Is it very painful to get your nose pierced? Would like someone to share experiences! I'd love to do it. But I'm nervous!

Yes but it passes. I got my nose pierced when I was about 20 I'm 42 no regrets. I really want a ring in it now

leotardrock · 27/12/2021 15:23

I had mine done about 30 years ago with a piecing gun, very painful like I'd been punched on the nose!
I'd have it done with a needle at a proper Piercing place and I'm sure it will be fine!

VanCleefArpels · 27/12/2021 15:24

My adult DD had it done earlier in the year / she is a wuss for pain and didn’t find it too bad. However she has been plagued by infections of the site that come and go - very unsightly, and she’s in the verge of giving up with it

Mine was with a needle I don't think it was like being punched you poor thing! Hurts a lot more than ears tjough
SilverHairedCat · 27/12/2021 15:28

No modern and competence piercer will touch your nose with a gun - they could shatter the cartilage. I know it used to be normal, but the industry is hopefully more professional now! Don't go to the likes of Claires, Lovisa, H Samuel etc - go to a proper piercing studio.

It'll make you wince, maybe make your eye water a bit, then it's over. I've had mine done 3 times (long story) and it always makes me swear once, then I'm fine!

Arsewangry · 27/12/2021 15:29

Definitely shouldn't be done with a gun!! I'm 38 nearly 39 and had mine done with a needle last Christmas and I love it! I won't lie it hurt like a bitch when the needle went through and certainly made my eyes water but when it was finished it was fine.

Usernameisgone · 27/12/2021 15:32

I had it done last year. Hurt for about 10mins.

BackBackBack · 27/12/2021 15:33

Go to a proper piercing studio who will do it with a blade which has been through an autoclave.

It will sting for a few seconds and make your eyes water but it's over very quickly.

pastypirate · 27/12/2021 15:37

Yep horrified by it being done with a gun!!

Pp with daughter with infections - it dies take a while to settle. I found using a stud that's fixed in opposed to the L shaped ones which you can remove completely stopped the infections.

NewYorkDiamond · 27/12/2021 15:38

DD said it hurt more than her lobes or helix piercings but was over quickly and the aftercare/soreness has actually been better than any of her others. I was worried she'd find it intrusive being able to feel something in her nose but she says she can't feel it unless she moves it, she's coped with it much better than I feared. Her eyes watered a bit when the needle went in but it was really quick and she was fine as soon as the jewellery was in place.

VanCleefArpels · 27/12/2021 15:38

@pastypirate she’s got a ring - reluctant to change it for any kind of stud 🤷🏻‍♀️

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 27/12/2021 15:46

Just made my eyes water. I was about 13ish when I had mine done. Nearly 20 years ago now. I did have to re-do it when I was around 18.

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 27/12/2021 15:48

I had mine done about 15 years ago. It was about 5 seconds of the worst pain imaginable, then it was absolutely fine. It's never become infected nor begun to heal over - and I do tend to leave the stud out for several weeks at a time. Don't regret it at all.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 27/12/2021 15:51

Yes, it hurt more than any of my tattoos.
However it's over and done with fast and then fades away. Just be brave

janicewheeler · 27/12/2021 15:54

I've had mine done three times. Twice with a gun, I'm 32 now and was about 14 at the time. Third time with a needle mid 20's. Both hurt to be honest but the needle is safer. Eyes will water but it's over in seconds.

LivingOnTheVeg · 27/12/2021 16:00

I’ve had 15 piercings and I’ve got a high pain tolerance, but my nose piercing didn’t half make my eyes water! Definitely the worst I’ve had out of any piercing/tattoo, but it only lasts a few seconds really.

noideabutstilltrying · 27/12/2021 16:08

I've had mine done with a needle every time. I had it done years ago and couldn't get the jewellery back in after an op.

I've currently got a double nose piercing.

If you get it pierced in the correct spot and use titanium jewellery it doesn't hurt after the initial piercing

The piercing pain goes very quickly x

wonderpants · 27/12/2021 16:17

I've had my nose pierced several times. The last time was relatively painless, a very skilled piercer! The time before, it was too slow with the needle! Felt it pop through both sides! 🤮
If you are near Manchester, highly recommend holier than thou- I will always go there now!

murasaki · 27/12/2021 16:43

Definitely needle, doesn't hurt at all.. I had a gun the first time, and it was wonky. That didn't hurt either, but to be fair I was at a festival....having let it close and then getting it redone in a proper parlour, the guy knew instantly that it had previously been done with a gun.

murasaki · 27/12/2021 16:44

And yes to titanium. No allergy worries, unlike nickel for me.

FindingMeno · 27/12/2021 16:45

Yes it hurts.

icedcoffees · 27/12/2021 16:46

No, not at all. I've had mine done for over ten years now - but definitely go to a proper piercing parlour where they'll use a fresh needle. Never get it done with a gun.

I just wear a small diamond stud in mine. It healed really quickly and I pretty much forget it's there now.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 27/12/2021 16:49

Mine was a gun and it felt like when you get a football to the nose. It’s over quick though.

Purplecatshopaholic · 27/12/2021 16:49

Had mine done with a needle about two years ago - makes your eyes water a bit, but no biggie. Didn’t hurt after and healed really well. Go for it

Somethingsnappy · 27/12/2021 17:33

Thank you for all the responses! I'm very glad I asked, because I had no idea about the gun/needle thing.

It's a shame about the PP whose daughter has had lots of infections. How have others found that side of things?

Any recommendations for a place to have it done in the Midlands area?
