Can anyone top my shit presents this year?

I’m a mother of 2, late 30s.
My kids and DH don’t get me anything but this truly doesn’t bother me.

My DM & DS do but they are notoriously bad at buying gifts (no thought, utter tat, occasional regift)
This is what I got:

Size 14 peaky blinders pyjamas (I’m a size 10 and I have never seen the show)

A matalan black pleather hand bag (I have never used a hand bag in my life)

A gigantic woolly itchy looking tartan scarf

Tesco 5 pack of knickers in various ugly patterns

A bottle of Prosecco (I famously hate Prosecco, I call it pisseco and I don’t even drink and form of wine)

I know some may say I’m ungrateful but the level of thought and effort I put into searching for and buying gifts for everyone and I get shit every year.

Bah humbug

You’d already won at the Peaky Blinders pyjamas tbh.
I have seen the show and just - why? Pyjamas?!?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 25/12/2021 15:44

Why don’t your kids and dh get you anything, more importantly?
A conversation needs to be had in the next few days and again in November.

MaybeAMoaner · 25/12/2021 15:44

So so random.

I forgot to add it was all in a carrier bag unwrapped

Would you like a tea bag holder for used tea bags, a spoon rest and a tea towel, from my in-laws. And I don’t drink tea…..

MaybeAMoaner · 25/12/2021 15:46

My DH is absolutely crap at buying presents so I know I’d end up with worse than the above.
But he lets me spend his money so that’s why I let him away with it.

@CurlyMango
Haha I’d swap you as I actually love tea Grin

If I received those gifts, they'd remain in the bag and all be taken to the charity shop Grin

belllsbellsandmorebells · 25/12/2021 15:48

Sorry had to chuckle, they are truly awful presents. I bought my own gifts from Santa this year to pop under the tree.

The worst present for me is to be delivered tomorrow, my DSis already let the cat out the bag.......yet again I will be the proud recipient of a Ted Baker lotion box. I will smile and nod as to not offend the DPs. I'm mid 40s I don't ever use lotions, and Ted Baker makes my skin itch. I have told them repeatedly but every year for the last decade I get these god awful lotion boxes. It genuinely goes in one ear and out the other when my DM sees the bargains in Boots 🤦‍♀️

MonicaGellerBing · 25/12/2021 15:49

My MIL got me a waffle maker. I hate waffles. I got nothing off my DM this year as she declared herself too skint, and I never get anything off DH. So I've been online and ordered myself two bottles of expensive perfume

CoffeeBeansGalore · 25/12/2021 15:53

Stop making the effort with your mum & sis. Next year give them each a Boots 3 for 2 set & a crap Cadbury selection box.
And buy a present for yourself from dh before Christmas. The kids need to see that you deserve a present too.
Merry Christmas Xmas Smile

BlusteringBoobies · 25/12/2021 15:58

I know you probably intended this as lighthearted (and those gifts are rubbish!!) but I'm not sure how your DParents getting you something you don't want is worse than your husband and children getting you nothing at all?

DoctorDonna20 · 25/12/2021 16:01

My sibling sent our mother a book on anger management...
To be honest

DoctorDonna20 · 25/12/2021 16:02

To be honest they have a point

Helpstopthepain · 25/12/2021 16:04

I’ll swap for a phone charger from Dh?

Helpstopthepain · 25/12/2021 16:05

He let’s you spend his money? Is this while you take care of his children?

yorkshireteaspoonie · 25/12/2021 16:07

Wow... you deffo win. Sorry! PJ's sound hideous

RagzReturnedUnwrapped · 25/12/2021 16:08

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel

I got these for DS(14) this year as his Christmas eve pyjamas (from sainsbury). He loves them! Not something I'd buy an adult woman unless she was a huge fan though!
GregTheEgg · 25/12/2021 16:10

There should be a SwapShop thread on here for people to swap their unwanted gifts Grin.

I have not-so-fond memories of my mum in tears about a “shit-brown” jumper my dad bought her one Xmas after she’d expressly said no clothes!

Hairyfriend · 25/12/2021 16:12

Is there are reason your DH and kids dont get you a gift? Do you buy for them?

I got a hand knitted matching hat and scarf in purple- I detest purple! Not knitted by the sender, but bought at a village fayre and clearly knitted by a beginner in a chunky stitch made in nylon!

DH once got a black, nylon balaclava. The type with only eye slits that criminals wear!!! Hmm

Goldbar · 25/12/2021 16:12

Regardless of whether your DH is shit at presents, he should put some effort in and you should have something to unwrap

My DH is also bad at present-buying so he buys me a huge box of my favourite very expensive chocolates that I would never buy myself, likewise alcohol. He doesn't have to be prompted, they just arrive each year and that's good enough for me.

The other gifts are so bad I would seriously consider re-gifting them to the donors next year Wink.

Faevern · 25/12/2021 16:12

Not this year but last year my MiL bought 60 year old me, me a pair of glitter leggings, an itchy woollen jumper and a gold love bullet from Poundland.

Bonbon21 · 25/12/2021 16:14

Next year tell them to donate to charity in your name... somebody might as well benefit!!!

CoastalWave · 25/12/2021 16:14

Well I got nothing!

Could be worse?!

TheMissingMango · 25/12/2021 16:14

Wrong size peaky blunders pyjamas? I'd be wrapping up the lot, ready to regift right back to them next year.

And your DH won't get better at gifts for you unless he starts practising!

Needdoughnuts · 25/12/2021 16:20

Not sure why your dm and dsis are getting the flak. If you put effort into everyone's presents and feel unappreciated I think you should look closer to home
