Do you have any goals for 2022?

SarahJessicaParker1 · 26/12/2021 10:39

I don't want to make resolutions necessarily (as I always break them)!

But I have a few goals in mind. Might even make a little bullet journal type thing to try to achieve them.

Wonder if other people are doing the same

@Animood

I've got a good one!

I'm going to have a no phone in bed rule. I'm going to get an alarm clock and leave my phone in the kitchen to charge overnight.

I wish I had the guts to do this but I keep thinking what if I miss an Emergency?! Plus my video camera monitor for my LO's bedroom is an app on my phone so I won't be able to check on him.. and I use my phone as a torch light if he needs me during the night .. am I making excuses?!Blush

Ooh yes I do! I never used to do new year's resolutions, until 2020 when, I kid you not, I vowed to do less... a couple of months later the pandemic came and helped me out with that one!

And to think people have been unfairly blaming poor pangolins for all this, when it should have been you on the front pages...

TwoBigNoisyBoys · 26/12/2021 22:53

Yes, to beat the bastard cancer I was diagnosed with 2 months ago today 😕

I also want to improve my mental health and resilience. I’ve already started counselling to try to address this as well as other issues I’ve had since childhood.

I want to try and maintain some kind of fitness…I lost a stone and a half last summer and was going to the gym 3 times a week, but that all fell apart 2 months ago. I can’t go to the gym anymore because of infection risk, and my anxiety has meant I have been really inactive and this combined with the steroids I have during chemotherapy have now undone all of my hard work.

I also want to try to use the time I’m off sick productively - I’m not working now and have had to suspend my degree studies but I do want to use this time in a productive way.

Kenwouldmixitup · 26/12/2021 22:53

Sustain - I have started some really good things - weight loss, walking to work - 5 mile round trip, eating well, preparing to do an MA - good study habits. If I have sustained these things throughout the year, that would be so good.

So my OH said what about an emergency too. But the thing is I've had a mobile phone for 23 years now. I've not had an emergency that I've needed to know about during the night. So I'm just going to go with it.

You could always get a pay as you go sim card, then put it in an old phone and leave it in your bedside table.
SparkleWhale · 26/12/2021 23:16

I'm going to lose three stone.
I'm going to create a morning routine.
I'm going to try yoga.
I'm going to grow my hair out without cutting or bleaching it.
I'm doing a low buy January.
I'm going to buy a super king bed and luxuriously lay in it every night.

Ruralbliss · 26/12/2021 23:17

Thanks for this thread.

I'm going to move house hopefully very soon as have been under offer since July then be three hours richer each day due to zero commute and with that I will exercise and read/study/volunteer. The petrol money saved will be saved for a new second hand Fiat 500 which will be my 50th birthday to myself.

I can't bloody wait.

mommydragonn · 26/12/2021 23:25

I will be coming out of 2021, 40 Pounds heavier and with a horrible harassing abusive neighbour in the tow, who has made my WFH life a hell. I am also several family and friends lighter as they probably used the last year or so to re-evaluate their relationships and I was pushed to the bottom of the pecking order. I need to learn to live with out these people and also live with patience as hopefully in 2023 horrible neighbour will sell up and move. I think my main focus will be to lose weight but already to me, the next year will have a very bleak start. Brew

FrenchFancie · 27/12/2021 06:51

I like the idea of a word, I need to come up with something that resonates. I know 2022 is going to be a challenging year - we are moving back to the uk after 6 1/2 years living overseas, but we both need to find jobs, a home and a new school for DD when international travel is tricky to say the least! We don’t even have an area is the UK in mind yet (DH needs to get a job first as he’s the main earner).
I’m starting the year overweight and sluggish and feeling frumpy. I have doubts that I will be able to get a job looking like this lol! (I don’t look professional, I’m not sure I would employ me!) I’ve been working outside of my profession for the last few years and I need to decide if I going to go back to it or stick to what I’ve been doing (paid a pittance but I love it, vs better paid but I keep having anxiety dreams about going back).

I think my word should be ‘change’ so I embrace the change rather than hiding from it!!

@andpeggy1

Get pregnant, stay pregnant, give birth to a healthy baby,
This.
MrsDThomas · 27/12/2021 07:23

Every January i have a Facebook clearance. That feels good.

This year im gonna look after myself better. I exercise-run and walk- but i need toning up. Im not as flexible as i was, i have sciatica, my bum cheek always hurts. So some yoga, and weights and I already have a mat and weights at home.

I thought i drank enough water but I don’t really. So crack on with that and eat healthier foods. More veg, add fruit to the diet (I’m not a fruit kinda girl but i do like it but just dont buy it!)

And clear my cards. Cleared one before Christmas, another one in june and last one in November. All on 0%.

CoverYourselfInChocolateGlory · 27/12/2021 07:25

@Pinkflipflop85

My goal is to look after myself better. I've really neglected myself over the past 2 years and need to change that. Next year will be lots of small goals to build up to the big goal.
This is my goal exactly. Life has been very busy and stressful for the last few years and I've worked incredibly hard to take care of other people and completely neglected myself. I'm overweight, unfit and totally out of touch with my own needs. I would like to be a bit more selfish in 2022. DH fully supports this, which is nice! Grin
Cherryana · 27/12/2021 07:27

My word is Shine

Health: I am going to lose a stone.
Challenge: I am going to start my masters and learn some new things
Relaxing:
I am going to read a fiction book a month
I am going to do ‘no phone Sunday’

I am

Silkieschickens · 27/12/2021 07:29

Not normally a goal setter for New Year but got diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer early November so have to now get through treatment in 2022, have already had mastectomy but will definitely need radiotherapy and hormone tablets for years, may be more surgery as well and chemotherapy. Xmas Sad

Also need to exercise more which helps and stay in touch with the lovely fellow cancer sufferers I am meeting as we battle though this together. Plus dental trearment and covid vaccines.

Getting my eldest through her gcse year and supporting my youngest who is autistic and pretty much mute, whilst trying to avoid covid so my treatment does not get delayed for ages.

Hopefully a holiday in there in the summer where we will see puffins, think will have to be in UK, due to cancer and covid rules though if there is also chance to safely go abroad without paying several thousand in insurance which fits into treatment will take it. Have booked a week in Scottish Borders self catering and should hopefully get to Seahouses from there as well as Edinburgh.

Resting on pink fleece lined recliner under fleece duvet looking out after thatched roof with birds singing as much as possible and also very grateful to my amazing husband, kids, cat, silkies and indoor rabbit.

Agadorsparticus · 27/12/2021 07:34

Improve my health by eating well and exercising more. Cut down on alcohol consumption.

Second goal is to pass 3 more exams on my professional qualification.

Last year I successfully quit vaping and I passed 3 exams.

My word is focus
I'm going to put my mind to losing 2 stone or more
If I power through my course I can be applying for my dream job by September so I'm going to put all I have into doing it well
Have the courage to politely bit firmly take a step back from the things that have been dragging me down
Stop comparing myself to others and focus on my own good points and achievements

About10thusername · 27/12/2021 09:02

Mine is an advertisement slogan and has helped me in life before - 'just do it':

  • new job
  • complete current writing project for submission
  • start 2 new writing projects
  • decorate 3 rooms
  • new patio
  • 2 10k runs
  • drink less wine (stick with the gin!)
WhatTheySaid · 27/12/2021 09:16

My goals are
To pass my driving test
To save something, even a small amount every month
To lose a stone
To read one book a month

I'm going to set a reminder in my phone for the beginning of March so I can assess how it's going and do that every couple of months

TeacupDrama · 27/12/2021 16:01

"Balance"

that means financially saving is as important as spending after essentials are paid for, I want to retire early
a better balance between work and life I work from home and it is too easy to leave things till later which eats into evening so definitely a time cut off for both work and the DIY that means we stop and have time out; my own goal is nothing after 8pm 4-5 days a week at least
one late night is an activity for me and one is for DD she occasionally has something late another night. I need to properly wind down in order to sleep I have chronic fatigue so proper rest is essential my aim is 8pm-8am not all sleeping, sleep is normally 11.30-6.30 if i'm lucky
better balancing of everyone in family and friends wants ( not needs) I do not come last all the time

TowandaForever · 31/12/2021 00:07

@duvetdayforeveryone

A helpful YouTube video from Lavendaire which can help plan your new year goals.

That was really helpful. Thank you for posting it.
Giggorata · 31/12/2021 01:23

I'm going to work towards a healthy old age, now that I'm retired.
In practice, this will mean more exercise and growing a lot of fruit and vegetables.

I will get hold of a builder somehow, somewhere to do some renovations. (Where are they all?)

I might be one of the few people who will need to do less reading. I can get stuck in a book all day, if I'm not disciplined.

I will do more creative writing and look into LARP.

SunscreenCentral · 31/12/2021 01:48

This is the year I start chucking money into AVCs

This is the year that I stare down the barrel of my issues with drinking

This is the year I move physically for 30 minutes each day

GTAlogic · 31/12/2021 01:57

Big loan will be paid off in Aug 22 so hopefully by Jan 23 the biggest majority of my credit card will also be paid off.

I will do as much paid work as much as possible.

I will do more photography and build up a bit of a library of images that I can use in composite works.

I will make more of my own clothes where possible.

I will lose some of my excess weight.
