So I got one for Christmas Grin
Tell me what you cook in yours?

My friend makes the best jacket spuds so I’m looking forward to those!
Can I cook burgers in them?

I have been reading recipes online but hoping you lovely people will have some good ideas

Crikey, that doesn't sound good. ☹️
Did it cause much damage to your worktop?

CovidCorvid · 29/12/2021 11:49

@OhGiveUp

Thanks *@CovidCorvid* can you recommend? What can I cook in it? Sorry for the questions, but I want to be sure that I'm not wasting money 🙂
Yes. It’s really good. You can cook anything which you’d normally fry or oven cook as long as it fits in the basket and isn’t too sloppy that it might fall through the holes. I’ll add a photo
Shedmistress · 29/12/2021 11:49

@AnnaBolina

Mine melted!! Across the back. It was on a worktop, not against a wall, nothing on top of it. It melted! They say it's a malfunction and not usually something that happens but it's worried me about getting another
What was the make and model?

At the moment anything we can as we have no kitchen (borrowed it - not sure I would bother buying one once we have a kitchen again). Have done sausages, meatballs, apple crumble, croissant, part-bake rolls, roast potatoes, nuggets, chips, burgers

CovidCorvid · 29/12/2021 11:51

So fine for one or two portions. You’d probably need a bigger one for a family. You could get 4x chicken breast in. But not enough space for chips for four. Unless you can pile the chips up and they cook ok? I’ve never tried that, just have one layer.

BurbageBrook · 29/12/2021 11:52

It’s not at all only for junk foods as a PP said. We make great roast potatoes, courgettes,
mushrooms, peppers etc in there, the list goes on.

A few scorch type marks from where some plastic dripped, but the whole back has drooped right down and it's frightening really, because they're appliances that get super hot incredibly fast- I guess it really brought it home to me that if something goes wrong with one it could be disastrous faster than you could do anything about it. Like the person who said pop bacon in for 12 minutes and go for a shower. I wouldn't have thought twice about doing that, but I will now if I ever get another one!
AnnaBolina · 29/12/2021 11:53

@Shedmistress it was a ninja dual zone

time2tork · 29/12/2021 11:54

Absolutely anything I can squeeze in it.

Amazing for meat.

OhGiveUp · 29/12/2021 12:05

Thanks @CovidCorvid That's very helpful, there's only me most of the time, sometimes my DH, so that should be plenty big enough.
@AnnaBolina It sounds lucky that that's the only damage, the whole kitchen could have gone up. Do you know if it's a common occurrence with that particular model?

AdaColeman · 29/12/2021 13:03

I've got a Philips AirFryer XL, I've only had it a short while.
Things I've found it does well,
bacon, I wrap it loosely in foil, as I don't like very crispy brittle bacon.
pizza
snacks like samosas, spring rolls, prawn toasts etc
chicken kiev
stuffed mushrooms

Things I'm going to try in it
Roasting a partridge
Roasting cod fillet wrapped in parma ham, salmon fillet in a foil parcel,
Sausages
Yorkshire pudding
Heating up quiche, frittata

I'm going to try warming croissants thanks to this thread.
CovidCorvid mentioned keeping chips in a single layer, the photos in my pamphlet all show a basket filled with chips, plus advice to remove and shake the basket halfway through cooking, but I've not made chips yet so can't be sure.

Shedmistress · 29/12/2021 13:29

I'm hoping I've just had my last cold croissant! Mine is coming on Friday so I'll send the OH over to the boulangerie friday morning and warm mine up when it gets here.

CovidCorvid · 29/12/2021 13:38

@AdaColeman thanks, that’s useful to know that the chips can be piled up…..though maybe dangerous for my waistline. 😀

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 29/12/2021 13:39

@CovidCorvid

I have this one and love it ]]

Not a brand I’d heard of but apparently well known in America. I’d stumbled across an air fryer YouTube channel where the woman has this one and said it was the best she’d had.

I do stuff like chicken breasts, salmon, potatoes, chips. Seems tastier and a nicer texture than oven cooking. Quicker as well.

This is the one we have. Bought it last Christmas I think, we use it nearly every day. As PPs said great for 'beige food' for the teens to do themselves, or toasties (I made a gammon, brie and cranberry panini in mine for lunch today!), bacon, sausages, steaks, chicken portions... Veg like broccoli or Sprouts. Chips I've never managed to get that good, though definitely better than doing in the oven, we have a deep fryer filled with beef dripping for chips Blush Frozen wedges cook much better in the air fryer than the oven.

@middleager

Love my Ninja Dual Airfryer. It's great as it has two drawers. I'm vegetarian, so this helps. It has the rehydrate function to the pp who is interested in this.

Literally it is different to a deep fat fryer.

This week, we have mostly been cooking/heating
Croissants for Christmas breakfast
Roasters
Mince pies
Chicken wings
Jacket pptatoes (microwaved first, then baked).

My teens love it as they just throw something in and it cooks quickly.

I know an air fryer is different to a deep fat fryer! Xmas Grin I was responding to a previous post asking how air fryer food compared to the latter. It sent me on a trail of reminiscence …
mowglika · 29/12/2021 14:31

I have the ninja foodie and I love it. It has a pressure cooker so I make lamb pilau and biryani in mine too. Also salmon and rice cooked together with side bits (recipe from the book)

Any fries come out great in it, and it’s really good at reheating up pizza, comes out crisp instead of soggy from the microwave or dried out from the oven

AdaColeman · 30/12/2021 07:59

@CovidCorvid

Have a look at your basket, it may well have a “Fill” line marked, mine has.
Enjoy those chip sandwiches!
