So I got one for Christmas Grin
Tell me what you cook in yours?

My friend makes the best jacket spuds so I’m looking forward to those!
Can I cook burgers in them?

I have been reading recipes online but hoping you lovely people will have some good ideas

I got one too! I can’t wait to make fake KFC style chicken and chicken katsu curry without having to fill a frying pan with oil

It's one of the best purchases we've ever made. You can definitely do burgers, roast potatoes, fish fingers, heat up pies, sausages etc. The list is pretty much endless.

We use it for a lot of things that otherwise oven would be used for. Takes no time to heat up, quicker and less 'smelly'

Shouldofgotahamster85 · 28/12/2021 19:36

@MiamiBeach104 what do you base cooking times on? As per the oven or do you adjust?

We usually do only half the time based n over instructions. We did camembert. Instructions said 20min in the oven but 10 min in the air fryer (temperature as per packet instructions) were fine. Also the booklet it came with is useful

Burned garlic bread Blush

I desperately want an air fryer, but I want one that can dehydrate as well.

MaryAndGerryLivingInDerry · 28/12/2021 19:45

I got one a month ago and I love it but my DC both claim it removes the taste from everything, and then when I mentioned it to my mum (who got me the air fryer for Xmas and asked how I was getting on with it) my dad piped up with “I agree- it does take the taste out of everything.” So I haven’t been using it as my DC are refusing to eat anything that’s cooked in it. Sad

Toasted sandwiches with lovely thick slices of bread. You do need to put half a toothpick in each corner to stop the top slice flying off. Turn after 5 minutes.

Sausages mmmm

ThePontiacBandit · 28/12/2021 20:26

I love mine so much! I have an instant pot duo crisp. I thought the novelty would wear off but it still hasn’t 18 months on.
We mostly cook chips and bacon in it but we do all sorts - potatoes, waffles, turkey drummers Smile
ShinySquirrel the instant pot has a dehydrater.

We've just ordered the ninja 15 in 1, God knows what we are going to make!

hilariousnamehere · 28/12/2021 20:33

Perfectly timed thread, my original actifry has just died and it's my most used bit of kitchen kit!

What would you guys recommend as the best replacement?!

OP - everything from chips to stir fries, it's been a game changer for me as I'm a reluctant cook, terrible at meal planning and live alone!

NannyR · 28/12/2021 20:34

Halloumi is great cooked in an airfryer. Sprouts and broccoli are delicious, they stay a nice texture and have a roasted, charred flavour. I found out the other day that you can "boil" eggs in it - I was sceptical but tried it (6 minutes at 160) and they are perfect for dipping soldiers in.

BertieBotts · 28/12/2021 20:36

It's basically a small oven. It does very well at anything you can buy frozen and pre prepared to cook in an oven. Tends to make them crisper and less dried out than a big oven does. That's the only way it's really similar to a deep fryer. The deep fryer will beat it for most things but it's an acceptable trade off IMO for the cleanliness, safety and health as well as not having to deal with loads of dirty oil. It's much cheaper to run than an oven as well.

I looked at lots of reviews and Ninja brand came out top. I bought the smallest version and I've been very happy with it.

BertieBotts · 28/12/2021 20:37

Ooh interesting about the eggs. Do you need to make a pin prick hole?

KittenKong · 28/12/2021 20:39

Haloumi. Marinaded tofu. Chicken legs. Chicken escalopes. Roast potatoes/wedges. Sausages. Apple wedges (with cinnamon).

Yup, I had one last Christmas and used it about five times. Didn’t really get on with it, everything was a bit tasteless and samey. Plus it’s mainly for junk foods. So it lived under the stairs until summer before finding its way out of the house.
RandomMess · 28/12/2021 20:39

Home made chips I'm in heaven.

Mine came with with a cookbook which is good I just Google everything too 🤣

No, I was imagining exploded eggs, but they don't.

hilariousnamehere · 28/12/2021 20:41

Thank you @NannyR :)

MIL bought us an Instant Pot Duo Crisp+ as a gift. I have no interest in using it, and no space in our kitchen to even test it. So it'll be finding its way onto a well-known auction site shortly ...

KittenKong · 28/12/2021 20:46

Heathen!

QueenLagertha · 28/12/2021 20:51

Potato wedges. Splash of oil. Lots of paprika, garlic powder, black pepper, salt. 20 minutes. Yum.

Also do frozen croissants in mine. Only take 8 minutes compared to 20 In the oven
