Anyone else hearing lots of birdsong/noise where you are? (In the middle of the night)

I was in a room at the front of my house and heard loads of birds chattering in a bush outside which I thought was odd.

Just gone to bed and there is so much bird chatter going on at the back of the house as well. Really unusual for this time of night. They usually only start when the sun comes up and aren't normally this loud.

Feeling slightly freaked out by it...

Confused I literally just said to my husband ‘what on earth are the birds doing making so much noise at 1am?’
No idea why, but it must be something (unless you’re my neighbour and we have odd birds Grin)

Eeeeeps · 19/12/2021 01:13

Yes! I’m so glad someone else has posted this. I started noticing this a couple of nights ago when I let the dog out about midnight and I’ve noticed it ever since / commented on it to my DM. The sky does seem light here but I agree it’s odd and unnerving…

Moolia · 19/12/2021 01:14

Eek. Feels a bit weird. Like an earthquake or something might happen.

I might have to poke my nose out the window to check Xmas Smile

It's almost the shortest day and dark early on, the poor sods have been asleep since 4-30pm.

TheCanyon · 19/12/2021 01:18

Our town is the arse end of nowhere, I'm currently out having a fag, not a pee p.

Thank feck the owls moved on...

TheVanguardSix · 19/12/2021 01:20

Not tonight but a couple of nights ago, I took the dog out for a late night turnaround and it was like the swallows were coming back to Capistrano! Very beautiful but all sorts of wrong to hear the sound of spring late on winter’s night.

OnAWinterMorningFarAway · 19/12/2021 01:24

I see a cold moon rising …

Hottubtimemachine · 19/12/2021 01:26

Yes! I noticed it the other night when I couldn’t sleep. Odd.

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 19/12/2021 01:30

Yes!! Me too. I remember thinking it was very strange.

DappyApple · 19/12/2021 01:30

I noticed this a couple of weeks ago and was getting woken up about 2 am for several nights in a row by one bird in particular loudly chirping away, Sounded like it was just outside my window!

But haven’t heard anything recently.

OtherPlans · 19/12/2021 01:34

It's full moon tonight. Maybe it's lighter (though foggy and dark here).

Lookingoutside · 19/12/2021 01:43

Yes! Since the end of the first lockdown.

crispsinasandwich · 19/12/2021 01:50

Yes here as well. I wondered it was because our street lights are so bright - perhaps confusing the birds. It's been going on for a few weeks.

KloppsTeeth · 19/12/2021 01:52

It’s robins singing away in the right round here. Also nightingales occasionally.
All the artificial lights from people’s all night Christmas lights must be playing havoc with their sense of timing.

TheCloudBotherer · 19/12/2021 01:55

Same here. Has been happening the last few nights. My mum (in a different part of the country) mentioned the same was happening there yesterday.

DramaAlpaca · 19/12/2021 02:21

Yes! I took the dog out for a last wee just before three yesterday morning and was surprised to hear the birds chirping away in the dark. I'm in Ireland so it's happening here too.

Dancingbea · 19/12/2021 02:26

Yes just woken up by them

EightWheelGirl · 19/12/2021 02:30

Always robins. I always assumed it was the artificial light, but googled it and read a recent study which suggested they do it because there's too much ambient noise during the day to hear each other/attract mates.

Roadhouse111 · 19/12/2021 02:34

Currently sitting bolt upright in my livingroom as I have hurt my back (no sleep for me!!), and all I can hear are birds chattering, so weird you posted this too!!

Roadhouse111 · 19/12/2021 02:35

I thought it might be robins, we have a few resident in our front bush

hesbeen2021 · 19/12/2021 05:38

Unable to sleep and so pleased to have read this thread as sitting out in the garden at 2am and the birds are tweeting away
Live in the middle of a city and thought wtf

DropYourSword · 19/12/2021 05:45

I have kookaburras early in the morning that sounds like laughing monkeys.
I also have bush stone-curlews that are less bird song and more bird shrieky-murder-death-screech.

user1467486752 · 19/12/2021 05:49

It's full moon. I got up at 1.00am to get a glass of water for ds and it looked like I'd left the outside light on it was so light outside

CrisisManagement · 19/12/2021 05:57

I'm in Australia and have noticed this too. I'm being woken by birds at 2 and 3am. How strange.
