I’m so sorry about the white silkie hen. I hope you find a way to keep Ruth happy and safe. I’m also sorry that you are not feeling very well, Silkies - I hope you have more good days soon.

HelenaJustina · 26/01/2022 22:10

Sorry you are not more yourself silkie hope the recovery picks up pace a bit soon. And very sorry about Snowy, especially for your DS.

MissConductUS · 26/01/2022 23:53

I'm so sorry to hear about Snowy passing, Silkie. Losing pets is so hard, especially for the children. And I hope you start feeling better soon.

What a thing to happen, Silkies Sad
It sounds as if the medication is taking a toll on you. Rest as much as you can.

DD4 baked sugar cookies today. Only half the batch is left. DD3's first day of in-person classes went well despite the seriously cold weather we have right now.

Nydj · 27/01/2022 07:56

@Lemonsandlemonade

My mum deseeds pomegranates by hitting the bottom of them.

Can I ask @Nydj why/how are pomegranates consumed during Diwali?

DS was totally excused after swimming. I just hopes he sleeps.

Sorry, I missed this yesterday, @Lemonsandlemonade. One of the traditional dishes made for Diwali is srikhand and pomegranate seeds are sprinkled on top. Our New Year’s Day usually follows a couple of days later and and people visit each other to wish everyone happy new year. Guests are offered light snacks of nuts, pomegranate seeds and dry fruit. But my dad used to deseed so many pomegranates that we would eat small bowls of the seeds - yum! We tended to go for the sweet ones (usually from Spain that look paler and smaller than their tarter cousins which tend to be from Turkey and are redder and larger).
HildaTablet · 27/01/2022 11:39

So sorry about the loss of Snowy, Silkie. These things hit us so hard and you're especially vulnerable at the moment. Do look after yourself as much as possible.

All this talk of pomegranates takes me back to being very small and my lovely Mum buying them for me. I absolutely adored them and would eat a whole one easily by myself as a toddler. She used to cut them in half then sort of rip them open so the papery bits inside were exposed and you could get at the seeds. Good and messy for a small child!

Deathraystare · 27/01/2022 14:35

@Silkieschickens

Oh what sad news about Snowy. I hope Snowy and the Bunny get on.

Last night we were supposed to go out for a friends birthday. It was sort of loosely organised (i.e. NOT). We wondered whether to go to the Chinese near another friend or not. In the meantime, Birthday friend did not want to go (she has form). So three of us met up and decided to get a pizza from Sainsburys in the end. The host had some prosecco from Christmas so all three of us had a great time, telling stories, asking what we would buy if we won the lottery etc etc.

Sometimes you don't need to go all out to enjoy yourself!!

Our meat eater had a pepperoni (Pizza Express brand) and the host got a Sainsburys own Marguerita for us two and put some anchovies on top. Very nice!

Silkierabbit · 27/01/2022 18:16

Thanks everyone. Glad you had a good evening Death.

I think the one med makes me anaemic as I was paler than a white sheet, could not stay awake, lots of bruising from injections etc so I did not take that one last night, wont be popular with nurses but have done 5 out of 7 and all other meds and felt so much better without it and could stay awake and exercise for 30 mins and plan operation move Silkie. Been buying things for the move, DS is in agreement and wants the silkie with him now, just working through exactly what we need and action plan, want her in for at least the winter.

DD is horrified by the plan and says the silkie will fly away, they dont fly and she said it wont be sad alone but it will. Nervous about rabbit chicken integration, rabbit wants to be friends with everyone but tends to scare girl pets as he is very bouncy and tries to jump on them as he gets over excited. Chickens are supposed to accept any animal into their flock, apparently can sometimes include cats if the cat is gentle which rules out Silkiecat.

Silkierabbit · 27/01/2022 18:22

DH took car for its mot today and needs a new part so it is staying overnight but is covered by the warranty and he has a courtesy car in meanwhile. We have got some baby shampoo in for operation wash Silkie, never been attempted before but think best to wash her before moving inside and we do not know what other one died from, hope not something catching, suspect to do with weather that is why want other one in as well, at least for winter. Will see how she gets on inside. She is always the silkie that is difficult to catch and goes in neighbours gardens.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/01/2022 18:32

That sounds complicated. But the silkies I always fail to film do look as if they needed to be warm and dry. I was trying to find out more about them and I ended up here on an old website with pictures. I understand why you like them so much.
I still can't eat with sticks - due to a lymph problem my right had occasionally does stupid things and reacts slower. I blame it on that.

Lemonsandlemonade · 27/01/2022 20:56

Nydj Wow thanks for the information I love learning new things especially about other cultures. I never knew the difference between different pomegranates. That’s interesting as I prefer the sour ones.

Hope you’re feeling a bit better today Silkie.

DS had a play date He enjoyed it. Im shattered from work then play date.

Nydj · 27/01/2022 21:19

Ah but now I’m beginning to doubt myself Lemons and thinking that maybe Sikh and is only traditional in our family and not generally so for most Indians at Diwali.

HelenaJustina · 27/01/2022 22:22

It’s been a long day but it’s Friday tomorrow!

MissConductUS · 28/01/2022 00:13

Yes, and I'm taking Friday and Monday off with my last two days of annual leave carried over from last year. 😃

The only thing I'm not looking forward to is the major Nor'Easter in the forecast for Saturday.

OP posts:
mathanxiety · 28/01/2022 04:07

The local news showed detailed maps and projected path of the nor'easter, MissC. Yikes!
We are having lake effect snow here until 12 noon tomorrow. DD4 and I lifted up my windshield wipers because I don't want them freezing to the windshield like they did last time it snowed. It's impossible to predict how much snow we'll get because it sweeps in off the lake in random bands.

Champagneforeveryone · 28/01/2022 22:03

Good luck to all struggling with inclement weather and lonely chickens.

DS is going to the races tomorrow I am insanely jealous DH and I are going to the new town and will check out the local dog walks in preparation for the move Smile

Silkierabbit · 29/01/2022 00:30

Hope you have a lovely and well deserved 2 days off MissC

Managed 20 mins aerobics exercise again and no painkillers today so making progress. Sorting out Mondays emergency ehcp meeting, bit more on lawyers, persuaded DH to go to Edinburgh for few days at half term. DD is insisting she wont come as she hates holidays, it is rather cruel of us but now she is 16 she can stay home if she wants and saves us money and whining too. Wink

Silkierabbit · 29/01/2022 00:36

Also dh got car back from mot and new part fitted and there was more planning on operation move silkie. No one else sees the urgency of this but it is scheduled for tomorrow now if people do not push back again. Hopefully all the stuff will arrive then too.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2022 08:53

Yesterday evening I was out trying sushi with my DD, DB and his partner. DB and I met last in 2017. I had a lovely evening, found out that I can eat raw fish if unavoidable (I quite like minced raw pork). I was glad to see that the place was packed with mostly young (2G+) people. And I am only slightly hungover.

Silkie Good luck with operation 'chicken move', great that you feel better!
Miss enjoy your long weekend.
and to all in those wind swept areas - all the best.

IWanderedLonely · 29/01/2022 09:41

Sorry to hear about your silkie, Silkie hope the remaining one settles into the house nicely.
We had a lovely few days away. Inevitably I put on 4 lbsAngrySad. I think I am destined to be barrel shaped(menopause doesn't help).
I have no plans for today once I've been to my mum's. The weather is grey and very windy so may just have a lazy afternoon and ignore the bathroom cleaning

Silkierabbit · 29/01/2022 10:58

Glad you had a nice evening with your DB Prok

HelenaJustina · 29/01/2022 12:41

Sounds a great night out prok

Have had a busy but productive morning ferrying DC and seeing my Mum. Need to pick up housework threads this afternoon.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/01/2022 12:53

We have not gone to our new town, devoting ourselves instead to the pursuit of housework. We will go tomorrow instead so that DH can go to the new church.

DS is at the races, I've already received photos of him intently studying The Racing Post so he seems to be having a good time Wink

Silkierabbit · 29/01/2022 13:01

DH told me he was getting up early today to commence operation silkie. I was up all night thinking through Edinburgh options as DH wants the central ones for the price of out of town even though I will be paying and wont make a decision. I then slept until 11am and had to wake DH up. He is now clearing the garden incase Ruth goes on the loose as she normally does.

MissConductUS · 29/01/2022 13:08

Congrats on your night out, Prok, it sounds like you had a grand time. I have never been able to develop a taste for sushi. I don't like the texture.

Champagne, what kind of races has DS gone off to? Is the new church C of E or RC?

The blizzard has arrived and the birds are mobbing the feeder. If you look closely you will see that there are two on the perch ring, one on top and one on the garden fencing waiting to get on.
