Board Games for Christmas

Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions for a board game to play on Christmas Day. We used to love Articulate, but there is not enough of us to play this year. We don't like things like monopoly or scrabble for Xmas...too serious! The requirements are:

  • suitable for only 2-3 players!
  • not to complicated (easy to understand the rules after a few drinks).
-Not too rude or cringey ??!
  • Laughter inducing.

Thank you 😊

Oh, and it will be all adults playing, no kids!

Not sure what age range you're looking for or if there's kids involved.

We love the sock game, such a simple idea but great fun.

We were also pleasantly surprised with headbandz and dobble.

Cross posted with my suggestions, headbandz is more aimed at kids but the sock game is defiantly good for adults only

Obama llama is fun

Ooh, thank you that's quite a few to look into.

Has anyone played Exploding Kittens....it seems to have some good reviews!

I've also heard good things about Azul but haven't played it myself 😊

Obamas llamas

Not a board game but we love kluster. It’s basically magnets and string but always ends up really high drama with lots of laughter

Corneliusmurphy · 19/12/2021 20:20

I see so many positive reviews for exploding kittens but when we tried it we went back to uno pretty quickly.
Uno or dobble would be my choice

WisestIsShe · 19/12/2021 20:21

MN seems to love exploding kittens but we found it boring, only played a couple of times before we sent it to the charity shop.

wevemadeitagain · 19/12/2021 20:21

We’re big articulate fans and also like Linkee.

Ilovemycatsomuch · 19/12/2021 20:25

@Corneliusmurphy @WisestIsShe interesting! Thank you! I will bare that in mind...would be so disappointed to end up with one game that was a let down!

@wevemadeitagain Linkee looks interesting! A 'shouty-out' game like Articulate is normally fun! I remember one Christmas playing Articulate, my SIL shouted STOP!!! so enthusiastically her chair tipped backwards and hit the floor with her still in it 😂!!

Virus (card game, easy to pick up the rules). You have to glbuild a healthy body, infect others, they can infect you. We got it last year - very apt! We've played it loads.

Exploding kittens we also got last year, it's been played twice, it's shit. We re-gifted it.

I'm late to the game and just recently played Cards Against Humanity and almost turned myself inside out laughing.

WisestIsShe · 19/12/2021 21:06

Linkee is great but you need more than 2-3 players. We play with 5, one to read the cards and two teams of two . Not sure if would work with fewer.

This Christmas Day it will be me, my 70yo mother, and teen DC. I've just bought us Ghost Castle because there's no chance of a Monopoly style tantrum or an Uno inspired rage Grin Also because I was SO jealous of my friends who had GC when I was a kid and my parents refused to buy it for me. Monopoly, Scrabble & Trivial Pursuit were 'fun' apparently.

IncyWincyGrownUp · 19/12/2021 22:48

I’ve bought the family version of CAH for us to play on Christmas Eve. Then when the younger ones are in bed we’ll crack open the normal version and the new booster box I have acquired to spice up the main deck.
