As we had a thread about rage-inducing celebrities, I thought it might be nice to have a Christmas thread about celebrities we like.

Mine include:
Mary Beard - just herself, focuses on the subject and doesn't care what men say about her
Ian Hislop - been making me laugh at whoever the current Government is for many years.
JK Rowling - not a huge Harry Potter fan, but such a courageous lady.
Emma Raducanu - a recent addition to this list obviously, but so down to earth. Hope she stays this way for her sake.
Johnny Vegas - very grounded, a normal working class man who made it big.
Anita Rani - seems lovely and again down to earth.

Keanu for previously mentioned reasons. Tom Holland, seems super lovely. Claudia Winkleman I think is probably really fun. George Clooney would give you the best night out of your life. Mackenzie Crook, just absolutely lovely.

Monica Galetti: so so impressive, takes no prisoners, is at the absolute top of her profession, well respected, scary but so warm and lovely underneath.

Joe Lycett: woke but irreverent.

Serena Williams: principled, glamorous, talent to burn.

Harry Styles. He's just lovely 😍

Hoolihan · 23/12/2021 21:35

Oh yes agree with Joe Lycett and both of the Sewing Bee judges too.

louderthan · 23/12/2021 21:36

Oh yes I love Patrick and Esme!

louderthan · 23/12/2021 21:36

Esme is so bloody cool.

FrankTurner · 23/12/2021 21:41

Two people already mentioned on here
Frank Turner - also had brilliant online & real life interactions with him. Lovely chap, spent lockdown doing free / donate what you can live streams to raise funds for various independent venues.
Richard Coles - so clever, warm & amusing. Just lovely
Another for me - Rosie Jones. I luffs her!

Like PPs I fell in love with Jamie Laing when he was on Strictly. So so enthusiastic and humble. His street dance is one of my favourite dances ever.

Nihaal Arthanayake: one of the most thoughtful, gently probing interviewers I've ever heard; so intuitive and sensitive.

TheCreamCaker · 23/12/2021 22:30

Michael Palin - quiet, unassuming and well-travelled

Ricky Gervais - passionate about animals and their welfare

Jay Blade of The Repair Shop - kind, friendly, decent man, despite the terrible childhood abuse he suffered

AdoptedBumpkin · 23/12/2021 23:07

I've neglected this thread tonight until now, but some lovely replies.

I agree with you about Jay Blade, @TheCreamCaker, he's so lovely with everyone, talking them through their stories.
In fact, isn't everyone delightful on The Repair Shop? So hardworking, thoughtful and kind. It's such a heartwarming programme!.

Sara Cox - listening to her radio show is like chicken soup for the soul
Ricky Gervais - hilarious, intelligent and compassionate about animals
Will Smith - such good fun
Dawn French - what's not to like
