Sorry for your family's loss Prok

Sorry no-one answered your thread Politics If it was your post about a leadership contest I have known one of the people you named for around 20 years though would not want to discuss that on a public forum.

Just had parents evening for DS, he is struggling a lot at school, such a shame as he got the highest exam results in school in primary but now only really doing maths. 3 years with no help did that.

And was very distressed today, have been since appointment, still no confirmed date for operation and still saying must go to all appointments alone and still ignoring my wishes on treatment. Though at least I could speak to people today. No idea what will happen, they sent police round today, not sure who sent them or maybe my neighbour could hear how distressed I was. Though its the news more than being alone but annoying as people are allowed in rest of hospital and that is full of people who look like they are on a day out. I presume they are not as bit of a strange place to go for a day out. Asked if they could do by video instead but saying no.

Oh silkie
Sometimes there seems to be absolutely no logic to the measurements.

Lemonsandlemonade · 13/01/2022 20:06

Aww Silkies sending you love and strength.

Measures - sorry. It is Duos fault. The owl examines me on miles and centimeters.

DS as filled out the form for choosing the topics for possible (if he is too good or too bad) additional oral exams in his 3 written subjects (bio, english and math). As usual he left it to the very last moment.

Nydj · 13/01/2022 21:03

Oh Silkies - it is possible that they have their reasons but it does all seem unnecessarily cruel now. I’m so sorry for all that you are going through.

Nydj · 13/01/2022 21:04

@Prokupatuscrakedatus, I did wonder about the piles of paper when you mentioned additional paperwork.

I’m sorry no one responded to your thread @Politics4me

sproutsandparsnips · 13/01/2022 21:25

Silkies so sorry for all you are going through Thanks
Lemons where is that photo?

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 13/01/2022 21:55

Just catching up. Sorry Silkies. It sounds like they are treating you as an illness, when in fact you are a person who is suffering from an illness, and you need to be treated as a person. Do you know what I mean? I think it's so important for the people in the medical system to remember that, but for all sorts of reasons they don't, and it's an awful experience when you're on the receiving end of it.

I'm not in the medical field so I don't know what the answer is, but I hope the people who are looking after you can manage to be more compassionate. I'm glad you have your friend who has reassured you that she will look after your children.

Not much happening in my life other than it being unbelievably cold.

Champagneforeveryone · 13/01/2022 23:53

In continued shittery, I have a new tax code.

The new tax code is as a result of a one off payment made by the agency I worked for before moving to my permanent position, and was for unpaid allowances that took over three years to chase up.

Payment was at the end of last year and totalled a little over £800. Now HMRC believe I have a second job and have worked out that I will earn £17k a year in it

Consequently I will need to pay a tax shortfall of nearly £900 by the end of the tax year, more than I actually got paid in the first place. I will get it back (though not entirely sure when that might be) For someone saving every penny under the sun for a house move it couldn't really come at a worse time Hmm

mathanxiety · 14/01/2022 04:31

Is it possible they hope some patients will just give up and stop bothering them, Silkies? It certainly sounds that way.

Prok sad to hear your news. RIP your mother in law. I hope your family is ok and can make her funeral arrangements as close to her wishes as possible.

HelenaJustina · 14/01/2022 06:39

silkie that sounds horrendously distressing. Is there anywhere you can reach out to for support? Any charities nationally or locally?

HildaTablet · 14/01/2022 10:24

I'm so sorry you're having such an awful time, Silkie. It is inhuman to treat people like this. Feel free to ignore me completely but would it be any help at all to ring something like the Macmillan helpline, purely to have someone to talk your (totally understandable) feelings and worries through with? Forgive me if you've already thought of this, which you probably have, or if it's not for you.

Prok, my sincere condolences to you and your family.

Thank you all for your kind words

Do you know the type of rain that isn't ? You go out into a kind of grey cloud and before you realize you are kind of soaked.

HelenaJustina · 14/01/2022 21:53

I know that exact rain prok when it doesn’t look like it’s raining but you are wet through in seconds.

MissConductUS · 14/01/2022 23:02

I'm really sorry to hear that you are receiving such rubbish care Silkie, especially when it seemed like you were making progress in getting everything scheduled.

Prok, please accept my condolences on the passing of your mother in law. I hope your husband is bearing up okay.

Champagne, it might be worth getting an accountant who does a lot of tax work to get it straightened out. It's madness to take a one-off payment and presume it's a second job.

DS's car went into the dealer for an oil change and multipoint inspection today. He and DH dropped it off last night. It's a good thing we took it in as the rear brakes needed new pads and rotors, which was a bit expensive. We're glad it's taken care of now as he's driving back to uni next Tuesday.

I had the x-ray taken of my lower back this morning. The doctor just rang me to review it. I have a fractured vertebra and moderate arthritis, both of which are bothering the sciatic nerve and causing pain in my leg. We're going to try a medication specifically for nerve pain and see if that helps. There's nothing to be done surgically.

I had no idea about the fracture. He asked me if I had been in a car accident or had a bad fall. No to both. I suspect it happened years ago when I was running.

Thanks all. I do at least have some dates through now and am really living the dream with my week - Saturday dentist 1.5 hours for 2 fillings (though is the lovely dentist who has Great Barrier Reef pictures on screen and lets you have any music you want), Mon video call with hospital nurse about lymphoedema for 30 mins (already have about 30 pages on this from them and know about it), Tuesday covid test at mass testing centre in car with note saying if I open the car door or step out of car I have broken my isolation for surgery Hmm (not sure how many people have caught covid from their car door and I intend to open it on coming home), isolation Tuesday to Thursday (same as everyday for me), then hospital for surgery on Friday in the smaller hospital I went to before which is an hour away, arrive for 7.30am. DH was 7.30am Shock we will need to leave at 6am. Though its slots there so should mean I am operated on in the morning and they probably put me first as I was exceptionally slow coming round from general anaesthetic. I did tell them that always happens beforehand, hopefully won't be as long this time as its a shorter operation just all the lymph nodes but hope it means not kicked out half comatosed. The smaller hospital is much nicer though and there is people with you all the time there and can chat to other patients, its like a small village hospital. DD has her interview for Kings Maths School the night before my operation. They said I will probably come home with a drain and think its the no washing thing again (which I will probably ignore again though if I have a drain in may be harder for me to wash my hair). Managed to finally get hold of DSs EHCP, only took the Council 6 months to give me a copy after taking 3 years to agree it.

I secretly sent cakes to DDs pastoral care team (DD hates me giving presents and thinks no teacher ever deserves them but these definitely do and the male one always offers to help me as well which is very sweet of him though he has enough to do with DD) but DD said one of them said thanks to her and DD was like Mummy did you send jammy biscuits. Hmm It was 2 boxes of cakes, biscuits, jam and fudge.

I also once had my main job categorised as a second job by HMRC. It was really bizarre as I was working in the city full time earning quite a lot but the HMRC clearly thought this was a bit of a hobby and had my first job as living off my bank account interest. Xmas Grin It was some years ago when banks paid interest and everyone at work thought it was very amusing. I just phoned HMRC and explained that no I didn't just live off bank account interest and work for fun, my job strangely enough was my main source of income. Though can take a while to get through to them. Think you can also go online and message them. Having said that when they take extra they do pay it back with interest. Also years ago they took extra and paid it back twice.

Hope the meds work MissC

Lemonsandlemonade · 15/01/2022 08:02

@MissConductUS hope the meds work. Sciatica is horrible.

@Silkieschickens lovely to send thank yous even if your DD isn’t so keen!

Trying to sort childcare for DS my MIL was having him but that’s not going to be an option.

Lemonsandlemonade · 15/01/2022 08:05

I should add my MIL was only having him once a week not all week. Some of the things she has said to DH have hurt me.

Nydj · 15/01/2022 09:40

Oh lemons how horrible and also stressful to have to sort out childcare at this stage.

Silkies good luck at the dentist today and all the other appointments this week. Good luck to your DD too for the maths interview this coming week. It looks like you have been able to avoid the evil nurse who makes people wait for urgent treatment - is that right?

I am about to go for a walk.

HelenaJustina · 15/01/2022 10:46

I’ve dropped DH at his Saturday volunteer role as I need his car today. Mine is kaput. Really kaput. The garage have booked it in for the end of the month but this is some time away and in the meantime we only have a car with 5 seats, there are 6 of us altogether.

I’ve also been for a run and dropped DC2 at ballet/tap. Ideally need to prep lunch and vacuum while house before picking her up at 12, this is unlikely to happen while I’m surfing here.

Silkieschickens · 15/01/2022 11:18

Thanks Nydj No that nurse is now my nurse and I cannot find a solution with them which I am well enough to do after the surgery as they are refusing all adjustments. But just have to focus now on getting through surgery and some people online also said if I am covered by equalities act which I am they legally have to make adjustments. I may be able to change hospitals, only other option is stop treatment which I will do if I cannot get a solution but is not ideal.

Silkieschickens · 15/01/2022 12:00

Trying to return 2 cardigans to Boden and poor DH has been to 2 post offices and both said no though just have a post office returns label. First one told him a second post office which he went to and second said DPD. Boden say not DPD and post office should have taken but are sending out Hermes return label and now we have to do Hermes return shop. Though they are giving us longer and first two cancelled orders they were brilliant with and refunded before they even got them though was amazed when they did that and not in a rush for a refund but these are about 3 sizes too big.

IWanderedLonely · 15/01/2022 12:20

I had a rare afternoon to myself yesterday so went for a lovely walk. Then we had takeaway- I tried tofu with vegetables and sauce. It was really nice e. I love trying new foods.

As for trying new food. I outed myself yesterday to the family chat - I have never eaten sushi . Now I have to, with my brother and partner to celebrate her birthday. I'll take DD along.

I have done kitchen, bathrooms and laundry. While DD made waffles, I made a list of plants to re-pot and seeds to sow.
