My Asda order is due today. Just had an email saying there is no Turkey, even though I ordered it a week ago.
I'm Fummming. 😤

Annoying but if you can get out and about I find a lot of supermarkets have fresh turkeys several days on the shelves before Xmas day.

RonniePickering · 20/12/2021 06:14

I'm going on the hunt tomorrow, so annoying though, I checked the order last night and there was no mention of the turkey being unavailable 😬

Have you an aldi nearby. They have lovely fresh turkey's

MrsDThomas · 20/12/2021 06:17

You can buy a frozen one. Absolutely no difference in taste, just in price.

Fresh ones will be aplenty in stores.

Stuffin · 20/12/2021 06:18

Mine gets collected on Wednesday as it gives me two days to source one if it gets cancelled.

Never had a problem with morrisons but when I went to collect one year the poor guy in front was told his venison joint hadn't arrived which I suspect would have been harder to find Sad

sleepyshiftworker · 20/12/2021 06:19

Very annoying oP but fear not there's tons in the shops. Merry Christmas x

RonniePickering · 20/12/2021 06:22

Aah Merry Christmas to you too ☺️
Yes we have an Aldi, Tesco and M&S, was just feeling very pleased with myself thinking I wouldn't have to be dashing out 😆

Unfortunately an online shop doesn't reserve the items for you, it's whether there are any on the shelves at the time of picking.

BooseysMom · 20/12/2021 06:51

We never bother ordering fresh anymore. As a pp says, the frozen ones are just as good. We have a medium and it's enough for us 3 with left overs for Boxing day. You just have to remember to take it out of the freezer in enough time to defrost.

NightColleague · 20/12/2021 07:11

Name changed here. I'm a night colleague for Asda. The fresh Turkeys came in on the 18th, put on the shelves the 19th (yesterday) there was loads on the shelves this morning & in the chiller ready for re stock. I would go down to your local Asda and have a look. They might not have the specific one you wanted but there will be something there for you.

I actually pre order my Turkey from M&S.

maggienolia · 20/12/2021 07:27

Long shot but if you're in the Herts/ Cambs area one of the local butchers is selling them half price as (sadly) his catering supply business has collapsed.

Spiderelf · 20/12/2021 07:30

Sorry for your misfortune OP, but I love these threads about Christmas Online Shopping disasters on MN.

She says smuggly after all her shopping arrived yesterday

RonniePickering · 20/12/2021 07:39

Ah nowhere near maggienolia sadly.
Totally mean and smuggy McSmuggerson there Spiderelf 😥😂

There are loads of turkeys on all the supermarkets. Get to the shops and all will be OK.

tara66 · 20/12/2021 07:42

My goose firm, Farmdrop, went into liquidation the day after they took payment and the day of delivery!

HelloDulling · 20/12/2021 07:45

I never order my meat at Christmas, just go and choose what I fancy from the shelves. I know it’s a pain if you didn’t plan to go out, but then you can see exactly what you are getting.

RonniePickering · 20/12/2021 07:48

Aww no Tara, that's ridiculous 😑 I'm going on a turkey hunt then, and I'll check the freezers too.
When I was making the order the header stated "order turkey by the 17th" so I foolishly believed one would be put aside (where though?!) 😂

Yes I should have known from last Christmas really, the Gammon joint they sent wouldn't have fed the Borrowers.

Lidl had loads yesterday near me - also a couple of geese. If you want a big one, there were loads of free range big turkeys. Think people are doubting their chances...

Plantsandpuddlesuits · 20/12/2021 08:28

Wouldn't have fed the borrowers Grin

Jayaywhynot · 20/12/2021 08:57

If all else fails get a frozen turkey crown, slap some bacon on top, looks lovely when served, dry af 😂

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 20/12/2021 09:09

Supermarket as soon as the doors open on the 23rd for a fresh one - that’s what I’ve always done when hosting.

@HelloDulling, that’s like the year I ordered a beef joint from M&S, supposed to serve 6-8. Their idea of portions must be a lot different from mine, that’s all I can say. It went in the freezer and I bought a bigger one.

Beautiful3 · 20/12/2021 09:30

I always get a frozen one now, and stick it in the freezer. They taste the same to us, as the fresh ones from the farm shop. If you can't find anything in the supermarket fridges, try the freezers.

mindutopia · 20/12/2021 11:56

You'll just need to have a hunt around. I had two go to three shops to finally find a frozen one a couple days ago. But there were plenty in the shop where I did finally find them.

Last year, however, couldn't find a single turkey. We ended up having to order a fresh goose for a ridiculous amount of £££ as I left it to the last minute and we panicked. It was nice, but definitely more than I would have wanted to spend.

SophieHatterPendragon · 20/12/2021 12:01

Absolutely loads of fresh and frozen turkeys in tesco today!

I went to go our Xmas shop as my online order was showing out of stock for everything I wanted (essentials like profiteroles) but I know our local tesco has loads. Now cancelled our online slot
