Pre eclampsia, do you have to have all symptoms?

Evening all, so the past 2 days my right side (mainly leg, foot and hand) have swollen quite a lot. Worried about pre eclampsia but don’t seem to have any headaches, visual disturbances etc, does anyone know if you can get pre eclampsia with just swelling as a symptom?

Yes this can be pre eclampsia. Please call triage/labour ward and get checked out.

PivotPivotPivottt · 27/12/2021 21:44

I had no symptoms at all it was only discovered after a blood test because I had some protein in my urine at a check up.

StickBadge · 27/12/2021 21:47

Yes, I didn't have headaches or visual disturbances. Please get it checked out.

I also had no symptoms I could spot myself like @PivotPivotPivottt it was a blood test that revealed it

There are very few medical conditions where most people get ALL the symptoms

Not worth taking any chances it can still have VERY serious consequences for mother and baby so do see someone asap

happytoday73 · 27/12/2021 21:52

You need to be checked out. It can progress quite quickly from 1 symptom...

Have you a blood pressure monitor you can borrow? Just useful info.
How significant is the swelling

Temple29 · 27/12/2021 21:52

Definitely get it checked. I had preeclampsia in my first pregnancy and went for a check up in my second pregnancy with no symptoms. Baby was delivered a few hours later because my BP was high and protein in my urine.

Rrrob · 27/12/2021 21:53

I didn’t have any symptoms apart from feeling odd. I went to MAU and was admitted until DTs were born. Definitely call them

abbs1 · 27/12/2021 22:01

Please get checked tonight hun. Headache and rib pain is when its getting bad. Swelling is one of the first signs. Labour ward/triage can check for protein in your urine, your blood pressure and do a blood test.

Please dont wait. I had it previous pregnancy had swelling for a few weeks not too bad and then at 37 weeks I had some protein in my urine and slightly raised BP at hospital in the afternoon after routine apt and by 7pm the horrendous headache and rib pain began and i was rushed in and induced with pre eclampsia.

Not to scare you hun but please get checked. If its not too bad they can sometimes treat it before needing to get baby out.
This pregnancy im on weekly checks in case I get it again.

I hope you’ve called by now, they’d rather see you than have a problem they could have fixed.

Nocutenamesleft · 27/12/2021 22:07

I didn’t have swelling. I just felt off

Few weeks later my baby was born premature and had severe iUGR.

I ended up with a bleed in the brain from too high blood pressure.

boomboomboom123 · 27/12/2021 22:22

The only symptom I had was swelling so I would go in just to have a quick check on your blood pressure. Better to be sure.

xxkellsbellsxx · 27/12/2021 22:25

Just did blood pressure it’s currently 158/98 😯 ring hospital, in the car on the way there now x

Glad you're going.

I had some slight swelling and that was the only symptom I had, which seemed to surprise everyone as I kept being asked if I was sure.

abbs1 · 27/12/2021 23:15

Wishing you best of luck OP. Let us know how you get on x

xxkellsbellsxx · 27/12/2021 23:34

Waiting to see dr now, protein showing in urine so it looking good so far x

Mogwaimummy · 27/12/2021 23:36

I hope you're OK OP.

I was rushed in myself with pre-eclampsia. It's scary but you're in the best place. Try and relax and rest as much as possible.

MuchTooTired · 27/12/2021 23:45

I hope you’re ok op.

I only had swelling and called triage on the off chance (was 36+2 with twins and was looking for any excuse to have them!). Got called in, ended up diagnosed with severe pe and left the hospital 5 days later with my newborn DTs Xmas Grin

xxkellsbellsxx · 28/12/2021 02:39

Being kept in over night, blood pressure is still high even after medication, hopefully will know more when blood and urine results come back

zebrapig · 28/12/2021 08:48

Hope you're ok OP. Glad you got checked out, the more severe symptoms can come on quite quickly.

abbs1 · 28/12/2021 09:10

So glad you went in and got checked out. If you feel any other symptoms let them know straight away. I hope all goes well and the medication works x

MajorCarolDanvers · 28/12/2021 09:12

The only symptoms I had was 2 swollen fingers. I never had anything else.

boomboomboom123 · 28/12/2021 09:35

Hope you are ok OP you've done the right thing going in so try to rest now as you are in the best place.

Brogues · 28/12/2021 10:25

I’m glad you’ve gone in. I had no symptoms until a partial abruption.

Temple29 · 28/12/2021 13:13

Hope all is well OP.

cannaethink · 28/12/2021 13:41

I’m glad you got checked!
I had horrendous swelling so had weekly midwife appointments to check for protein in my urine. The midwife said without that then it’s not pre eclampsia. She said she’d never seen such bad swelling in someone without pre eclampsia Blush
