Is this infected?

I’m well aware that this looks like some monster from the deep but it’s actually a finger! Is this infected or just scraped and angry? I have had it about a week or so and it’s getting quite painful to touch. Don’t want to waste the GP’s time but is it worth a trip to the Chemists? Thank you. Hope it doesn’t give anyone nightmares!

Is it warm to touch?

ShowOfHands · 15/12/2021 20:14

Just go to the chemists! If it's not healing and becoming more painful, it might need some help to get there. They will tell you if you need a GP.

Looks sore!

PeriodHacker · 15/12/2021 20:14

Looks infected from the redness around it

What happened to it in the first place?

WineGetsMeThroughIt · 15/12/2021 20:15

Looks it. I had a mole removed last year and it got infected despite me cleaning it exactly as instructed by the GP. It become very infected and I needed antibiotics. Keep an eye on it. It will become quite painful if it is

Iamanicepersonreally · 15/12/2021 20:17

I'd go to a pharmacy and ask for advice

ShirleyPhallus · 15/12/2021 20:18

I have no idea why I clicked on those pics

Get thee to the chemist

Lemonmaiden · 15/12/2021 20:20

You definitely need that treated. Don't bother going to a pharmacy and don't soak it in salt water. Call your gp first thing tomorrow. If you have a nurse practioner see them over a GP.

QuestionOf · 15/12/2021 20:25

Thanks everyone. I was holding onto the dog’s lead and she pulled when she saw a cat and it got scrapped along the wall. It is a little warm to touch, more just painful! I should have put a warning in the title, sorry.

I would send a pic to GP as you may need Synoptics

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 15/12/2021 20:29

Antibiotics!!!!

QuestionOf · 15/12/2021 20:33

@OnceuponaRainbow18 was just googling what synoptics was 🤣 then I saw you corrected to antibiotics!

Theblacksheepandme · 15/12/2021 20:39

I would go to the Pharmacy first. Don't soak it in as hot as you can salty water. Keep it clean with an antiseptic wipe, take an anti-inflamatory to bring the inflammation down and it should help with pain. Definitely go to the Pharmacy though.

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 15/12/2021 20:41

@QuestionOf

Ha sorry I was marking synoptic exam papers 😂

Northernlurker · 15/12/2021 21:00

Yes you need medical advice ASAP. That's a nasty dirty injury, scraping on a wall. You do NOT want infection in that finger joint. First thing tomorrow seek help!

immersivereader · 15/12/2021 21:01

Ouch, looks sore. Yup, pharmacist

3luckystars · 15/12/2021 21:03

I would say yes. Bath it in salty water and see someone as soon as you can about it. Good luck.

OchonAgusOchonOh · 15/12/2021 21:07

Magnesium sulphate and a gauze bandage from the chemist.

Soak in hot salted water for about 5-10 minutes. Dry it. A dollop of magnesium sulphate on it. Cover with the gauze. Repeat at twice a day.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 15/12/2021 23:11

I'd say Keep it dry, rather than soak it
Pharmacist is a good idea

Try soaking it in hot (as hot as you can stand) salted water every few hours and see if that helps.

Warm water not as hot as you can stand.

Valhalla17 · 16/12/2021 00:01

I also found quite hot water with a capful of dettol helpful un the past op. I had an infected nail bed and it showed improvement really quickly. But yes get to the chemists!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 16/12/2021 00:04

Just bathe it in salt water and keep it dry.

Apologies I should have realised you meant warm and not as hot as you can stand. Perhaps you should have attached the info with your first piece of medical advice and it would have been more clear. I thought for a second OP was sitting down with her finger in a saucepan of boiling water bubbling away. Crikey she really would need A&E then.

I should also have brought out my crystal ball and head scarf in order to have known the later info was paediatric advice obviously.

Theblacksheepandme · 16/12/2021 00:36

user333334
Its spelling is paediatric. I didn't need glasses to spot that one.
