Putting a stocking together for my DP and I've just realised it's all good so far!

Hit me with your awesome stocking fillers?

Sealskinz gloves & socks - cozy and waterproof, perfect for building snowmen and sledging (they really do stay dry).

Also chocolate, a book, a puzzle and some lego to make with DS.

MrsColon · 17/12/2021 19:18

As for why we do stockings - because our main gift to each other is always either a holiday, or an activity together. It's nice to open small, thoughtful things on Christmas Day - we do have a rule saying no plastic tat/frivolous crap that won't be used.

Therealjudgejudy · 17/12/2021 19:23

Multi purpose wallet tool
Socks
Headphones
Scratch cards
Big bag of Malteasers

chocolate coins
nice socks

UniBallEye · 17/12/2021 19:25

Oh a small set of starwars lego

UniBallEye · 17/12/2021 19:29

We do main presents for each other too but we receive very little from anyone else, a token shared gift from my parents and that's it so we spoil each other as much as we can.

He had a fairly crap childhood, and never had a stocking until he met me. He didn't have santa either and not for cultural / religious reasons his parents just never bothered at all. I have lovely childhood memories and convinced him to replicate mine for our dc and now he really gets it and loves it

Onehotmess · 17/12/2021 19:33

@Ariela

He isn't having a stocking. Never has. Stockings are only for small children who believe in Father Christmas.
Ok grinch!
Onehotmess · 17/12/2021 19:35

2 cans of craft beer
Chocolates
Socks
Slippers (although they won’t fit in the blinking stocking 🙈)
Book of jokes for the toilet
Soap

thistimelastweek · 17/12/2021 19:45

@TallulahsCurse

I don't do adult stockings either . Not for husbands nor grown-up children who , in better times, spend Christmas eve in the pub.

Call me grinch and smack my arse but nothing in the examples given spell 'fun' to me.

Imdreamingofapeacefulxmas · 17/12/2021 19:48

In not making him one..it's incredibly hard trying to buy him any gift at all! Let alone a stocking??

ParkheadParadise · 17/12/2021 19:53

A bottle of Glenmorangie.

In mine will be a bottle of Martell Brandy.
🥂🥂🥂

User2638483 · 17/12/2021 20:06

Fuck that, it’s bad enough having to organise the stockings for the kids!

AstroBunny · 17/12/2021 20:09

So according to this thread, an adult male Christmas stocking mainly consists of mundane tat stuff your DH would just buy himself anyway, or just crap that will be put in a drawer and not used. I have seen nothing exciting or 'fun' in any of the stocking lists posted here Xmas Confused

Yeah, I don't think this will become a thing in our house. It's all a bit naff. Stockings are a lovely concept....for children.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 17/12/2021 20:11

DH loves whiskey and I have some single malt whisky infused toothpicks for this stocking-not even sure if he likes toothpicks Xmas Grin

Cloverforever · 17/12/2021 20:13

He would like my legs to be in stockings. He's not getting it though Grin

Howmanysleepsnow · 17/12/2021 21:38

We don’t do them, but if we did….
Multi tool
Anton berg liqueur chocolates
Running socks
Sealskins gloves
Whisky dropper
Whisky cubes

greenlynx · 17/12/2021 21:50

Fancy socks, chocolates and big jar of hand cream.
For a moment I’ve thought about getting him a book of jokes for the toilet as someone’s suggested then I remembered that we’ve only got one bathroom and declined this idea.

EssexLioness · 17/12/2021 22:07

For those saying they don’t see the point in doing adult stockings/ they look boring etc, each to their own. However, for us personally, we don’t have family nearby to spend Christmas with and are wealthy enough to not need or want big presents from each other.
As a childless couple, spending Christmas alone, it is just nice to have a few little things to open on the day as we don’t get much else to open (one gift from my sister and maybe a few chocs from my MIL). It doesn’t do any harm to anyone and brings a smile to our faces. The items listed aren’t particularly exciting but everything is lovingly chosen knowing the other person will really appreciate it. It is our tradition. We are entitled to create our own traditions and enjoy the day in our own way, even if we don’t have kids or a large extended family. It seems mean to criticise our way of adding joy to our day. I appreciate it isn’t for everyone but We are all different and this works for us (and most other people on this thread).

Inmypjsagain · 17/12/2021 22:11

@EssexLioness hear hear!

Howmanysleepsnow · 17/12/2021 22:14

Oh, and shot in the dark quiz game is good (and I hate Quizzes!)

EssexLioness · 17/12/2021 22:19

@Inmypjsagain thank you! It’s just spiteful if you ask me… like only people with the perfect family set up or whatever are allowed to have fun at Christmas. We don’t all have fun int he same way, but I think everyone is entitled to find joy at Christmas, even if that looks boring or naff to other people. It’s not like we’re snorting cocaine and setting fire to cars, this is just simple, innocent fun that is harming no one. Some people are so bloody mean spirited.

LawnFever · 17/12/2021 22:19

@Ariela

He isn't having a stocking. Never has. Stockings are only for small children who believe in Father Christmas.
Bah humbug Xmas Grin

We do stockings with little pressies cos we set a low budget for Christmas and don’t go mad, it’s fun

EssexLioness · 17/12/2021 22:20

Oh and I usually put my decorations up in November too cos I love them, so shoot me now! 😆

Trinacham · 17/12/2021 22:21

@TallulahsCurse

Why would grown adults have stockings???
Why wouldn't they?

It is an easy way to give little practical gifts that they will make use of. And what better way to keep it all together than to put in a stocking..?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 17/12/2021 22:24

We've always done stockings for the whole family even from when I was a small child, so we've continued this tradition. My children are still young and believe in Santa, and Santa leaves everyone a stocking and gifts. The stockings are one of my favourite things. Mine and his are usually just filled with necessity type stuff or stuff we normally wouldn't buy ourselves.

My DH is getting:

Chocolates, scratch tickets, body shop help hand cream, socks, small thing of concentrated squash drink thing, a new car window ice scraper thing, gourmet flavoured popcorn, and I'm not sure what else yet.
