Sharing because I can’t share with DH…

Took me five years to get a diagnosis of inattentive type ADHD for my DS, now 12. He started medication just after October half term. I asked his teachers for feedback via the SENCO. As I can’t share with late DH, here are some of their comments:

"I was wondering what had happened to him! He has completed more work than he has done for the entire year. Absolutely brilliant. He really seemed to enjoy the lesson too which was really nice. Worked really hard"

"He only needs one instruction now and gets on with it. He is on time, and works for the whole lesson without drifting off"

"For me there is a significant and sustained improvement"

"He is completing much more work than he used to and is taking better care of his book"

"He makes good choices - if a pupil irritates him he asks to move away"

"More focused and productive"

It’s the start rather than the end of a road but I am so delighted. Widowed parenting is NOT easy but maybe I’m getting some things right after all Smile

Ah that's brilliant! DH would be incredibly proud, I'm sure.

It sounds like you're doing a fabulous job ❤️

@tunnocksreturns2019

Thank you! It’s the anniversary of DH’s death today so extra great to have good news today.
So sorry for your loss - but wonderful news about your son, I bet it must have been such a relief to get a diagnosis and be able to do something about it with such positive results.
LadyOfMisrule · 15/12/2021 17:36

Well done to both of you. You for battling the system to get the diagnosis; him for working so hard.

I’m now trying to think of a pun based around “amicat” but it’s been a long day.

Chattycatty · 15/12/2021 17:40

I'm hoping to get my son who is 11 started on medication for his inattentive adhd this is the kind of thing that gives me hope for his future.

I'm sure your dh would be overjoyed you're slaying it mamma

I persisted partly because of what I read on here. And part of the reason I posted was to give others hope too. Don’t give up! Flowers

@fussychica

I may have something in my eye. Well done to both of you.
Oh me too. Must be something in the air.

Bloody well done. Look at what you did OP. Bask in it! And imagine how proud DH would be at you both (and DD and the cat)!

Tuliptulip · 15/12/2021 18:22

Our DS has just been diagnosed with both types of ADHD, and we are trying to navigate the whole medicate or don’t medicate dilemma. It is so encouraging to me to hear such a success story so thank you for sharing (and there are two of us making this decision so I can see how impressive you are having to do it alone). Flowers

Unescorted · 15/12/2021 18:23

Well done to both of you.

mumjustmum · 15/12/2021 18:34

maddy68 · 15/12/2021 18:41

That brought tears to my eyes. My own son had a similar transformation. I'm so pleased for you all. He (as you know) will still have his challenges but it really does help

Good luck to you all and a very happy Christmas

Newforestdonkey · 15/12/2021 18:42

I’m sure your husband must be very proud of you both ❤️

CormoranStrike · 15/12/2021 18:44

Well done little Tunnock, and give your self a massive pay on the back mum.
