little bit of joy?

It could be anything from growing your own garden flowers from seed to having a collection of mulberry handbags.

A few from me:

Occasionally I get to have an afternoon nap
In bed and I love that hour or so just resting in the daytime.

Any pudding when eating out. I'll often check the menu and plan my main meal so there is room for the desired dessert.

Seeing daffodils spring up and having a feeling that soon we can spend more time in nature and the garden with lighter and brighter days.

This thread has given me joy!

For me:

  • a really hot bath
  • Fish, chips and mushy peas out of the paper
  • a shoulder and scalp mastage
  • closed curtains, lit candles, blankets on the sofa
  • that smell when you open the windows/door after its rained
  • washing blowing on the line and burying my face in it when bringing it in
  • face oil
  • my dog, just everything about him makes me smile (aside from the hair and smell)
  • all the dog hair hoovered up (see above)
  • that smokey smell in the air as we approach Christmas
  • seeing Christmas trees in people's windows
  • a new notebook
  • washing my hair when it just feels greasy
  • sleep! Especially a cheeky doze during the day
  • Something nice smelling (to hide the aforementioned dog smell), a nice candle or room spray, preferably orange.
  • watching a good film or rugby match
  • dark nights when the curtains can be closed early
  • watching cleaning videos on YouTube (super relaxing!)
  • socks (I just love them )
  • sitting on the sofa under a pile of blankets when its pouring down outside)
  • a pile of new magazines (see above)

@SportsMother that's lovely! ❤️

just don't kill it like all my friends do. A little bit of me dies everytime is see a shrivelled fig tree corpse.

@JMAngel1 I went swimming in the sea in October and the rush of adrenaline once i had become acclimatised to the cold water was amazing. And then the feeling of contentment once I was out was blissful. So I started doing blasts of cold in the shower. It makes me feel joyful and wakes me up. Reminds me that life is pretty good after all.

Try it! What have you got to lose - you can always turn the water warm again Grin

When I have to go to hospital for something during work hours so I get some time on my own in the waiting room.

I love the quiet dark mornings where I can sit in silence with my cup of tea before getting ready for work.

Also love sofa snuggles with my DD when she is tired but not ready for a nap.

And finally heading up to bed just after DD is down to do my skincare routine, read my book and settle down in bed with my cat!

Roominmyhouse · 01/01/2022 09:34

Sitting as I am now with the cat on my lap and a cup of tea in hand listening to the birds tweeting (unfortunately today I’m also listening to DH snoring!).

Feeding the birds. And squirrels and fox. Every morning I put out seed and nuts for the birds and squirrels, scraps for the fox then make coffee and watch the wildlife descend on my garden for breakfast. I love spotting the slightly rarer birds, the woodpeckers and nuthatches, and watching their habits - the gentle flock of collared doves, the cheeky magpies, the brave robins, the acrobatic parakeets that swing upside down from the washing line to amuse themselves while they queue up for the nut feeder.

greenweepingwillow · 01/01/2022 09:50

my morning cup of coffee in my Emma Bridgewater mug (I have one for each season!)
watching the birds on the bird feeder
watching the goldfish in the pond (more so in the summer)
writing in my bullet journal- easpecially when filling in a lovely new monthly spread
a lovely new wax melt in my wax burner
definitely all the little signs of spring on the way - snow drops, daffodils, leaving work before it gets dark etc
snuglling in bed with my little dog and a good book

Walking in the woods. I really love trees and large, old, wise trees bring me so much joy and calm.
Similarly, Libraries and bookshops.
More normal things are
Good coffee
Rain if I’m home and don’t need to go out
My sofa, blanket and good tv.

Fresh tea in a pot with fine china.

Seeing my seeds germinate

My children laughing

Fresh flowers

Climbing into clean cotton sheets

My husbands loving smiley eyes

Sun shining after rain

Walking on wet patio in bare feet in the summer

Bath with low lights and bubbles

Late breakfast with good coffee

Shopping for bargains in the flower markets.

Selling bespoke items to overseas

Spending time with my husband doing anything, anywhere. He's always a joy.
