As we had a thread about rage-inducing celebrities, I thought it might be nice to have a Christmas thread about celebrities we like.

Mine include:
Mary Beard - just herself, focuses on the subject and doesn't care what men say about her
Ian Hislop - been making me laugh at whoever the current Government is for many years.
JK Rowling - not a huge Harry Potter fan, but such a courageous lady.
Emma Raducanu - a recent addition to this list obviously, but so down to earth. Hope she stays this way for her sake.
Johnny Vegas - very grounded, a normal working class man who made it big.
Anita Rani - seems lovely and again down to earth.

Charlie Brooker; He is ace. Agree about Ian Hislop, always hits the nail on the head about whatever the government has done this time.

AdoptedBumpkin · 23/12/2021 15:46

Charlie Brooker, good shout.

JK Rowling - creator of an amazing fantasy world, philanthropist and a strong, brave woman

Dolly Parton - always herself, should never be under estimated, incredible song writer and hugely generous

I adore Steve Backshall and Helen Glover individually and together. They seem so in love with each other and their family and no one can tell me otherwise!

AdoptedBumpkin · 23/12/2021 16:08

@Jayneisagirlsname Thanks - Dolly Parton is one I'd forgotten about.

Jamie Laing from Made in Chelsea. Never watched MIC but I saw him on one of the Bake Offs for charity and I found him very amusing and self deprecating on Richard Osman's House of Games. I thought the banter between him and Mike Wozniak was very funny and I don't know, he just came across as a nice guy.

emmetgirl · 23/12/2021 16:16

Agree on Charlie Booker. Love Sara Pascoe.

BearSoFair · 23/12/2021 16:18

Gwendoline Christie - just seems like great fun. Was also lovely when I met her a few years ago.
Mads Mikkelsen - seems so down to Earth despite being so famous
David Tennant - likewise, seems incredibly down to Earth and have never heard a bad word about him
Frank Turner - have had multiple interactions both online and in person and he's always been lovely. Also dedicated a song to my Nephew years ago when he emailed a photo of a recent tattoo including some lyrics.

notawittyname1954 · 23/12/2021 16:19

Dolly Parton
Olly Alexander

BearSoFair · 23/12/2021 16:20

Oh and Michael Palin! I have a friend who worked for a company he'd regularly order from and she said he'd always ask "How is everybody? What have you all been up to?" and seemed genuinely interested in their responses.

6demandingchildren · 23/12/2021 16:21

George Michael, I think he was gay as I was taken at the time, but he has always been my true love❤

Derrymum123 · 23/12/2021 16:21

Paddy McGuinness never seems to forget his roots. Lovely family.
Henning Wehn always funny and can laugh at himself.
Siobhan McSweeney always looks like she would be a laugh.
Ian Wright-watching him see his teacher, who he thought was dead, makes me cry. Plus the documentary he made about domestic abuse hit a nerve in many ways about the way it was for many in the 60s/70s and still is for lots of people.

PainterInPeril · 23/12/2021 16:22

Amanda Seyfried....she's really warm, friendly and incredibly funny in interviews etc. She also seems very grounded and normal.

TerraNovaTwo · 23/12/2021 16:24

JK Rowling, for sure! Strong and brave.

Maireas · 23/12/2021 16:26

Mike Wozniak
Dev Griffin
Susan Calman
Zoe Lyons

Judge Rinder seems like such a lovely man to me.

It's such a nice idea! I get fed up with negative and unpleasant threads.
Maireas · 23/12/2021 16:41

I agree about Jamie Laing - he was so nice on Strictly, also Richard Osman's House of Games.
Great banter with Wozniak!

midsomermurderess · 23/12/2021 16:44

Jamie Oliver and Minnie Driver. They both come across as pretty sound, down-to-earth types.

AdoptedBumpkin · 23/12/2021 16:44

@Maireas Thanks Smile

@AdoptedBumpkin Xmas Smile you're welcome!
I agree that Judge Rinder seems like a decent man, I know of some of his work with a charity.
Anita Rani I agree with.
Also, Ade Adepitan - a great and well informed presenter. No self pity and a great role model!

PPCD · 23/12/2021 18:28

Simon Farnaby. Even though he usually plays morally dubious characters he seems like he'd be a really lovely bloke in real life.

Newbabynewhouse · 23/12/2021 18:29

Ed sheeran... just seems so normal

Fuckedoffisanunderstatement · 23/12/2021 18:30

Stacey Solomon, she is a ray of sunshine and creates a happy feeling on her Instagram page.
