I know this isn't the point of the thread but that's a pretty HUGE spoiler for someone who hasn't yet seen the programme (ie me!)

Honestly it's been all over the media for a couple of weeks now - how long after a program airs before people can discuss it just to make sure you have seen it?
Hospedia · 21/12/2021 19:11

Is it any secret that a character dies? It's been all over the news.

I don't think they knew per se, however there have been rumours and blind gossip items about him for years so while they might not have known it possibly wasn't a shock.

All the press stuff says he knew he was killed off and was fine with it as he only agreed to return if the story was going to be different.

If they knew anything surely they wouldn’t have used him at all. They could have just started the series at a funeral.

CorrBlimeyGG · 21/12/2021 19:24

It's a diplomatic/ written by PR person response. It was the only thing they could say, whatever their personal feelings.

Mooloolabababy · 21/12/2021 19:31

You need to get spoiler alert added to the title op, it's unfair on those who haven't watched it yet and btw, I had no idea about how the first episode ended until I watched it last week!

rookiemere · 21/12/2021 20:02

They would have been better to say nothing. They don't know what the truth is - or if they do then shouldn't have kept quiet all those years - so why do they have any right to comment on it ?

MaybeAMoaner · 21/12/2021 22:01

Please add a spoiler alert as you’ve just ruined it for me.
I was waiting for my day off to binge the series.

NorthSouthcatlady · 21/12/2021 22:02

That’s the vibe l got. Let’s be realistic women typically know if a men is dodgy or inappropriate. We do talk

ShirleyPhallus · 21/12/2021 22:04

The spoiler has literally been all over the news for the past few weeks, how does anyone still not know what it is?!

StucklnAChimneyCantGetOutOflt · 21/12/2021 22:09

Damned if they do, damned if they don't.
There was criticism of their silence on the matter.
It would have been tricky, Chris Noth for example has defended SJP in the press wrt barbs from Kim Catrall.
The party line, however, will be to Stand with the accusers/we believe you, even if it is trial by media. Chris Noth is cancelled, effective immediately (no longer in the Equaliser reboot).
They had to comment - especially as the show was a catalyst for the women coming forward. Not sure why the films weren't or why this didn't happen at the time of #MeToo. but Zoe Lister-Jones (loved her in Life in Pieces) had absolutely nothing to gain by coming forward to add her own experience to back the two women involved.
Also, given neither knew each other, their experiences shared similar M.O

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/12/2021 22:11

It's a good message.

3luckystars · 21/12/2021 22:17

They had to say that. They are not saying it is true, but they support them, and commend them on doing a difficult thing.
They had to do this, or the series would be dead in the water. Even if they are best friends with him in real life, that’s show business.

I am enjoying the series.

DaisyNGO · 21/12/2021 22:18

Exactly.

We are almost halfway through the series, if you haven't caught up by now the onus is probably on you to ensure you don't read anything that could be a spoiler
Majoritycustody · 21/12/2021 22:35

I thought him and sjp were close friends

PurpleDaisies · 21/12/2021 22:36

Big’s death has been everywhere.

I agree that he wouldn’t have been in it at all if they’d suspected something.

How have you managed to avoid all of the media stuff about it?? Do you live under a rock?

By avoiding spoilers?
PurpleDaisies · 21/12/2021 22:41

By avoiding spoilers?

So opening a thread obviously about AJLT wouldn’t be something they’d risk.

TheRigatonini · 21/12/2021 22:41

I first accidentally read about this (the death storyline) on a mumsnet thread a few days ago which contained the spoiler. I haven’t seen it anywhere else.

Takemedown · 21/12/2021 22:41

Pretty sad that people care more about spoilers than they do about what he's been accused of.

SickAndTiredAgain · 21/12/2021 22:45

@rookiemere

They’d have been heavily criticised for saying nothing. Which wouldn’t be fair, but it would happen.
CoffeeMuggins · 21/12/2021 22:53

@Borland

Longer than this Hmm Also, there's literally no need for anyone to post something like this without a "spoiler warning" in the title. It would have been super easy for OP and saved it for a lot of people.

Oh and a lot of people don't read the sun and dailymail. His fate sure as shit hasn't been posted on the more serious news sites with a massive spoiler headline.

Mooloolabababy · 21/12/2021 22:55

@PurpleDaisies

But it's not a thread about AJLT, it's a thread about how Chris Noth's co-stars reacted to accusations about rape by him. AJLT wasn't mentioned in the title, If it had have been, then spoilers may have been expected. Still should have spoiler alert mentioned in the title though.
