I am, totally. I love Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It has many layers of family significance for us. If I'm bored, depressed or stressed I will always listen to the soundtrack and feel better. I've seen it do many times in done many theatres, performed in ut, been the director as a teacher, watched my dad direct it when he was a teacher. Nothing else comes close!

Rocky horror picture show. I go every time it's in town.

Closely followed by fame as I wanted wanted to go to stage/dance school.

I love Joseph, it's by far my favourite musical! Smile

Not sure where you’re based @MrsFionaCharming but Legally Blonde is going to be on at the Regents Park open air theatre this year.

dontticklethetoad · 26/12/2021 21:00

I find it hard to pick favourites (for anything) but currently have Hamilton, Six and Dear Evan Hanson (haven't seen DEH yet) playing on a loop Smile

Titsywoo · 26/12/2021 21:08

I couldn't choose between Phantom and Les Mis - both just incredible. I like some of the newer stuff like Mamma Mia but saw it once and wouldn't bother again - same with Lion King etc. They are fun but they don't make the hairs stand up on the back of my neck or make me feel emotional just through the music.

Monkeytennis97 · 26/12/2021 21:12

West Side Story (number 1- undoubtedly the best!)
Candide
The Sound of Music

@Mull

Got obsessed with Hamilton during first lockdown when it was released on Disney+. Still listen to the soundtrack all the time. I’m not sure I could see it live though, it just wouldn’t live up to my expectations!
It would. It blew me (us all) away.
AFingerofFudge · 26/12/2021 21:19

Am totally obsessed with Blood Brothers- my absolute no 1.
Come from Away is also pretty amazing!

Pinkflipflop85 · 26/12/2021 21:25

@MrsFionaCharming

Currently Legally Blonde. I’m devastated it’s no longer on and I’ve never seen it 😭
Legally blonde is being revived for the Summer series at Regents Park open air theatre.

I saw it years ago with Sheridan Smith and it was so wonderfully camp and fun!

I know...Hamilton

I am with you OP. It is my favourite musical and many happy hours singing along to it growing up. I have taken my dd to see it (and seen it many times before). It is great.

@Bralessandfree

When I was 16 I was obsessed with The Phantom of the Opera. Everyone else was listening to Blur or Oasis or Nirvana...I was listening to Michael Crawford. Hmm
There was a great radio documentary on R2 today. It was fascinating. You can find it on BBC Sounds I'm sure.
RainCloude · 26/12/2021 21:31

I can watch LaLa Land over and over and love the music!

falalalalalalablahblah · 26/12/2021 21:33

Six is just incredible. A perfect musical. Les Mis in joint first place.

The Lion King is almost a once in a lifetime event for me (although I've been 3 times). It's the most incredible thing.

Snoopsnoggysnog · 26/12/2021 21:34

Not stage shows but the sound of music and South Pacific for me.

User135792468 · 26/12/2021 21:36

The Book of Mormon and My Fair Lady which I loved as a child

Chunkymenrock · 26/12/2021 21:39

Does everyone have to be obsessed these days? Is no one simply fond of anything any more?

Finally managed to see it live last week. It was amazing!
EsmeraldaFudge · 26/12/2021 21:45

Hamilton blows any musical out of the water
Six is great but it's not anywhere near Hamilton

KatieKat88 · 26/12/2021 21:46

SiX is also my most played on amazon music this year - praying that theatres are open for when we have tickets for the tour as I haven't seen it in person! Even DD(2) says 'good one' after one of the songs finishes in the car Grin
I can sing most of the songs from Hamilton word for word. That has taken a lot of effort and I am rightfully proud of this fact! It was incredible when I saw it in London (twice!) and I'd love to see it again. Also loved it on Disney+ so need to rewatch soon to get my fix.

Titsywoo · 26/12/2021 21:53

I'm sure it is different live on stage but I tried to watch Hamilton when it was on Disney Plus last year and was bored out of my mind within 20 mins and gave up before I got to half an hour.

Whattodo121 · 26/12/2021 21:54

Aw have found my people! I love playing in shows, watching shows, talking about shows and definitely get hooked on ones I really like. Top ones include:
Hamilton - obv - have seen it three times in the west end and been backstage. Is a phenomenal piece of theatre and you notice new things every time you go.
Six - I loved it live, the upbeat songs are great, the ballads less so when you listen to the soundtrack
A Chorus Line - (stage show not film) completely immersive - it feels real
Come from Away - saw it last month and loved it
Chess - I love the music - it’s fab and so much fun to play.

SpookyScarySkeletons · 26/12/2021 21:55

Well it looks like I have found my people!! My first album as a child was an Andrew Lloyd Webber tape.

Love love love phantom of the opera and cats. Also I think I may have mild PTSD after seeing Ghost. Bloody hell my heart was broken! There was a moment of silence and all the rest of the theatre could hear was me and my friend trying not to cry!

Fantasmic143 · 26/12/2021 21:58

Daughter and I have seen Prince of Egypt 4 times since July and are hopefully going to the final show on 8th Jan (she is hoping Stephen Schwartz (composer) will be on stage at the end!). It is so powerful with an amazing cast / staging / choreography / soundtrack. Totally recommend. It will be out as a DVD in due course as was being recorded by Universal a couple of weeks ago when we were there!
