I am, totally. I love Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It has many layers of family significance for us. If I'm bored, depressed or stressed I will always listen to the soundtrack and feel better. I've seen it do many times in done many theatres, performed in ut, been the director as a teacher, watched my dad direct it when he was a teacher. Nothing else comes close!

I don't think there's a musical I don't love but obsession is a big word. I did go through a huge Spring Awakening phase, where I listened to the soundtrack on repeat for weeks if not months. That's probably the closest I've been to outright obsession.

whoknew23 · 27/12/2021 00:26

Wicked is my favourite

DotBall · 27/12/2021 00:33

I love Chicago. Great songs.

Not one particular musical, but In the Heights and West Side Story are my absolute favourite movies of the year.

I really wanted to see them again on the big screen but all my friends and family have said a resounding "No, I don't like musicals!"

I've now found one friend who loves them and we're seeing WSS again at an IMAX this week, yay!!

cikecaka · 27/12/2021 01:36

Op Joseph and Six are my favourites as well!
Have seen Joseph a few times, ( also did the musical at school) Had heard the six soundtrack due to my daughter but we eventually got to see it in September and it was amazing

Onthedunes · 27/12/2021 01:49

West Side Story.

Leonard Bernstein bloody genius.

I'm obsessed with the beetlejuice musical soundtrack and hope to see it now it's going to be back on Broadway.

TravellingSpoon · 27/12/2021 08:03

I love Evita. I often listen to the soundtrack when I am at home or in the car. I have seen it several times and am going again in Feb (Covid permitting). It makes me so happy, and also so sad all at the same time.

Okbye · 27/12/2021 08:13

Seeing Les Mis on Broadway was one of my favourite life experiences!

AMAZING!

Clawdy · 27/12/2021 08:28

I know the storyline is very flawed now, but I went to see the film of "Carousel " when I was about nine, and came out at the end sobbing so much my dad didn't know what to do! I've seen it live twice since, and each time ended in floods of tears.

frustrateddotcodotuk · 27/12/2021 09:03

Over rated for me was Phantom, Chicago, and (dare I say it!) Lion King

ivfbabymomma1 · 27/12/2021 09:13

Joseph is mine too! I've been able to reel off the colours of his coat since I was 6! 🤣🤣 I've also been in it twice! Wicked is also up there!

MrsFionaCharming · 27/12/2021 11:48

Omg, thank you so much to those who said about the Regents Park Legally Blonde.

I’m about 4 hours from London, but that seems completely reasonable given how desperate I’ve been to see it!

Off to tell DH what I want for my birthday 🥳

LadyLindaT · 27/12/2021 11:54

"In the Heights" for me.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 27/12/2021 12:14

Oh I loved In the Heights! So under rated!

DopesickSis · 27/12/2021 13:16

Love many of those mentioned already. Pre-pandemic I was an avid theatre goer and saw many shows more than once.

But my all-time absolute favourite that I will go to see whenever it is staged is The Last Five Years by the wonderful Jason Robert Brown. If you haven't seen the movie version then you have really missed out as Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick are both great.

I was lucky enough to see JRB in concert in London once, playing his own music with lots of special guests appearing to sing his songs. The best show ever!

WeaverofWords · 27/12/2021 13:29

My DD was absolutely enraptured by Hairspray for many, many years. I kind of became obsessed by proxy, but when I was a teenager it was Joseph and also The Sound of Music (I guess more musical film than theatre). My kids work in theatre now, and we’ve seen so many of these… both are obsessed (more than “fond”) by musicals! Niche.

OldHip · 27/12/2021 17:27

West Side Story is on rn.

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 27/12/2021 18:56

@DriveInSaturday

I love Cabaret, both film and stage shows. Tomorrow Belongs To Me gives me the utter chills in the film. Just the benign nodding along of the older mum/grandma followed by the creeping malevolence. I find myself humming it for days after watching it.

I love musicals. I go in all meh after a hard days work and come out weeping or grinning. Blissful.

Creamcrackersandricecakes · 27/12/2021 20:10

I love love love musicals. Les Mis will always be my number 1, (it was my first West End show, aged 11), but there's very few I've seen and not enjoyed. We adored Six - managed to see it in the summer after being obsessed with the soundtrack for ages and it was phenomenal. Saw Bat Out Of Hell twice during its run - it definitely helps if you're a Meatloaf fan, but there's loads to enjoy even if you're not. It is totally bonkers though!
Cabaret I also love, Phantom, The Lion King, Joseph, Hairspray and Little Shop of Horrors also firm favourites. And Rocky Horror of course!
We have tickets to see The Book of Mormon on Wednesday and I can't wait - I'm just praying it's not cancelled 🤞🤞. DD is also off to see Hamilton with my sister in April - I am v envious as I loved it on Disney+ and the soundtrack is never off my Spotify.

AlaskaThunderfuckHiiiiiiiii · 27/12/2021 20:12

Phantom of the opera 😍 goosebumps every time and she should have chosen phantom

Redannie118 · 27/12/2021 20:16

Rocky Horror has been the soundtrack to my life since i was 15 years old. Ive introduced it to my adult kids and been to see both the theatre and cinema version many many times. Every time you go its different and the fans are amazing, so warm, friendly and funny. I love ALW stuff( esp phantom) but nothing comes close to Rocky in terms of how immersive it is.

SlapBet · 27/12/2021 20:22

When I was 20 I was obsessed with Rent! Soundtrack on repeat in car, could watch the filmed lived on Broadway DVD every day. I like a lot of musicals but none came close until I discovered Hamilton summer 2020. I’m not as bad as I was at the peak listening to it nonstop but I don’t think I could ever get sick of it.

potoforchids · 27/12/2021 21:51

Wicked is my absolute favourite. Also love Little Shop of Horrors, Fidler on the Roof, Oliver.

Also, Colm Wilkinson in Les Mis is one of the best things I've ever seen
