There does seem to be a new air of panic after Javid's appearance this morning.

I'm considering going to stock up on beer Christmassy bits earlier than originally planned. Is everyone doing the same?

Yes, I’m thinking about getting in an online order post Boxing Day.

AmIAGrinchx · 19/12/2021 14:31

No. Stop encouraging panic buying. FFS!!

Lightstoobright · 19/12/2021 14:35

Yes. There was no panic. Just people shopping normally.

pinkcattydude · 19/12/2021 14:39

Yes it was lovely I thought it would be horrendous. But it was calm and the till staff were waiting for people to come and pay. Painless experience

MonkeyPuddle · 19/12/2021 14:40

Been to Big Asda today. Just did my normal Christmas shop, not particularly busy, no queues at the tills.

DGRossetti · 19/12/2021 14:43

Did our final shop yesterday at Sainsburys. Not only was it quiet for Xmas, it was quiet for a Saturday. Same for the Morrisons we popped into on the way back.

Although the traffic on the roads did seem a little heavier than usual ?

GreenWheat · 19/12/2021 14:45

Why on earth would you do that? Even in the darkest first lockdown days supermarket's remained open. It was ridiculous panic buying that caused shortages last time, not supply chains.

PeaceONoeuf · 19/12/2021 14:46

Yup m and s was absolutely rammed with a slightly frantic air this morning. I bought jelly and booze.

amusedbush · 19/12/2021 14:46

I was at Tesco this morning and it was totally normal, no air of panic.

Yep ^^
WorraLiberty · 19/12/2021 14:48

It's 6 days before Christmas

Of course it was busy.

RaraRachael · 19/12/2021 14:50

I was in our local Asda this morning, It wasn't too busy but there were quite a lot of gaps in stock. Not sure if it's Covid related or pre Christmas.

They were open but the furloughed and wfh took everything. There was nothing left after work. May be adding to the problem but I don't want to be in that situation again.
sparklemagicsnow · 19/12/2021 14:54

It's fine. Busy but Christmas busy not idiots panic buying busy,

Morrisons have plenty of online delivery slots right up to about 8/9th January last time I looked (this morning)

There is no need to panic buy! There never was 🤦‍♀️

This.

Even if there is a circuit breaker/lockdown, essential shops will still be open.

(It's perhaps more of a worry if there wasn't any restrictions, because mass staff sickness would pose a problem - but that's why in the end, the government will have to act and a circuit breaker looks likely).

soundsystem · 19/12/2021 14:55

I've just come out of Aldi and it was an oddly calm experience! Quieter than you'd expect the Sunday before Christmas!

(Planned shop, not panic buying!)

No empty shelves, no-one fighting over loo roll or the last parsnip, most people wearing masks and behaving in a perfectly normal, civilised way. All good!

MorvaanReed · 19/12/2021 15:09

Christmas was delivered in a van (Tesco's) half an hour ago. We've done exactly what we always do. Big shop about now (The latest online shop date we could get) and I'm planing to buy cheese and the more perishable veg from the local farm shop Wednesday-ish. If we couldn't do that we'd be fine and could eat out of the Christmas/New Year and general freezer stocks we'll into January.

I hate food shopping at any time, more so at Christmas, so make it pain free as possible. My shopping plans have not been altered by Covid.

RoyTroyAndChris · 19/12/2021 15:09

Sainsbury's was definitely busier than usual but not as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Seemed to have more than its fair share of self-absorbed idiots who needed to leave their trollies diagonally across the aisles while they looked at the shelves though Hmm

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 19/12/2021 15:13

I'm not going anywhere near the shops. I'm on the exante diet and I'm not breaking it for Xmas on my own.
Got enough loo roll from normal shopping.

Thefuturestory · 19/12/2021 15:15

Went at 930am. Got all the Christmas party things we’ll need. This was planned. Nowt to do with any fear of announcements. Just a busy week and an important Christmas birthday.

Bunnyfuller · 19/12/2021 15:17

Yes, a third of people there without mask, many moaning about a possible lockdown, and ‘they can fuck off if they think we’re not having our party/swinger get together/satanic Christmas knees up.

I just practiced a lot of hard glares over my mask.

aliceca · 19/12/2021 15:17

It was busy, but it is the last weekend before Christmas Day. So of course it was busy. I think people are forgetting what it is like this time of year.

BoredZelda · 19/12/2021 15:19

There does seem to be a new air of panic after Javid's appearance this morning.

Have you been to the supermarket the weekend before Christmas in any other year? It has always been busy with trolleys piled high.

VienneseWhirligig · 19/12/2021 15:19

Only nipped in to buy loo roll and heat patches, but Tesco Extra was really quiet. No sign of panic buying.

HaveANiceFuckingDay · 19/12/2021 15:21

I went into town and it's no busier than a normal Sunday with free parking . It's always busier on Sunday because of this.
Went to M&S click and collect, one person in front of me and I only ordered the item yesterday so that was pretty good but the food hall was busy but the lanes moved fast didn't stand still waiting was more shuffling along it was quick

I went to the big Tesco on the way home walked straight up to a till which is rare , a weekday lunchtime I stand in a queue more often than not than a Sunday going straight up to one . it didnt seem anymore busier than a normal sunday before Christmas outside.
There were no gaps anywhere that I could see and not many people with large trolleys piled high either, mainly the smaller trollies
Panic buying didnt even come into my head and certainly didnt see anything like it going on.
I didnt check the loo roll aisle but I don't need loo roll.
