Do you have any goals for 2022?

I don't want to make resolutions necessarily (as I always break them)!

But I have a few goals in mind. Might even make a little bullet journal type thing to try to achieve them.

Wonder if other people are doing the same

To run a half marathon every month (assuming I don't get into London marathon through the ballot)

To look after myself and start taking a bit more pride in my appearance - For years I tie my hair back and never wear make-up etc. Fed up of being frumpy TBH.

I need to concentrate on my mental health and well-being so I’ve looked at what works for me.
Daily:Yoga or dance, Reading, Art and daily fresh air.

I would also like to stop smoking, lose my belly and restart French practice but I’m worried about overwhelming myself! I know stopping smoking is the most important.

Oblomov21 · 26/12/2021 19:52

No. I don't think I've ever had a goal.

For the french, have you tried:

www.duolingo.com

It is free and you can set how many minutes you want to do a day.

@Helpstopthepain See above post

Helpstopthepain · 26/12/2021 19:56

@duvetdayforeveryone yes! I was doing really well but work got busy and it got put aside. I’m determined to start again!

I'm late 50's and a keen road cyclist. Thinking of sitting myself a challenge of doing triathlons next year...but...I don't like running and hate swimming in cold water. Grin

Itchinscratchin · 26/12/2021 20:29

I am also liking the ‘word’ theme and am going to use the word ‘action’.
Currently living a bit of a half-life due to my mental health and there are some clear actions that may improve things, which I have been putting off for years. So to begin with, I will arrange to have some counselling.

onemorerose · 26/12/2021 20:35

I’m going to stop drinking in January and look at where that takes me.

How about one of those big cycling races? There used to be one from London which came through Surrey. Used to watch it as they closed half my town for it!

My goal is to read more classics. That's pretty much it.

Cactuslove · 26/12/2021 20:44

I am doing he same as you OP. I've used the notes in my phone so I can keep reminding myself. I have 2 boys (1 and 3), I separated with my ex 6 months ago after finding out he cheated on my when i was pregnant with our youngest. Anyhow.... 2022 is a year for me I've decided! I'm going to go swimming once a week and start eating healthier and actually looking after myself. I'm thinking of buying some new makeup and I'm going to try and regularly get my hair done. I know this all sounds a bit self obsessed but I've lost who I was and I suppose I'm trying to develop into a new me!

EssexLioness · 26/12/2021 20:46

Just popping back on the post to say pleased so many of you love the ‘word’ idea. I read it online a few years ago and it really resonated with me. Glad others find it helpful too

GoodMorningMillicent · 26/12/2021 20:53

I’ve realised that I only ever achieve a New Year’s resolution if I only make one that year. 2014 it was give up smoking. In 2020, it was to give up alcohol. For 2021, it was get a better job. I achieved all of those, whereas every other year I’ve made too many plans in a bloody notebook and not really achieved anything.

So I think the trick for me is to keep it simple and focused. This year I’m going to get fit.

duvetdayforeveryone · 26/12/2021 20:57

A helpful YouTube video from Lavendaire which can help plan your new year goals.

BooksAndGin · 26/12/2021 21:01

Give up smoking.
This is the year I'm going to achieve it after stopping and starting over the past 15 years. Going to be hard though as DH is a smoker but determined to do it for my DC.

Paddingtonthebear · 26/12/2021 21:03

Socialise and see friends more. Have become unconsciously reclusive since covid Blush

SagelyNodding · 26/12/2021 21:06

Small goal is learning to crochet or knit! I'm left-handed and not very good at following instructions in general, but I've made a start and I intend to continue!
Added plus is that I'll spend less time on my phone as my hands will be busy...
I'd like to get back into running too !

greatape · 26/12/2021 21:07

I think my word may be balance

I feel quite hemmed in by my job and it takes over everything - my well-being, my time with my kids, my husband, my brain space.

I stress eat and am either 'good' by eating f all or 'bad' by eating all the shite. I do the same with exercise.

I'd like to get my balance back. This means doing something physical like yoga or walking daily but not signing up to some extreme plan that I can't do. Eat tasty healthy food in reasonable portions. Don't get hung up on losing the 3 stone I need to but focus on nurturing myself and trusting it will come.

Not working 13 hours every day. No one dies if I don't. Put some boundaries in place.

I would say stop reading Harry Potter fanfic but it makes me happy ;)

dudsville · 26/12/2021 21:32

Ooh yes I do! I never used to do new year's resolutions, until 2020 when, I kid you not, I vowed to do less... a couple of months later the pandemic came and helped me out with that one!

I didn't have any last year, but this year I've decided to go for more standard resolutions, move more, drink less, etc. I made a list of 8 qualities (eating, drinking, moving, etc.) I wanted to track, including purchases, I want to be mindful of my spending habits, and "treats" - I don't get on with dieting and calorie courting so I'm just tracking unhealthy choices. I made an easy tick box that's quick to do. I started December 15th and it's been helpful in keeping me from pigging out but also given me time to tweak what I do and don't want to track. I really hope to lose weight, but I'm purposely not weighing in for a long while as I want this to be a lifestyle shift and I know I'll lose momentum of the scales don't cooperate!

PinotPony · 26/12/2021 21:42

I'm going to get lean again... I need to drop a stone to feel comfortable in my skin... this past year the fat has crept on and I need to make a change.

I'm going to get a promotion to Partner at work.

I'm going to do a parachute jump!

TravellingSpoon · 26/12/2021 21:59

Mine is to set up an emergency fund. I live paycheck to paycheck which isn't as bad as it sounds as I am comfortable, but I want to build up an emergency fund for any thing that might come along.

I also want to lose 2 stone.

Ieatmarmite · 26/12/2021 22:01

I have a word of the year too. This year my word is "courage". I want to try some new things, become more assertive and be less afraid of going to new places. I'm making a small amigurami lion to go on my keyring to remind me to have courage.

Animood · 26/12/2021 22:06

I've got a good one!

I'm going to have a no phone in bed rule. I'm going to get an alarm clock and leave my phone in the kitchen to charge overnight.

PigeonPigPie · 26/12/2021 22:08
