Anyone got an Oculus?

I got one for Xmas and just had a play for the first time. Absolutely insane! It’s for my use only, no DC.

If you have one, what can you recommend?

No help sorry but following/bumping because I'm thinking of treating myself to one! Did you get the quest 2? Not sure whether to get the one with the comfier head strap

Doublechins · 29/12/2021 15:33

I got DS1 the oculus2 for Xmas. I've tried to have a go but it just makes me feel sick and dizzy no idea why as everyone else seems to enjoy it.

Stompythedinosaur · 29/12/2021 15:33

Moss is a great game.

The dc and I enjoyed exploring the international space station too.

Iseeyoulookingatme · 29/12/2021 15:34

Ds has had one for Xmas and I've been enjoying playing beat saver. Ds loves playing job simulater.

RonniePickering · 29/12/2021 15:34

Beat Saber, Superhot and I Expect You to Die are my favourites.

CatsLikeBoxes · 29/12/2021 15:35

Beat Saber is surprisingly enjoyable

XenoBitch · 29/12/2021 15:44

I have one. I got mine when it was launched last year.
My favourite game is Synth Riders.

The catalogue of games is growing all the time. You can find ones that are not listed on the official Oculus store here...

www.applabdb.com/

Also, open up the internet browser when you have the headset on search for

moodrider.xyz

and click on the goggles in the bottom right. It is a free game that has thousands of songs to choose from.

There is a group on FB called 'Oculus quest ladies'. They are very friendly and welcoming. If you want some friends to add to play against, or compare scores then just post on there.

Have an absolute blast with it Smile

XenoBitch · 29/12/2021 15:45

*Sorry, that should be moonrider.xyz

Acinonyx2 · 29/12/2021 15:50

Visiting places in google earth.

Hohoholymoley · 29/12/2021 15:51

Pistol whip is a great game. And Arizona sunshine.

BigYellowHat · 29/12/2021 15:59

DSS got one and I tried the classic rollercoaster ride. All I can say is don’t try it straight after eating as I almost 🤮 🤮 Was really fun though!

HappyGreen · 29/12/2021 15:59

Beat sabre and definitely google earth. I spent a lot of time in exotic destinations during the first lockdown Grin. Got ours just before the pandemic and it gets a lot of use in the winter months. Its really ds's but I'm often to be found knocking on his bedroom door asking for a shot Grin.

Ds1 has tried three different VR headsets, including 2 Oculus but just can’t get on with them. He persevered with each one, but ended up selling them on. He’s really upset about it, as it means he can’t game with certain friends. (He has ASD so online gaming is his social life.)

They make me feel dizzy and sick too. Apparently it can be related to your Inter-pupillary Distance. (You can look how to measure it online.) Ds also has convergence issues, so that may be something to do with it as well. Different headsets have different settings that only suit a fixed range of IPDs. Iirc, ds said only a couple of the really expensive ones have adjustable IPDs.

We got one last year. The elite head strap is great, knuckle straps are helpful too. We have a Chromecast which means the game can be cast to the TV in the living room. We can then play Beat Sabre in party mode and also escape rooms like I Expect you to Die and A Dark Matter as a group. Makes it more sociable.

BradleyCooperwillbemine · 29/12/2021 16:32

My son received one this christmas - seems to be very impressed with it. He made me have a go - its not for me.

SoupDragon · 29/12/2021 16:34

We played one called Acron as a family this Christmas. One person (the tree) has the headset and the others play on phones/iPad via an app and have to steal acorns as squirrels.

I was crap at it.

latetothefisting · 29/12/2021 16:44

@XenoBitch those links are really helpful, thank you!

user1493494961 · 29/12/2021 16:58

From your title, I was thinking this should be in 'Baby Names'.

GooodMythicalMorning · 29/12/2021 17:36

Touch the beat I think it's called. Trying to hit the rythm in time. And Elixir which is a castle type adventure game

Yes it’s the Quest 2, can highly recommend!

I love mine. Use it for cardio - beat sabre, song booster, BoxVR (the sun-settled version), powerbeatsVR, audio shield, etc. Also for Tripp to relax or watching movies / theatre etc. I am in VR at least an hour a day.
Saved my fitness when the gym was shut during lockdown.

Scottishflower65 · 29/12/2021 18:31

Also recommend the Quest Ladies group 😊

Smokeahontas · 29/12/2021 18:31

@XenoBitch thanks for that, will check them out

It makes me feel so sick, even the latest one. I just can't get on with them.

I envy the younger generations that can. I'm older, computers were only accessible in my late 20's.

My mum bought a quest after trying mine. She is in her mid 60s! She mostly uses it as a fitness tool. It doesn't really feel like exercise when it is a game.
