Yeah - really not sure why folk are being so mean about adult stockings..
Surely it’s harmless

I’ve never had a stocking or done a stocking - it was never a thing in my family. All presents were from Santa, but I might start it now this year.

For kids, all Santa stuff in a stocking and any bigger presents are from us.
And what’s the harm in adult stockings for just some little necessities / token gifts for me and husband.. I don’t want to be going all out on bigger gifts at Christmas. That’s what birthdays are for (and husbands was yesterday)

CormoranStrike · 18/12/2021 05:37

I big tin of aftereights (fills most of his stocking), socks, a magazine, a satsuma, a new toothbrush.

Blossom64265 · 18/12/2021 05:40

We started doing adult stockings when DC asked us to add the adults.

DH is getting
A Christmas bauble Inspired by a video game he loves
water bottle
Bed socks
Some chocolates

I was also going to put in a book end that i mistakenly assumed would need assembly, but it did not so it got wrapped instead.

@Ariela

He isn't having a stocking. Never has. Stockings are only for small children who believe in Father Christmas.
Bah humbug
blackteaplease · 18/12/2021 06:53

We do adult stockings in this house but they are much smaller than the children's stockings.

This year DH has a pair of goatwool walking socks, choc orange, choc coins, face moisturiser, pouch of nice olives and a pack of salt and pepper cashews. All of these things will get used, no tat here

Mybalconyiscracking · 18/12/2021 06:55

Pork Scratchings and a chauffeur’s cap for when he runs DD and her friends into town on Saturday evening.

StoopitAutocarrot · 18/12/2021 07:13

I would love (and might do for myself...)

salty liquorice
nice socks
mini GnT
choc covered coffee beans
LED beanie
a book

Wtfdidwedo · 18/12/2021 07:24

Not understanding the stocking hate, unless people who hate them also never give any gifts to anyone. It's exactly the same as buying presents for a partner, it's just in a stocking instead. Some people just really love bringing a downer on everything don't they!

I find TK Maxx good for stuff like this as they always have random chocolate and small gifts.

We only have one DD (8). I feel it's a bit sad to just do a stocking for her - I want her to enjoy the shared experience, not just be ruthlessly ripping into her own stuff. I probably should have drawn the line at doing stockings for the dogs, but too late now... Grin

To answer the main question, here's what I've got so far, although need a bit more:

Chocolate orange bar
Shaving brush
Hemp hand cream
Chocolate Santa
New pen
Mini Christmas pudding
Socks

Will def. add satsuma and chocolate coins, and will go for a hunt in Waterstones today for a few fun bits.

@TallulahsCurse

Why would grown adults have stockings???
Why not?
Grumpyosaurus · 18/12/2021 07:40

I can't remember now what I put in DH's as I wrapped it a while ago, but he usually gets socks, chocolates, a miniature of booze, a small bottle of wine, some bits and pieces from the classy local deli, and anything else I think he'll like. So there's often a book in there, or something practical (he got an epic adjustable spanner one year, a bottle stopper another).

I don't get the bah humbug. Christmas is meant to be fun and we all open our stockings together. The (now adult) DC do one for me, and this year we'll be dropping one off for a friend who is going through a miserable divorce and could do with a bit of love and attention.

Thatsplentyjack · 18/12/2021 07:41

I've bought mine
Shorts
Jumpers
Samsung wireless ear buds
A funny tshirt but I think it might be too small.
A pen that has mini tools in it although that was a bit impulsive, and I oy bought it because it popped up on Amazon.
A long length charging cable
Still to get a bottle of vodka made from milk (because I really want to try it, and he oy drinks vodka 🤣) and sweets.

PeanutButtered · 18/12/2021 07:44

Kids get satsumas at the bottom of theirs, we get chocolate oranges at the bottom of ours!

M&S usually have little boxes of quiz questions that are fun, I think Sainsbury's do too. Oh and little tins of jokes on cards too.

Scratch cards or lucky dip lottery tickets are fun if it's not something the two of you usually do.

fantasmasgoria1 · 18/12/2021 07:45

In our house the only stocking is for the cat! We buy presents but no stockings!

anne2650 · 18/12/2021 07:47

Nope. I've enough to sort with the kids and everything else that falls on my shoulders at Christmas!

Thatsplentyjack · 18/12/2021 08:17

On second thoughts I'll probably take all his stuff back because he hasn't bothered his arse to order the one thing I asked for and now it won't be here on time. Not sure why I bother.
