What do you have for breakfast if you leave early for work?

I tens to just grab a cuppa but then I get the munchies at work, eat my lunch too early then I'm into the biscuits and crap all afternoon

I want to break this habit but I'm pushed for time on a morning. We're up and out for 7.15, ds has breakfast at either my parent's or at Breakfast Club

Something I could prep the night before and take with me maybe?

A slice of toast or a small bowl of cereal.

PlanetNormal · 29/12/2021 12:08

Substantial cereal, eg weetabix, bran flakes, porridge or a couple of thick slices of wholemeal toast with some protein. Usually keeps me going until lunchtime.

Skiptheheartsandflowers · 29/12/2021 12:11

If you're pushed for time, a banana or a cereal bar need no prep. Have one and take the other with you for midmorning to stave off eating lunch early.

I usually have porridge in a thermos. I put porridge oats, milk powder and honey in the night before then top it up with hot water in the morning. It stays hot for a few hours but if you have a kettle at work you can top it up there and leave it for 15 minutes with the lid on.

Oh I have a little food flask. Never though of porridge!

Do you have a rough ratio of oats / powder / water please?

My DM would make peanut butter or marmalade sandwiches to take into work to have as soon as she arrived rather than eat too early.
Is having breakfast at work an option?

MissyB1 · 29/12/2021 12:16

I take porridge to work and heat it in the microwave there.

reluctantbrit · 29/12/2021 12:17

Slice of toast at 6.15am and then a yoghurt with cereals at work at 9am

GTAlogic · 29/12/2021 12:19

Nothing. I don't eat until my sandwich at dinnertime!

MilitantFaucet · 29/12/2021 12:20

I keep a box of cereal at work, sometimes take fruit or grab a piece of toast/bagel as I leave. If I’m organised I have hard boiled eggs ready to take. Often have nothing but coffee though

GTAlogic · 29/12/2021 12:21

My sibling makes a smoothie thing though and my mum used to store some cereal and milk at her work and eat it there.

Namechangeforthis88 · 29/12/2021 12:21

Porridge with a few raisins and some cinnamon in a tupperware box with milk and/or water, prepped the night before and left in the fridge. If you have a microwave at work warm it up for a couple of minutes. I do the quantities by eye, just depends how you like it. I also used to keep muesli at work, I'd put some in a mug, add hot water, leave it a few minutes and eat with a spoon. Delish.

CHEM20 · 29/12/2021 12:21

Overnight Oats made the day before

Mayvis · 29/12/2021 12:24

I eat Weetabix at around 6:40 then usually a small cereal bar or apple at 10:30. That does me until lunch.

GiltEdges · 29/12/2021 12:25

I tend to make my own flapjack/cereal bars and portion those up for the week. Grab one with my coffee first thing and have a banana mid morning to stave off hunger until lunchtime. Some days though I just don't fancy breakfast and will just have a black coffee.

shouldistop · 29/12/2021 12:25

Pre-kids I used to leave the house at 7am, cycle 30 minutes to the gym, have a workout, shower etc then walk round the corner to work. I'd eat 2 cold boiled eggs on my walk so no one had to smell them in the office Grin

Now I dont start work til later but tend to skip breakfast as a weight control method.

notacooldad · 29/12/2021 12:27

1 full fat Greek yogurt, a bit f maple syrup, blueberries.

If I'm making dh's breakfast I'll soak oats the night before with a little maple syrup and some dried fruit and I'll have that as well

YessicaHaircut · 29/12/2021 12:33

I leave the house around 7.20 most work days and cycle to work. I have a small bowl of cereal before leaving the house and take a banana with me, then have that and my first cup of tea when I get to work (desk job and I’m the first in usually). I do keep cereal bars and fruit in my desk drawer just in case too!

Snuggledupforwinter · 29/12/2021 12:40

Banana and coffee to go (which I consume on the train - usually its only a couple of other commuters that early!)

BeLessMe · 29/12/2021 12:53

I leave for work at 7am

I have linseed, Greek yogurt, a sprinkling of walnuts, pumpkin seeds, cashews and chia seeds.

MilduraS · 29/12/2021 13:07

Do you have a rough ratio of oats / powder / water please?

I bought the Flavahans quick oats which come with a measuring spoon so it's 2 spoons oats, a spoon of milk powder and 180ml water. A rough estimate is 30g oats, 15g milk powder and 180ml water.

FictionalCharacter · 29/12/2021 13:08

A good cereal bar or small peanut butter sandwich, and an apple. Eaten on the train sometimes.

SNUG2022 · 29/12/2021 13:11

I take Greek yoghurt and fruit with me.

IcedAbstinente · 29/12/2021 13:11

I used to be on a 6 am train so was up at 5.15.

I took a ham or cheese sandwich with me to eat on the train.

insancerre · 29/12/2021 13:14

I leave the house at around 7 and just have a cup of coffee
I then have my lunch at 11
